Its within the tailgate itself as its a mercury tilt switch, remove the black plastic inner panel and look for a small black tubular shaped 'thingy' with a wire connection running to it.

isn't it a sprung plastic switch, a plunger type thing, located where the boot lock hoop comes out of rear valance? I sort of know what I mean,, a very late night :(

If I press mine, the boot light goes off.. from dubious memory..

I can absolutely guarantee that the light will not go out if press the plunger down. The microswitch attached is for the locking/alarm system.

If I begin to slowly close the hatch, the light will go out when the hatch is about horizontal - it doesn't get anywhere near the latch. Try it, you'll see :wink:

What Dickie describes makes sense given the above.

Models fitted with Hydractive suspension have a switch under there to activate the Hydractive as part of the 'anti-jolt' function.
