Another new manual from Haynes.
But don't get excited. It isn't for the C5. It's the Haynes Teenager Manual: Keep your Teenager in Perfect Running Order. Published by Haynes at £14. Obviously there's more money to be made from kids than cars.

That has god to be worth a look
Especially us with teenagers
Mind you, we could write it. How big are the chapters on sulks, tantrums and backchat?
What advice do they offer for avoiding teenager induced financial ruin, getting them to bed at a reasonable hour and getting them up in the morning?
If I know the BoL, what you really want and need to know they'll gloss over or omit completely

on most modern cars how much can you really 'service'.....fault codes that need reading etc etc etc.... the days of crawling under your car to fix thiongs are fast disappearing (mores the pity)
im in my late 30's (very late 30's
) and from talking to people we seem to be the last generation with a shed full of odds and ends and an ability to fix things.....
apologies to any 'young uns' on here still fixing things but you seem to be the exception rather than the rule and that (i think) is a great shame

Talking about Chavs have you seen the advert for Seabrook crisps which features them, and take the mick out of them !philhoward wrote:"Section 7 - Exhaust system and how to fit a quad pipe big bore silencer that doesn't silence"
..or is that the "how to be a Chav" manual?

it was only a matter of time before someone at head office (don't ask me which head office, but at least one of them) decided that if they put fault codes on things in vehicles, they can make more money as people will have to pay at least something to find out what the hell it is.
Other wise it wouldn't even be a code, it would just tell you.
Personally i can see it coming to the point where your going to need a computer engineer to find out whats wrong with your car and not a mechanic

Former World F1 Champion (Sir) Jack Brabham a few years ago said that F1 was no longer a sport needing skill, but rather a bunch of engineers playing with their computers trying to see who's the smartest.TehAgent wrote:it was only a matter of time before someone at head office (don't ask me which head office, but at least one of them) decided that if they put fault codes on things in vehicles, they can make more money as people will have to pay at least something to find out what the hell it is.

Vaguely back on topic, I have a picture of a spoof Haynes Manual for a Vauxhall Chavalier.
Full marks I guess to Haynes for diversifying in this age of cars that don't encourage home repair. I note they're reprinting a lot of their old stuff for the classic car fraternity. I hope these are just straight reprints and not revamps to "Service and Repair" books.

.......Wheelbarrow Styleee !
Hi citrojim
Yes that is a very funny advert which certainly takes the mick out of those who deserve it.
What makes me laugh, is when you see two gigantic tailpipes on a car that obviously has a tiny engine, and they then make them stick out so far that they look like wheel barrow handles !
Phat styling
eh no, more like T**t styling !
Talking about "spanners" it sounds like an apt description for them.
