Oh Poo... What do I do now?

Post by CitroJim »

Just checking my credit card receipts...

I went to our local purveyor of petroleum this morning and filled the Activa and Rattiva.

I was charged the right amount for the Activa but a fill of diesel from just under three-quarters full for Rattiva cost only £3.38.

Now I know the HDi is bloody good on fuel and Xantia fuel gauges are not precision items but I've been seriously under-charged...

What should I do? Fess up next time I go for fuel or just ignore it?

Both my and cashier's fault. He knew I'd filled up but we were laughing and joking with each other all the time the transaction was taking place...

Bugger...

I'd be at least asking my credit provider for the frequent flyer points foregone, to be instated.

More seriously, make a donation of 50% the sum to MSF, with the receipt in the service station's company name and post it to them anonymously. That way you ease your conscience, help somebody and get the slackarses a little back of what they gave away.

It is equal fault if you are fair about it, so your liability once the deed is completed, remains at 50% only...

i had similar at the dentist last time i went, instead of being £47 the card receipt said 47p, sadly they had my address details and wrote to me to inform me!
i'd be tempted if its close to pop in and pick up a paper and a pint of milk and see if the cashier recognises you! is it your usual fuel stop?? just hope they've not gone through the cctv and put a picture of you up saying 'Wanted' :-D

Or! swap and use a different petrol station and make a donation to your fav charity of a % amount??

When Danielle and I moved house using one of the van's from work, we filled up with fuel before dropping it off, I picked up some confectionery and just put my card in the reader, hit my pin and left.
The next day I got a phone call from the store's manager asking if I'd filled up, at first I was thinking maybe I put petrol in by mistake and he was calling to say the van was dead, but no, he'd been contacted by the police as I'd been reported as doing a fill and run. Work paid the outstanding bill which was nice of them :)

Cans of Red Bull actually...

No receipt as such, just the slip from the card machine...

BP actually. Yep, it's my local and thinking hard all today that's what I'll do I think for the best. Don't want the fuzz calling around or even upsetting my local place...

I had something like this happen to me a while back (FIRST TIME IN DECADES!), and even the pump guy realised something was wrong, and I agreed, so we settled on what I 'thought' was the correct amount I put in, and I came away thinking I had either paid the right amount or added to Texaco's coffers!

Thing is, I happen to believe there's a copper around every corner, and never take chances, so I'm an honest bod. The karma will get you if you try a fast one, you know it.

I've just been to the garage and sorted it...

They had me reported as a 'drive off' and had not taken any action yet as they were awaiting a response from DVLA on my address.

They were very good, thanked me profusely for my honesty and said it happens quite regularly.

The don't involve the boys in blue initially. The company would have written with an invitation to settle the account in the first instance.

I'm now the proud owner of a 'Drive Off Paid' receipt

I came so close there to blemishing my clean (in the UK at least...) criminal record...

Tim, I'm intrinsically honest too and had I not got it sorted it would have played on my mind terribly...

My one offence in the UK is an SP30 in 1988 on a motorbike.

I was nicked for speeding in Australia, nicked for driving sans insurance in Cyprus and still have an outstanding parking fine in South Africa from 1990.

That is the sum total of my criminal record...

Getting married was my crime! Aw, I dunno about that. Maybe, maybe not, but what was the alternative?
