I don't have knowledge of the Peugeot, but the issue of a loose connection is known with several makes of car.
I doubt the piece of plastic holding the cable to the floor will cause an issue with the air bag light, but an intermittent loose connection in the plug and socket almost certainly will. Check for a good electrical connection within. Look...

We seem now to be at a point where the price of an unrusted 406 or Xantia in Australia, is less than the price of a UK car. It's mind-boggling. Trade buying price for a Xantia without registration (eg, tax) is $200 to $400.

Yet people want thousands still, for an equivalent age Corolla or Honda.

A large vice and an old socket set have usually worked for me. For the odd thing that has defeated me and need to be pressed I've just taken the assembly in question to my tamed garage. Bushes etc have usually been about a fiver a pop. Saves a lot of work, and the expense and storage of equipment I wouldn't otherwise use regularly.

Probably worth a punt, although they're somewhat limited really. It'll help point you in the right direction certainly.

I'm about to mash-up a couple of racks; have one with a cracked ear and one with a rubbish slide/ram but good housing.

Has anyone replaced the small nose support bearing pressed into the rack? It's got an INA branding on it but no part number I can see.

to some of you, this is probably not new or interesting at all lol! but whilst folding the seats down in the Xant to put the wife's bike in recently had a look at the Holes you see in the back of the seat base, I've Always assumed they were purely for the purpose of air flow when sat on, and never thought that they may have another use! For Years...

Older cars came with a small black knob in the dash. It was for women to pull out; thus it formed a convenient handbag tethering point.

Barely advertised in the UK, overpriced, not particularly quick, not particularly economical; no estate --- was it just meant for sale to some secret...

Just had a fantastic 3 weeks driving from Chicago to LA .... nearly 3300 miles... 174 quid in petrol :shock: the hire car was to be a Toyota Corolla but it was upgraded to a brand new Hyundai Sonata hybrid.

some eye opening stuff re lane discpline and speeding. Huge trucks doing 80 plus on both sides of you! 4 and 6 lanes all speeding and there...

In the middle of taking an XUD to bits and found this:

looks like the reconditioning was just a jet wash off and a coat of black paint,
if it had bin re/conned properly they would have machined/skimmed the top of the block.

I'm after anther block like on the end of the wires shown on the picture. So then there plug and play on the indicators from ph2 to ph3 then.

I have got side indicator plugs similar but there smaller with a 501 bulb. So I'm trying to find out where the bigger block name ones are?

Ah.

I don't think they have a specific name as such, it would come as pictured if you asked the dealer. Just a multiway plug.

There are variations (watch for PH3 vs PH2 changes as per my 106 issues ie very late models might have something else!) , it would be best to just cut plugs / sockets from the scrapyard if needed and a quick and tidy...

I'm rebuilding an XUD at the moment (although not due to any mechanical failure). When I got the car it had a 100k on the clock, and then I've done 45k on veg, with oil changes every 3k. I've had the Old Man round to inspect the internals and overall he was very impressed with the condition of the engine. Pattern part piston rings seem to be hit...

have been out battling the trusty fiat over the weekend fitting replacement struts and lower arms, and despite the part numbers all tallying up the arms ive put on appear to be a little longer than the originals,
So now am left with the wheels Quite toe'd out, i'm guessing that the arms are for the later wider more powerful version and...

well after an attempt i have given up purely based on not having the ability to move the lock nut on the track rod end! unsuprisingly done up Tight but with as much grunt as i could muster, it wasnt moving!
have measured up the arms and compared them to th eold which i assumed were longer but alas, they are not! and the mounts on the shock are...

Andy was wondering if its safe to use petrol pipe for diesel. Specifically the clear piping. ? :)

I'm aware a lot of pumps have a clear section already but I'm not really sure on standards.

Having (a long time ago) been sold fuel hose from a factor that melted a week later due to the petrol eating it, I tend to be a bit wary. Assume it was...

