The forum performance seems to be somewhat improved.

You may be interested to see the server CPU loading graph for the last week, the flat portion at the end corresponds to the enabling of the page cache. A page cache would not have that dramatic effect with real uer traffic, but the bots tend to repeatedly ask for the same pages....

I'm taking my 1996 Renault Clio 1.2 MK1 to Brands Hatch circuit next week. I was wondering should i have my tyres changed before going, or should i bring those new tyres along with me and change them at the track when my current ones are completly destroyed?

The main problem is not the tread, but the sidewalls. Under hard cornering, the tyre tucks under the alloy. When my road tyres get down to the markers (Michelin PE2), I burn them off at the track. Watching Watchdog the other night they featured a problem with Astra's, apparently if you turn the lights on the horn does not work. :shock:

So, therfore if you have an Astra you can't get the horn at night! :wink: :wink:

Anyone heard of this situation before?

Esure have written to me (signed for) saying the underwriters are asking for a copy of my log book to prove the correct owner of my Xantia.

This has set off alarm bells as it's not something I've ever been asked before - why are they doubting?

What's worse is they're threatening to put me on a Decline list...

With the availablity of more affordable pattern parts, it must surely be possible to fully construct a complete brand new car. With probably the exception of the chassis, just about everything else can be sourced relatively simply from motor factors or specialist...

In the second photo there's a mauritius blue xantia which I could do with nabbing the O/S wing from, and if it's got front fog lights, it's bumper too!

OK, the suspension is stuck in Sports and she rides like a taxi over some bumps.

I had a brief look on Peugeot Serve Iceblocks and the sensors are just like Hydractive in type/placement - accelerator, pitch, steering angle, road speed, brake pressure. It even has an ECU with two plugs on the casing!

If i am insured on cars for the last 13 years, sometimes one policy, sometimes 2 and recently a multi-vehicle policy.. what happens about building NCB ?

would the seperate vehicles all get their own, or do I as a driver earn 1 Year maximum - for any insured year without a claim?...

Is it a common problem on an Xantia, to find the filler neck mounting bracket for the washer bottle broken where it mounts on the inner wing?

these guys ( built a monstor on a ROLLS ROYCE chassis a few years ago with a MERLIN lump in it, that was definatly spit and fire whilst running,

they showed it off at the last BEXHILL 100 but only ran the engine every time they collected i belive 75 quid for a local pet charity,

Sorry if in the wrong place,can't find a general section.

How do you upload an avater/small pic? It keeps saying not a .jpg (which it is!) or security error etc,when i'm sure it was fine before..

Hi All
Its getting to the stage of my 14year old sons education where he needs to make decisions on what he wants to do for gainfull employment in the not so distant future :) :)
He has for the last 18 months or so saying he wants to work with/on cars as he reckons it cant be that hard if an old git like me can muddle along and keep the Xantia on...

PSA 2.2 engine used in Mondeo?

am i right in thinking this engine is used in Mondeo 3 @140 'ish bhp & Mondeo 4 @ 170bhp?
if so, are the Particulate filter systems the same as Citroen's regeneration periods?

i'm just getting to the stage of maybe looking to swap the C5 estate for ..wait for it..
in no particular order...Mondeo ( pref '07 on ), X-type, Honda...

I bought a chinese lexia very reasonably priced and have spent the whole day trying to set it up on my vista pc.
I went with Jims idea of using virtual machine, but sadly after installing Xp and Lexia i have found it does not support USB!
Anyone have any ideas how to get usb support in virtual machine?

The 30 pin connector on both Lexia and its predecessor ELIT requires the removal of the relay situated next to the socket otherwise the connector cannot be pushed in far enough to make a connection.

Is that right :? ?

So it WAS a known issue and i needn't have removed the grey clip on mine?

Took a detour to Autos and Sons at Bottisham near Cambridge today.

A couple of new Xantias since my last visit.

The white mk2 is a 2.1 Exclusive, with black electric leather seats. The drivers seat has a bit of scuffing, but I think they would clean up OK, and he will take £60 for the set of seats if you remove them yourself.

My silver Xantia is just siting around while i get some money together to get her ready for the Nct (mot),thing is the tax is up in 2months but i dont want to pay €600 quid tax just to keep her siting around,so is there anyway i can stop the tax :?: ..I previously got a form but the only way the tax could be stopped was if the car was off the road...

Hi Dave

Some of the systems over in Old Ireland seem a bit strict compared to here. I had a 4.2 Diesel which I took over to Ireland when fishing. The local guys told me it was prohibitively expensive to have a car that size over there due to the tax.
