Breaking - Activa

Unread post by robert_e_smart »

Hi Folks,

I picked up a scrap Activa this week to break.

Here are some pics. http://athena.cx/main.php?g2_itemId=3500

Its a 1997 car with 165k miles on the clock. It is a non runner and went into a local Citroen specialist a couple of years ago with an engine management fault. When it was there he hit the nearside front with his loadall.

I'm keeping all the Activa specific hydraulic components and the alloys. On the off chance that there is anything left on the car that may be of interest to you, please let me know.

Regards

Goddammit, I'd love the engine!!

I can't see that being practical mind but would still try to work a way of getting
hold of the bonnet and most important of all the grille!! Shame about the car
being scrapped mind as there doesn't appear that much wrong with it.

What's the rad like? And that detachable towbar looks handy! Like Dean,
give me a chance to formulate thoughts before the car is scrapped!

Hi Dean,

I thought you might have been after some bits to de-bling your interior a bit.

Theres no real panic, the car won't be going away for a short time yet.

Turbo, no idea what its like. The engine hasn't been running in at least 2 years. I stuck a battery in it to test what all was working, and I got the red and green light on the immobilser keypad. The car turns over but thats it.

Hi Andrew,

The lacquer is starting to lift off the bonnet and grille where there have been stone chips. I don't know if it has been repainted in the past or not. I would need to wash it and check it out for other scratches etc. But you might be better getting one you have painted than wanting this one.

I have no plans for keeping the engine, I was going to lift the head off and keep it rather than scrap the whole lot. But if you want the whole lot thats Ok, you can work something out with Dean over the turbo if needs be.

The radiator looks ok on the surface, although the water in it was quite rusty, and didn't smell like there was any real strength of coolant in it. It may not be the best.

I'm planning on going to the CXM rally, but I'll be flying over.

There is a 1.9TD engine here for Paul as well, if you both came over in a XM or Xantia estate you could lift them both. The ferries should be cheaper from September as well. I'm less than 2 hours from Dublin Port as well.

Let me know what you want to do, and we can sort something out.

Regards

Sounds more like the ECU has just been locked out after incorrect code
has been entered. A way to try and get the car running would be to plug the
ECU from your silver one in and try it with the code on that - the s1's don't
have all the body computer nonsense locking you out of the damned car in
such a big way as the s2's in my Xantia experiences. Shame as it's a
sunroof car too... :?

I've got bad lacquer peeling on the grille and bonnet of my red one so if
you're talking about pimples and stonechips they'd still be significantly
better than what I have which would make the car far better and almost
perfect - maybe not to CitroJim red Xant standards but hey...

I'll need to have a critical look at the bodywork on mine to see if swapping
a similarly age patinad panel will improve things (obviously excluding the
nearside panels, offside wing and distressed bumper). I seem to recall my
car's spoiler and one door capping strip losing chunks of lacquer on mine.

The engine is something I know I need to sort as an Activa I have appears
to have internal issues so I'd rather plug a complete swap in although I
have all the ancillaries so am just after the bare block/head. I guess I do
need to catch up with Paul to see if he's still got that spare engine going
spare. Maybe I can organise something with Dean if he's after big bits that
won't post easily? I guess you're keeping the strut tops if Dean is looking
for better one's on his?

Don't worry about the rad then as it sounds like the one I have in one of
mine that I'm not sure I can trust either.

Whatever you do, do keep the interior as they're the best Xantia seats,
the instruments are VSX/Activa specific.

Would be easier to drop the rear subframe complete if you have storage.

Robert - one more thing I'll need for my father's 2.0i Xant is the fuel pump!
What connections do you see on the multiplug on the top and the fastenings
for the feed pipes? Any chance of a piccy of the top before you tackle removal?

The engine is now out of the car.

Dean,

The turbo appears to be fine, the vane turns freely, no resistance. The wastegate mechanism is also free moving.

Andrew,

You'll have to give me more clues to find the fuel pump.

I'll clean the bonnet later, and get some pictures for you as well.

I'm not keeping the seats, I don't have the space at the moment, I'm on the limits as it is.

I plan on dropping the subframes, its the easiest way of storing everything that is attached to them.

Crumbs you don't hang around; in a hurry for something!? Little point trying
another ECU out to get the engine fired up then? Finished off the CX, the
Xantia and the silver Xm then? You'll have to come over to my barn to offer
assistance then if you operate that quickly!? ;)

The fuel pump lives in the tank and is accessed through a porthole in the rear
footwell under the folded forward squab. There's a black round cover under the
carpet edge and then once access to the connections on the head are unclipped,
there's a large collar ring that unthreads off like a big nut - you can do this by
getting purchase on the lugs around the ring's circumference with a large rod
or screwdriver - if it's tight you may take the lugs off the locking collar.

Shame about chucking the seats as they're easily the best in any Xantia.

Thanks Robert, how do we stand with the turbo Andrew? do you want it with the engine complete? if not i will pm you later Robert.
I would like to rebuild my turbo but i want this car back on the road as soon as i can and a complete working unit is going to be the quickest option really leaving my other one free for modifying, i can play around with it like that when the car isnt pretending to be a big xantia shaped paperweight.

Go for it!

I'm not after anything more than a bare engine as the car that would receive
it has everything there already in what I believe to be GWO. In truth I really
don't know how practical it'd be getting it from Robert to me here in South
Wales without being silly expensive to the level I just go out and buy another
Xantia/Xm and pull their engine. :(

A turbo is something that'd fit in a 18" square box and get parcel2go to zap
over for 8 quid - not something I can do with an engine. I've been googling
couriers to try and get an answer about a bonnet with zip results so far -
they'll all "get back to me".

Whilst removing the engine did the hydraulic clutch survive in working order
and is that something that'd be going spare? This is the one thing that
seriously hampers my enthusiasm to sort out an engine swap for another
Activa I already DO have a spare engine for.
