Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I thought after I'd changed the gearlinkage pin (the one on the crank arm on the box itself, wrong replacement but it fitted and seems better than the old one so never mind plus no grazed knuckles) I'd check the sunroof for leaks before they occurred.

You know how it is, open the roof and pour a little water into the channels, then go and check...

Just checking my credit card receipts...

I went to our local purveyor of petroleum this morning and filled the Activa and Rattiva.

I was charged the right amount for the Activa but a fill of diesel from just under three-quarters full for Rattiva cost only £3.38.

Now I know the HDi is bloody good on fuel and Xantia fuel gauges are not precision...

Hi All,

Whilst reading Car Mechanics magazine I came across a short piece in the 'trader column' about the problems of fitting solid flywheels to engines that were originally supplied with DMFs. According the the piece there's whispers of sheared cranks and the impending court action by a manufacturer.

Anyone heard anymore on this?

A 1.9 non turbo diesel Golf
A 2.0TDi Audi A6 coupe
A Ford S-Max 2.0TDci.

The S-Max is always the first to go followed by the Audi and then the Billy No Mates Golf.

Golf is duller than crown green bowls, is poorly spec'd, plasticky and sloooooow.
Audi looks the nuts but flatters to deceive and has a horrible driving...

Got a letter from vic saying it needs a check. Becase it might have beeen in a accerdent or damged.
I need to do it to get my log book. Phoned up vic dvla and my insurance. And im phoning the gaurge tomoorow to speak to the boss.

Ive had my Lexia (copy) installed on a laptop for some time, it always asks me to install the Lexia lead n every use and usually it works fine after attempting that a few times. Im sure it can't be right that I need to install the lead every time?

However now it won't install the lead at all, it says there is a problem with the installation and...

Well, in fact its four computers which are networked and need constant updating to run a till system on them. There is also another computer which is about 5 miles away and is also on the network. In a few weeks I have a trip to Northampton for a day for some more training.

Maybe one for Vince or Timmo?

I am using G3+ compound by hand, then Autoglym Radiant Wax. According to my reading of internet comments on the wax this is best sealed over with another product. Normally I wash a dirty-but-clean car with the trade packaged Autoglym shampoo/wax stuff.

Any suggestions (not Zymöl Royal Glaze at £1500/tin, either)?...

Autoglyms bumper gel is very good for this, they do 2, a plastic and vynal dressing (goldy coloured square label) and bumper care (green label), the bumper care is the better for the trims, although works well on rubber window surrounds too, apply thick ish and rub into the trim rather than onto it if you know what I mean, leave till you've donme...

Some of the very last 2002 and 2003 Saxo's / 106 Diesels. The Saxo appeared to have a electronic advance pump and a large ECU atop (better than under I guess) the battery, where as the 106's still retain a mechanical advanced pump. I can remember the large ECU on the battery though. I know its got to go there as...

My blue 605 has a weeping waterpump. It leaks a steady fine dribble from the weephole - I've confirmed this as the source. This pump is apparently only a few years old.

Normally, the things which cause a waterpump to weep (seal failure) are sitting still for years (not the case here), or...

Centre operating part looks identical.
Just much less of the outer casing casting than in your V6 photo.
I could not see how the pulley wheel and impellor were fixed to the shaft.

SX C5 hatchbacks with 2.0 engines have a nice design of alloy wheel which I thought might well suit the Xantias shape. Not seen one them before but there is this on ebay which does look rahter good on them in my opinion. Still 15 so will take the correct Xantia sized tyres.

The joys of living in the south west, in my (well, fairly short time on this planet) I've not known of a hosepipe ban down here. Although my parents do like to remind me of the great drought of '76 in which they found an old bridge in a reservoir.

I always assumed that the hosepipe ban was just that and that buckets are okay as not so much water...

I so want this. Price has dropped one sixth to $25K or £16200 roughly.

Triple blue would be better (blue coachwork, blue Everflex roof, blue interior) but this shown, is still rare as heck.

Unforchanitly, by the time work pays a fat wad (third quarter) there will be more pressing issues at the table than a plush toy.

Does anybody happen to have a TUD engine in pieces or out of a vehicle at the moment?

Or do you know somebody who has one?

I don't have one yet, but I am trying to figure out a few details (dimensions etc) to see if I can get one to fit into a engine...

I can say with 100% accuracy that the diesel MA boxes will fit a petrol MA, they use the same casings :)

General information really. :)

They are approaching my pricing point and I do need to change (current non PSA) back in say two months or so.

I don't like the C1 and not keen on the C3 either, I like its shape but I wanted a 2door so a C2 may be the logical answer. I'm slightly put off by the rear side window though given its a different height...

Some of the sensomatic box's can be good if they have had their work done in warranty :)

My mum had a furio from near new until late last year, 50k miles on it i think and it had the 1.4 8v.

Cracking motor, half decent economy but no ABS.

The early ones don't have it and the GT versions never got it either IIRC.

I'm slowly dragging everything over to the new computer; it means I have to ditch Outlook Express in favour of something like Outlook.

What is not really clear (having not yet bought the software) is whether the single user stipulation of genuine software limits you to one address with Outlook, fullstop. Or is it like OE, where you can flip...

I've been using Thunderbird for some time now and it's excellent, especially when used as an IMAP client...

I also have Squirrelmail webmail and that is pretty excellent too. It's an IMA client behind the scenes and therefore it allows the same views of your mailbox as you see in Thunderbird...

chaps, urgent need to remove 2 wheels.. at a push I could buy something - but an imperial socket and a big hammer? I don't want to see the wheel bolts again, but I do want them out of the way cheaply..

I - as some others - experience dialogue issues at times with the faux Lexia, especially when using the 30-16 adaptor.

If I were to make up simple jumper wires to go from the car's socket to the 16 pin Lexia plug in hope of better connectivity, exactly how many do I need to get communication initiated? B+, B-, shielding and the specific pin...

I use the 30 pin to 25 pin adaptor in preference to the 16 pin one.
Can bell out both sorts for connections if you need it.

I've got a laptop that Allan has been patiently waiting ages for, and I can't find any suitable boxes to put it in.
The post offices I've been to have boxes that are either way too small or too large.
I was hoping to empty an old Toshiba laptop box but I'm no longer able to use that.

Any ideas where I could pick one up?

I can't be 100% positive, honestly. However I have a good eye for authenticity and if it's not original, it is a major repair or reshell very early in life. There is zero overspray and none of the usual telltale misfitted bits. Paint all over the car is thin; I have hand polished through on the sills as well - plus you can see through to primer on...

I doubt a 406 rear bend would fit in a Xantia but you might get thr front seats in. Howevere there are leather seats around for Xantias. I think Davetherave still has a set of nice black leather seats for a Xantia.
