I don't have knowledge of the Peugeot, but the issue of a loose connection is known with several makes of car.
I doubt the piece of plastic holding the cable to the floor will cause an issue with the air bag light, but an intermittent loose connection in the plug and socket almost certainly will. Check for a good electrical connection within. Look...

Hi Folks,

I picked up a scrap Activa this week to break.

Here are some pics.

Its a 1997 car with 165k miles on the clock. It is a non runner and went into a local Citroen specialist a couple of years ago with an engine management fault. When it was there he hit the nearside front with his loadall.

I'm keeping all the Activa specific hydraulic...

Ive found myself wondering what an activa is like to live with on a daily basis so would like your views, im not interested in economy, i couldnt care less if it does 5 gals to the mile what i want to know is are the hydraulics as bomb proof as any other hydractive citroen or are they fussy cars to run?

didnt poke it that much jim, didnt drive it either as driving a modded car in the middle of ryde with no tax is asking for trouble. Tbh i know its a project ( god knows when im going to find the time for it) but it starts and runs then it faulters and farts and the orange light of doom comes on then it smooths out and runs like a dream, not sure...

Having recently been getting a tad fed up of the way my Coupe handles, that old hairbrained scheme has surfaced......fitting the Activa setup to the Coupe.

Now, I know it would be a hell of a lot of work and very likely unfeasable but what would I need to take into account?

Hi Activa Owners,

I saw a post earlier in the year about perhaps organising a bulk buy of Activa Rams. Was there any outcome from this initiative?

My Activa has 270kkm on the clock and I have already had to put a copper tube on the leak return of the front RAM and the gaiter has several splits in it too. I suspect one of my RAMs is bypassing...

Figure in for customs & excise, import duty, VAT or your equivalent - if they are going overseas there is no VAT payable here BUT there are regulations concerning exported goods and it may have to go through a registered shipping agent to qualify.

Yes, a s2 v6 Activa and it's even got a sunroof!! :lol:

There's a couple of slight problems. First it's in Germany!
Located just outside Dresden.

Second it's had an underbonnet fire which has buggered up
the wiring and now it won't run (I know the feeling the
seller has myself only too well) ...so it's a bit of a challenge...

I ordered a full set of spheres (or at least the one's I'd not already replaced) from Pleiades, and they have given me normal non hydractive front corner spheres, I could tell because the damper hole is quite a lot larger than the spheres that came off the car.

Using non-hydractives on a hydractive car makes for a sublimely comfy ride but the payback is in the floppy damping. Some like it although I must cobfess I prefer tight damping.

A non-hydractive Xantia rides rather nicely on the right spheres and is in no way under-damped. About the only...

Does anybody know the part number for the rear ram bush and a diagram of citroen pr net?

I had it changed on my Activa when i first had it at 59,000 miles 4 years ago.

She is now on 114,500 miles and over the last 20,000 the rattle at the rear has been getting worse, and also the amount she is twitching at the rear, and cannot take the rattle...

How many on here run their Activa on the Super Unleaded? I have almost always used standard 95 Octain unleaded, and for years i have always got between 320 - 350 miles from a full tank of fuel.

Since using the super , either 97 or 99 octain i am always getting just over 400 miles from a full tank, at least i have with my last 4. With yesterdays...

Hi folks

Something I've noticed with my activa is that the nearside rear wheel is always quite limp when in the drive, even when I put the car in service high theres a good 4cm difference in the gap between the rear wheels and the rear arches, with the nearside being lower.

I had noticed that the nearside rear strut/shock was floppy as anything...

What you describe is pretty normal behavior during three-point-turns although this in normal circumstances causes a lean rather than the levelling out you have there.

I don't reckon it'll be rear arm bearings as they'd have to be very knackered to cause a big height...

No need of a lathe for the rear ram Kev and I reckon you may well be able to do the rear without removing it, which is a devil of a job. Have a look at Robert_E_Smart's last post in the Irish Activa thread where we discuss the possibility of doing the job without removing it. If you can it's a big bonus.

He had a ram coming for it but that was £400 and I decided that I'd get the car and if it needed shed loads of work I'd just sell it on and not lose as much on the brand new ram.

I've got an irritating squeak when I lift off the clutch lightly, sprayed everywhere around the clutch pedal - no better, looked under the engine bay while my dad pressed the clutch and it seems to be squeaking from the bulkhead there, presumably where the rod on the clutch pedal goes through. I've never taken any pictures of my Activa so thought I'd do it today whilst I was out with the camera.

It was in the workshop and it was dusk so had to do it with the lights on hence the orangeness.

Just wondering if any of you fellow Activa owners have noticed this or if it's just my driving.

Coming off a roundabout or turning into another road, and applying power quite firmly I seem to get the inside wheel spinning up.

What causes this or is it just me not feeding the power in progressively enough?

