French Car Forum

In responce to this post (FTAO Active 8 )

Sorry that its been a year in waiting, but when I took a trip down post memory lane I found the above topic and in my post I forgot to point out where you can get hold of the cars from

Here is the website for Saipa. They still make the Xantia:-

And here is IKIG. They still make the 405:-...

Can anyone shine some light. I have a 2000 2litre hdi 406. I understand that it cant run on SVO due to the weak pump at the tank but it must be possible to run a diesel veggie mix to thin it down. Has anyone tried and what ratio of mix works.

So did anyone go to the French Car Show?
I expected to see some BX's - a owners club or too but nothing 'classic' :?

quite interesting read

Taken from a site that I frequent quite often. I can just visualize the 309's coming down the line

Bet it would be ace to just have a wonder round , having said that it would be better if they were building cars at the time

All the best - Craig.

As some know here, it's a full time job keeping these bloody parasites off our forums.
Here's the nice things they do if given the chance:

I had an e-mail arrive last week advising me to click here to confirm my e-mail address with a mob my wife used to have internet business dealings with, the excuse was to update to your current e-mail...

I remember reading somewhere (quite possibly here, maybe the previous thread, but not checked it for a while now, so i don't remember) that it's easier to take a wheel of a hydraulic car?

Here is my plan (maybe someone mentioned it before too, but i've been fine-tuning it)...

1. Get clamped
2. Get in the car, start the engine, raise suspension...

dont you just love the net ;)

been away for a while....

if anyone has a series 2 xantia, I have convinced my friend to get one.. Diesel preferred..

John
(helps if you speak French, on the first one)!

My estates paint has seen better days, and is very dull.

Does anyone know of a good polish that will bring this up again? T-Cut is the traditional favourite, but was wondering if there were any good, modern polishes on the market for such a thing.

Still got the Xantia - all OK for now. Just got a Fiat Marea Weekend. Does anyone know of similar Fiat forum. Thanks

I don't know if you guys are aware of the existence of this, but it contains a lot of general technical info that is often quite interesting.
Being based 'downunder' it's more into test drives etc of Riceboxes and Yank Tanks, although you still get the occasional French car report, but still makes a good read and is a popular birthday/Christmas...

I'm just testing a new method of hosting pictures one here. I'm using my own Internet Information Server on the uplink side of my broadband. This is, I think, only running 256K so speed may be an issue.

Two images are hosted. One of 30k and the second, the Lucas pump, of 116K

Grateful if anyone could please comment on the speed. I'm...

not sure if this has been posted before but here are a few links to citroen

Here is a rarity, a hotted-up Activa...

I'm really not sure about that exhaust or the wheels to be honest but generally it looks worth a punt for someone..

I hope it goes to a good home. I think it deserves one.

Particularly for anyone from the Netherlands who possibly knew him, but this was posted on a forum this morning.

I just found this news on the GSA Yahoogroup:

Guys, I just received a message on the Dutch 2cv list.

I've found out that Lovekyn's of Kingston have closed. I bought my Saxo there and as part of the package was a lifetime of free MOTs. Does anybody have any ideas what will happen to this?

Also does anyone know why they closed? They were a really nice dealer and will be sadly missed.

Due to various financial difficulties, I am currently faced with the decision of whether or not to insure the car for another year or to pay for rent, bills and food for the next month or so.

If I leave the car without insurance for a month or two will I lose the no claims bonus that I have currently accrued?

Obviously I'm not going to drive...

Had a panic phone call from mum today saying the Xant was suck in the mud. There a little grassy area under a set of trees thats next to the drive.

I go over to find said Xantia well & truly stuck. I started to rock it back & forth with some low revs but she's been sat there a couple of days & its been raining hard. There is also a small hump...

Having contemplated getting a tow bar, I have seriously considered the swan neck detachable type so as not to spoil the looks of the car.

I also had a different make of car in the past, and that had the same type of tow bar. Which was kept in the boot and taken out when needed, with the wiring sockets also out of the way, I had the benefits of a...

Last night driving home after visiting friends I happened across a very tidy Renault Megane driving very slowly around a roundabout. On exiting it sped up and flew to the next roundabout and on entry it slowed right down and practically crawled around it, on exit again it flew off. This same set of events happened at two more roundabouts :? What...

Just out of curiousty.

They seem to be more time consuming to fix, a lot more messy/complicated to fix and are less reliable and you cant have a quick reasonable glance to see the condition of them.

So whats the reason why disc brakes were never used for the rear of cars, although they are now to a certain extent. Why wouldnt they use them, from...

Pre-MOT check of the ZX last night. It's only done 7k miles since the last MOT, and only 82k total - last year it needed NSF track rod end and bottom ball joint and NSR damper as the bush was shot. This year it needs NSF wishbone bushes (front and rear completely shot - not even an advisory on it last year), NSF wheel bearing* (plus new exhaust,...

I see PR.net has been replaced with a subscription only service at

Bit cheeky, pr.net was a great resource and the minimum payment now is 3 euros per hour!! :(

After 6 months of ownership I have got my Activa 99.9% sorted and I really love it.

Apart from its rather voracious fuel consumption it is a real gem and I'd hate to be without it. In fact I feel very priviledged to have been born at the right time and have the personal circumstances that allow me to have experienced this unique car. There was...

