Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

chaps, sorry this is away from French cars .. i am desperate

took camper 100 miles last night beginning of holiday, had an electronic fault.. supect the coil.. in testing that side of things out, i noticed the oil light then didn't extiguish. I removed the pressure sender and started her up.. there was no oil coming out at all..

Just a quick bit of info for you.

If your satnav was / is a bit screwey this morning, we're in the middle of a large solar flare geomagnetic storm from the sun, another one is potentially heading this way, which would be interfering with transmissions from/between the satellites and your GPS.

Okay, I've had the Xantia for a couple of months now so it's time to find a name. SWMBO keeps calling it Vera on account of the registration being OKV - as in Jack Duckworth's famous cry of Okay Vera . Personally, I think it's a male car but I need some inspiration for an alternative name.

if you put an aeroplane on a free moving conveyor belt (which happened to be the length of a runway), and pushed the thrust to max, would the plane lift?

I would say that the wheels, conveyor, etc are nothing to do with it! How about a seaplane, with no wheels?

The movement is the reaction from the engine thrust against the engine; otherwise rockets would not work in space. The only issue with the wheels is drag; if we slow them down enough, insufficient airspeed will be reached - typically...

Yes I know ,shoot me but a friend has just picked up a 740 2.0litre auto 1990 at auction . its a one owner , millions spent on the maintenence over the years but it keeps cutting out and will only start if jumped with 24 volts. any help gratefully received. regards john.

National tyres have an offer on for december.oil and filter change from £15 to £25 depending on car i've just had my c5 done with duckhams semi synthetic 10-40 qxl and filter for £20 all in.Not worth getting under the car for that price.

After doing an oil change on the Xantia and 205GTi this morning I tend to agree that it's not worth getting under the car for 8) A mite chilly :twisted:

I was in Costco the other day and picked up 20 litres of Chevron 15W/40 trade oil for just over £20. I seems cheap but it claims to be SJ/CF rated so I guess it's OK...

chaps, I am needing to modify an airbox made for my camper by a friend, due to me fitting twin carbs. The van is mid-engined (almost :) ) so there is major restriction on room..

Are there any basic rules of thumb, concerning airbox size (litres) and minimum extents (this box is very shallow, although reasonably long and deep. i.e. its about 18...

I seem to be having a problem with our email(outlook).I have what i think to be a large spam,which is clogging it up.Now,after 4 days i have 35 emails trying to be recieved!Mostly all spam i expect.The oringinal email was about 4 kb.All mails are now 5.6 kb`s.

What's that all about then? I got the a/c and heater controls sorted, but it claims the car (Honda) has climate control? How does it work and what does it do? Anyone know? Does it stop the rain and make the sun come out then? :lol: :D If it does I want to know how to get it working!!.. :lol:

Thanks Kowalski :) In that case my car hasn't got it!

No auto choice, just the usual radial heater controls for hot - cold.. and fan speeds, with an on-off button for the a/c.. :)

It has got cruise control, but I dont use it much, kind of spooky when it's working.. :shock: lol.. I only use it in those camera controlled 'ave mph' sections when...

Hi All..

some weeks ago I began the large job of respraying my camper van. I managed to get about 6 coats on, in reasonble weather. The first 3 coats were not good, the thinners wasn't high gloss, and I think the paint was drying before it got to the van...
anyway, to cut a long story short, getting the paint to look remotely good is proving...

Doesn't sound too bad then. Just check each panel one at a time. If you have no paint left be very careful sanding. You don't want to go through to underneath. If it still needs w/d I would definitely be using 800 MINIMUM now. Preferably 1000 and if necessary finish with 1200.

Don't be too fussy now with odd scratches if they are small. You won't...

Hi everyone, I found this forum courtesey of BXbodger who posts on the popularclassics.net forum. I had a browse through some of the topics and this looks like a forum I'd like to be part of.

Lidl have some tools coming in on special on Monday.

In particular they have a small socket set for £9.99, judging by the pictures the quality looks very like the 1/4 set I have, this is the really big bargain. £9.99 for the set

Ring spanners with an offset on them, its this type of spanner use for the difficult glowplug on XUDs £1.99 for...

I have one of their digital micrometers- it was around £7 from Lidl, the identical one being knocked out by Sealey and Machine Mart for £40....and I do mean exactly the same product in the same box.

5th gear tested cars over speed humps inc a porsch cayanne(?) and a xantia came out tops. Didnt show the struts coming through the top though(discuss?)

While bowsing in WHSmith today I noticed that we don't have a magazine dedicated to french cars. There's Fast Ford, Total Vauxahll & alike but nothing for us frenchies.

While in WH Smith recently, I also noticed the Peformance GTi French Cars magazine, but did not have time to post about it at the time. I had a look at it, and noticed it had changed it's name from Performance GTi.

I think they featured Vee Dubs before, there used to be a lot about Golfs, now they have changed the magazine to focus on French...

Ok, so we collect a P-reg car ( make and model shall remain nameless ) last night, and have a 100 mile return trip.

Said car is a 1.8 diesel ( non turbo ).

90% of the journey back was tootling along about 60 - 70mph, and for the last couple of miles on the motorway, I did an italian tune-up at around 90 for 2-3 miles.

I had problems with my ZX when I first got it, it was sooo s l o w !! mums pushing prams were passing me on hills :oops:

Took the exhuast back box off and it weighed a ton! It was full of what looked like black pitch! Replaced the back box and it was like having two more pistons! The car has been fine ever since. :)

Hi all, although I am only a general fan of rallying, friends of mine take it much more seriously...

Where is it covered, in respect of TV channels? We seem to have a pretty poor late night coverage here on ITV.. is there decent coverage on SKY / Eurosport?

Same thing happened with World Superbikes, it got shuffled off to late night channel 4 -...

I took the word (name) 'Avantage' off the back of my car and replaced it with the word 'AUTO' in 1-1/2 inch crome letters!! :shock: :D

Whilst trundling down the M25 by Heathrow yesterday, I say a very nice D reg CX25 Gti Turbo in a pale metallic blue on one of the inside lanes. I managed to get a closer look and it seemd to be in superb condition, especially for its year.
Even today the CX doesn't really look dated. Nice :D

I have sold my Xantia Activa and replaced it with another french car, plastic bodied, 3 seater mid-engined coupe.

It has a Peugeot engine and Citroen gearbox.

Anyone want to hazard a guess at what it is?

Just remember NOT to pop your lights up at speed on a windy day!

I had a Mazda 323f 18i 16v EX and it went so light on the front end under those conditions keeping it on the road was near nigh impossible!! :shock:

I sold the car for that very reason.. :(

Well,after puting my car on Ebay late Fri,its now sold :cry: :D .Sold it to a nice man who lives around the corner from me.Contacted me through Ebay,came to have a look this morning & settled on £475 which i thought wasnt to bad.

My bro in law has a 3 yr old Rover 75 1.8T.I serviced it 5 weeks ago for him,& had to put 3 lts of water in it!Told him all about head gasket probs on this engine.Lo n behold 3 weeks later it blew at 26k,which i diognosed? for him,& main dealer confirmed for the price of £100 :!: .They wanted £1100 to repair it.

I once left those intercooler pipes a bit loose on a Xantia, when the hose blew off it blew my hat off too :) Theres a lot of air rushing through those pipes, nice diagnosis there, convert your bro in law to a frog easily and you can do all his future head gaskets :?

The coupe version was in the pipeline but citroen dropped it due to competing with the 406 coupe and knowing it would have sold better due to its supension setup and engines, v6 and turbo would have been very good with it on an activa platform as well and taken teh extra wieght :)