I'm sure I read that with the hydraulic suspension as the outside strut is compressed under turning forces, the inside strut is extended in compensation increasing road grip compared with a sprung car.
Is that correct?

Basically taking the front suspension of a hydraulic citroen, push down on one side and the other extends as fluid is expelled...

First of all excuse my language, as it is not my native one.
A month ago I bought a Xantia Activa MK2 2.0l turbo.
2 days ago I received a clone of lexia3 from HK and I installed the v45 software.
And now the problems that I have with the car.

1. The suspension is always working in the hard mode. The switch is not seem to work at all...

ECU Controlled 1.9TDs were supposed to pull in the fast idle solenoid when the AC was engaged. Dunno about the 2.1 though!

Ahh, that's a clever idea. I know on my 306 the fast idle solenoid is acted on by a thermostat style thing on the thermostat housing.

If I do it I would be fitting a bosch pump so it would hopefully pull as well as XM...

Having problems with Jennies activa & after some advice.

There is a puddle of lhm on the rear offside after the car has been turned off. The leak is dripping off the strut/subframe area..

It looked like the strut was leaking & i changed it for a good 2nd hand unit last weekend which seemed to cure it! anyway it seems to be leaking worse than...

The black pipe is either split where it goes through the subframe or the leak is running off the subframe & finding its way out the hole. The subframe will need to be dropped to diagnose, access is shocking with all the activa stuff :(

Don't we know it!

Removal of the spare wheel carrier makes a lot more room in there.

Hi ken,

I have looked on laser and the part number you have quoted (1180E8) is not the valve you have broken. It is the larger PCV valve that sits up by the air box trunking.

The little PCV valve you have broken is not available as a spare part on its own. It comes complete with hoses under part No. 1192R3.

Hello Activa-istas

I've had the clutch done by a local garage and been advised it will need a new clutch slave cylinder soon.

The clutch pedal is not as stiff as it should be.

On phoning a Citroen Main Dealer couldn't locate the part.

Am I missing something?I assume Activas do have these cylinders?

Your advice welcome as always.

If the clutch hydraulic system has lost its fluid, it can be refilled but it is tedious and you need to be careful of damaging the seals in the slave cylinder if the pin has been ejected.

If it is an early car, 1995(?), the system is no longer available from Citroen, nor is the Peugeot equivalent as fitted to the 406, so I have been told by one...

Hi Activa nuts..

Ive had a call from a local Activa owner, he has seriously blown his turbo.. and so asked if I can supply and fit a replacement blower..

Ive dont this job in the XM, anyone know if its any easyer or harder to in the xantia, would I better removing the engine and box to do it..

Shes a 1996 N reg model..

Well yesterday on the way to taking my fine lady(wife not activa!) the activa decided it had been playing happy for too long with the new HP pipe and decided it was due its time to leak again but in a big way!

Last time it was at the pump end it leaked but this time it was at the PR block end it decided to go :(

Does anyone know who manufactures the Activa rams?

I'm wondering about trying to find out who the manufacturer for Citroen is and trying to get in touch with them directly.

The other thing I wondered is if Citroen fancy doing a deal for a bulk buy on the rams and therefore making them more affordable to Activa owners.

Just be aware that even the tiniest scratch is game over for the pushrod - the internal fluid is that pressurised it will leak from there on, and rapidly get worse. Maybe wrap it with gaffer tape first, then use the vee blocks.

Activa rear end softness

Last night while doing a quick check over the car when i got home and fixing a leakign coolant hose i checked the softness of the rear as it has felt a little stiff lately.

haviong a towball this makes thigns easier as with the engine running i can just stand on the towhitch. Anyway doing this the car only sags about 1-2 .

What's that cable that comes across the camera? It goes into the brake caliper but I'm not sure what it is?

Whatever it is seems to be rediculously taught when the suspension is on service low, to the point where I'm surprised it's not snapped! Is this normal?!

The handbrake is certainly very powerful so I don't think handbrake strength will be an issue to be honest. And they don't bind once released. It's just how far up the handbrake comes that could be a problem in their eyes.

I'm considering a set of full electric/heated seats from an s2 exclusive hdi to fit in my s2 activa.

There is a fairly big yellow connector under my passenger seat (which is not electric (I think) but I'm not certain), and a lone yellow connector under the little cubby hole infront of the gear stick. Am I right in assuming the wiring...

The other connector you refer to, is likely for electric motors in the seats.

Heating I believe uses a differed dash/console harness on the Xantia II - rather than a plug-in extension. Shouldn't be too hard to splice in, though.

Personally, I'd like cooled seats! :lol:

Just wondered if anyone knew where the above car might be hiding?

My dad bought it from Citroen Manchester when it was a few months old with 1023 miles on the clock.

He sold it in 2003 when around 75k on it.

According to the DVLA the car is currently on SORN.