As most of you are aware it is now legal for us to use cooking oil in our cars* to power them and get that lovely frying pan smell (always a crowed puller)

So my question is this, what is the best veggie oil to use?
What price did you pay or do you know of a cheap oil / stockist that can be used?
What is your experience with it?
Did you have to...

I have a 7 month old baby and have a normal car seat for her that the seat belt links into runners on the top and also the diagnal of the seat belt goes around the back of the car seat through guides.
God bless Citroen that this seat fits the AX, Saxo, a Picasso and a Pug 306 and even a Vauxhall MPV.

However my dad's saftey first car, a Volvo...

Trying image insertion from other forum

How do you insert a textstring to display with the enlarged image, clicking on the thumbnail ?
Any advice appreciated

EDIT : can not be done as its the browser that is called as the picture viewer. Text must be inserted into the image beforehand.

Is it only me who thinks this is a very bad idea?

What happens when people have come to rely on it and it all goes wrong?

hi all. its nearlt that time of year again. anyone recomend a cheap car insurance firm.

many thanks

Cant really complain -

As you guys over there in UK have had it up to ...
For weeeeks, I know

But this time we have record-rain-bad weather in DK as well.
North of Sjælland right now the police have issued driving restrictions. Roads - even main roads - are flooded to such an extent that rescue companies cant keep up with drivers ending...

From June 30th, no more tax on SVO if you use less than 2500L a year!

Woohoo!

Now I have a dilema, keep the 2.1TD or keep the 1.9TD...

Apologies as its not car related but I need wisdomful people.

Me and the other half painted the hall/stairs with paint at the weekend, two coats and ontop of an existing paint. (Exactly the same as when we painted the chimney breast wall, except different choice in colour).

The finish has become really bad with little cracks all over and we have...

But don't get excited. It isn't for the C5. It's the Haynes Teenager Manual: Keep your Teenager in Perfect Running Order. Published by Haynes at £14. Obviously there's more money to be made from kids than cars.

Hi all.Been to Venice & Lake Garda in Italy for the last few weeks with our new caravan.2289 miles in all through France,Switerland,Gottard tunnel then into Italy.Averaged 30.9 mpg overall.Apart from a bit of clutch slip sometimes up hill in 5th gear,& a small spot of the temp gauge going off the clock,a very stress free a/con journey. The total...

It seems some of you guys are getting too much water in one place at one time at present. I hope you are all doing as well as you can and no major injury or damage has occurred to you or your families.

There are a few in eastern Victoria who are also rather wet at present too.

Chin up all of you.

im getting the polish and wax out for mine on ebay asap   \:D/

colin

Well it's certainly unusual  a postmark with an Xantia on it !

So, is this a way of off setting main (stealer) dealer costs, I.E. they write to you, and to afford to go into them, you sell their envelope on ebay although it will take many auctions to be able to get enough money to pay their high prices !

My understanding of the unlicenced PMR446 radios is that they have to have an incorporated antenna (ie non-removable) and transmit at no more than 0.5mW

Is there anyway to legally extend this via an amature radio license?
I'm goind to be using some Midland G7's which can be modded to run at 3W (which is useless if there's no way to do it legally,...

Dubbed, but you get the idea....

Looking at the Citroen website, the V6 petrol has vanished from the C5. Does anyone know if its going to be replaced? It is in the top band for tax so I can see why they got rid of it. Perhaps not enough were sold to allow further development?
I can see its still available on the C6.

After getting my car back from the garage, I noticed the bonnet did not shut properly and one side was not flush with the wing. I couldn't face going back to the garage to complain so left it a few days untill it bothered me enough to have a look. Found a screw driver down one side in the gap where it shuts. Shuts fine now.
Anyone else gained any...

In an IAM magazine earlier in the year I read the following article:

A government review of ways to cut costs by reducing red tape has suggested replacing the annual MOT test with one every two years. The move would bring the UK into line with other EU countries which require cars to be tested at four years and every two years from then on....

maybe i am missing something here but seen this on fleabay today
its more expensive than some of the cars

Hi,

Does anyone here know of or dealt with Paul Johnson of Citroen XM Centre? My car has apparently been extensively serviced by this guy, and I would like to track him to see if he has any knowledge of the history and work he's done on the car and of course maybe visit his place at some point, maybe he can give me a service/inspection of the...

Anyone had any experiance/knowlage/opinions?
I'm going a complete overhall of the 106's brakes in the next couple of weeks, changing everything (inc the springs/sliders!!) as I'll be completely draining the system I was originally going to replace the old stuff with some new 5.1, but now I see there is full silicone brake fluid.
Is it worth it? I...

O.K. :) Citroen got a mention on Fifth Gear tonight. 8)

Although they featured the history of Citroen by showing a variety of
cars on display in the Ace Cafe car park, including the DS, they just panned over them to reach another car.

They were only there as backgound detail, while they featured the C-Crosser.

So, if you missed it, &...

Just seen this on the BBC, thought people might find it vaguely interesting.

Check out this link:-

This guy has either got a very understanding other half, or more likely he's single ! :)

For some reason I cannot ever recall adverts being on TV for the Xantia in the mid-90s. I can vividly recall the Pug 405 adverts though and the music that went with them, Berlin singing Take My Breath Away remains one of my all-time favourite tracks.

Today Dad has been busy transferring some old treasured VHS tapes of his containing episodes of...

You've seen TAXI, now its LE BOULET .....