Usual stuff, one of the 'tags' decided to snap off and make a run for freedom while I was extending them :oops: as they compress over time. Used late model 106 RF plips are thin on the ground too and they are best in the Saxo 'stand alone' case as that seems stronger like this one. The factory 106 ones the rubbers are not replaceable on the later...

I prefer the rawness of the old 405T16, but all credit to Loeb for a job superbly done.

I'm on the fence with that one. I'm not sure. Ari's run was impressive of course, but the speeds are so much higher on Loeb's run. Peugeot believe that car would have done a similar time on gravel, and I see no reason to doubt it.

My favourite bit is at 6:55...

Forgive me all if this is blindingly obvious, I've never had to deal with this before as New Zealand drivers licenses do NOT include a street address on the photo license as UK ones do...and thus don't need to be replaced when changing address.

To change the address I'm supposed to fill in the section on the counterpart sheet and send both that...

Seems lately most manufacturers do not make small automatic cars in 3 door form.

They used to, I recall the ZXD auto, 205 1.6 auto, Saxo* / 106* auto (although these had a not very pleasant 3 speed electronic autobox from what I remember, they should of put the earlier 4 speed mechanical unit in there really as it was from the same generation ie...

Was up at a Citroen Indy yesterday with the Berlingo. This was there, being worked on..

I am in the process of fitting my Activa wheels to my recently acquired Xantia HDI, the car is rather shiny in Wicked red and I was wondering what colour the collective might think would suit the car best?
I find myself drawn towards Satin black or Gunmetal.
opinions please :)

Not black, very few wheels look good in black and at a glance they can just look like steel wheels without covers. Some kind of graphite grey would be nice I think.

Later TU 8v spring cambelt tensioners

I note later 8 valve TU units (I think 2007 onwards? Could be wrong on the year) have a spring or 'pointer' tensioner to ensure the belt is set accurately. A good idea and about time as the 16v units have had them for ages :-D

Question is, is the later tensioner fittable to the earlier TU units ? , looking as best as I can at a few pics it...

i find you almost have to shoe horn the belt onto a DW8 lump, and thats with the tensioner off as far as possible

Well, my little HP2510P finally bit the dust. I had got bored of having to put it's docking station in the car to use Lexia anyway. It has passed on..

So, being a nerd that I am, I decided it must be possible to use a VM within Windows 7 to run Lexia, to save the expense and hassle of getting another old XP machine.

So, I downloaded Virtualbox,...

OK, well, I've got it running and activated. I'm not 100% sure why it activated this time and not the last time.

The great thing about VMs is that you can just zap them and create another - so I did, installed Lexia, activated it and it works. I can see car, read the VIN and do a global scan for errors.

I was just thinking, dangerous I know. :oops:

I have heard (somewhere) that really modern engines do rely on their EGR system, unlike earlier ones where it was more an addon to please the emission people.

I'm aware the (Nitrogen?) content in the recycled gas will reduce combustion temperatures a bit too. What I heard was more or less turbo...

I will be looking to buy a new car for my wife (school runs and general running around town) in the spring (possibly sooner). We really like the C4 hatch back and in particular the 1.4 petrol engine - 4 door version.

Just wondering how reliable they are - I'd probably buy an 07 plate. They seem very good value for money - quite a few low milage...

Was picking up some spheres from GSF recently. The spheres had a fill date of 2010, which I know is not a problem, so as a joke I said 'I didn't realize you were selling used parts now how about some discount', the manager promptly gave me a loyalty card which entitles me to a 10% discount until December. I'm sure this is not just a branch thing...

Apparently dashboard cameras are required for car insurance in certain former USSR states, leading to a huge number of car dash accident videos compiled on youtube.... :twisted:

Put your picture of your homemade BBQ.

Here's mine.

Metal table, six or eight bricks, some mesh from the oven (don't tell mrs. N.!), plus a nifty iron grate.

Fill with coals etc and a few Morrisons burgers and lamb skewers.\

I was privileged today, to see a handmade replica of the Chapron Dee cabrios. Built from a sedan using pictures only, it included a rear tub of fibreglass and handmade brightwork.
