Apparently dashboard cameras are required for car insurance in certain former USSR states, leading to a huge number of car dash accident videos compiled on youtube....
Sometimes very scary, sometimes entertaining, always sobering and educational, it really is amazing the vast number of ways things can go wrong on the road, sometimes you're helpless and can't do anything to avoid trouble, sometimes people really have it coming to them due to terrible driving skills and complete absence of common sense.
It seems that running red lights is a major cause of accidents, as is driving too fast for the conditions, dangerous overtaking, not looking when turning or changing lanes etc... also I see a very strong lack of defensive driving skills in most of the accidents, of the "I see this person about to do something silly but I have right of way so I'm not going to slow down to avoid colliding with them". Many accidents the driver had plenty of time to react and did nothing, just ploughing into someone because they had right of way, even if the other person was coming at them on the wrong side of the road for several seconds!
Also a lot of extremely reckless driving and road rage it seems...
Its particularly sobering how just a small bump or error in driving can lead to a car going completely out of control and even flipping over in situations where you wouldn't think it was possible...
