I’ve finally given in and bought a 1998 Xantia TD to replace the old BX although I will be using the BX for a while yet.
On reading the handbook I came across the bit about the “CODED card” with dire warnings about “extensive and costly repairs by the Citroen dealer network” if you loose it and the electronic immobiliser needs any maintenance.
Now if Citroen thinks its costly then I’m REALLY worried because there is no card with the car!!!!!
A couple of questions
– is/was the CODED card a feature of UK spec cars?
– What are the maintenance operations that need the hidden access code the card bears (all very mysterious). Particularly can the battery be disconnected without causing problems?
Regards

Don't worry about it mate, the card simply holds a "passcode" under the scratch off panel to allow access to the immobilser parameters on the dealership computer. Its only ever used when the immobiliser goes belly up or you need keys adding or deleting.
The code is held under the reg number on Citroen's latest computer system, so the card is not really required, so no panic if you've lost it (or never got it). You can remove the battery without any problems.
