Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

No, not my birthday or the age of my car.
Tomorrow is our 41st wedding anniversary. Married in Hammersmith London W6, Registrars office on October 14th 1972.

Just things that would of been (potentially) good cars:

1. 205 1.5D , powerful enough for this and may of increased economy even more, although the 1.8D was quite frugal anyway and powerful anyway.

2. 306TD auto, why why why did not they not make one ? :( , I am aware there was a ZX1.9D auto for a while but no matching 306 model.

Haven't posted this in a car specific section as its not really applicable at the mo.

Have been looking at replacing wife's rear off side wheel bearing on her Micra as it has come up on an advisory on the MOT. Problem is what is a good make of bearing, Ebay plus Eurocar parts have them from about 12 quid odd up to dealer prices. There is an ORBIS...

Hi, my berlingo is booked in for a MOT at 11.30 and I knew the airbag light was on (and has been for 8 years or so), so I had a look in the Haynes book but all it said was to take the car in to a Citroen dealer. A quick search of the Citroen section pointed me straight at the rather pathetic underseat wiring connectors and I had it fixed 10...

Featuring myself as the test bunny.

Late last year I fitted two new front tyres on the Xantia. Deliberately, I ran them without balancing. The alignment coloured dots were followed.

Tracking was fair; not perfect but not massively wrong.

The results are in - one has completely expired after ten months, the other is well-worn. Vibration was...

Compared to what it can be, yes. Still more pleasant than a small tipper, or a Volvo XC70 (this one surprised me with its rubbish ride).

For much of the around-town stuff, speeds are so slow you don't really notice the vibration - it kicked in over 60MPH.

My mot is due in January. but i have a hole on the sills near the jacking point. It will fail its mot for sure. I know theres still some time to go. But when winter kicks in. Theres no doubt it will get worst.

I need a receptacle female and male 2 pin plug for an outboard motor. Official parts are NLA.

The grommet with the hole pierced in it is about 20mm dia. I want to fix a female plug in there. It is from the charging coil of a 5hp motor to the battery in boat.

Anyone know about trailers? I'm shopping around for a trailer suitable for taking my Clio backwards and forwards to the track. My old man says get one with suspension. However pondering this, most of the total weight is already suspended by the cars own suspension. This leaves only the unsprung weight of the trailer itself, which won't be huge...

PS if it is over 750kg then you could rig up an extension to the handbrake cable which runs under the car and then can be tied onto the tow hook, thus it becomes braked and fine to tow with an a frame. Then all you need is a cheap set of wheels and tyres to tow it on and a light trolley jack and swap onto your race tyres once at the track. The...

We seem now to be at a point where the price of an unrusted 406 or Xantia in Australia, is less than the price of a UK car. It's mind-boggling. Trade buying price for a Xantia without registration (eg, tax) is $200 to $400.

Yet people want thousands still, for an equivalent age Corolla or Honda.

I was considering buying a set of bearing removal tools as I've had much fun an games in the past managing without one. Looking online I see two different designs:

A large vice and an old socket set have usually worked for me. For the odd thing that has defeated me and need to be pressed I've just taken the assembly in question to my tamed garage. Bushes etc have usually been about a fiver a pop. Saves a lot of work, and the expense and storage of equipment I wouldn't otherwise use regularly.

I don't read the motoring press overmuch and only spotted the other day that the C6 is no more. It set me thinking that whoever does Citroen marketing, pricing and strategy really should be sacked. Barely advertised in the UK, overpriced, not particularly quick, not particularly economical; no estate --- was it just meant for sale to some secret...

Just had a fantastic 3 weeks driving from Chicago to LA .... nearly 3300 miles... 174 quid in petrol :shock: the hire car was to be a Toyota Corolla but it was upgraded to a brand new Hyundai Sonata hybrid.

some eye opening stuff re lane discpline and speeding. Huge trucks doing 80 plus on both sides of you! 4 and 6 lanes all speeding and there...

Scary with big trucks doing 80, I see this regularly on the I95 to work everyday! I seem to notice that the closer to LA you drive the worse the driving standards get!

In the middle of taking an XUD to bits and found this:

...the other 3 are perfect and look like new. This was the cylinder where I had a glow plug snap off in the head. I wonder if some debris has fallen down into the cylinder :( The engine did have a small amount of blow by, I had put that down to the crappy fibre head gasket it had fitted,...

looks like the reconditioning was just a jet wash off and a coat of black paint,
if it had bin re/conned properly they would have machined/skimmed the top of the block.

you can still see the imprint of the old gasket

i understand ebay will be not only taking a percentage of the final selling fee from private sellers, but now they are going to also take a percentage of the postage charged by the seller,

dont they take enough money from there customers already

Id be soooo tempted to setup a new web site and charge a FLAT FEE of say Ten Pounds end of, to list anything!

Then just leave it in the corener running taking in all the payments.... surely there cant be anything stopping a New web site for selling being setup...

I'm after anther block like on the end of the wires shown on the picture. So then there plug and play on the indicators from ph2 to ph3 then.

I have got side indicator plugs similar but there smaller with a 501 bulb. So I'm trying to find out where the bigger block name ones are?

Ah.

I don't think they have a specific name as such, it would come as pictured if you asked the dealer. Just a multiway plug.

There are variations (watch for PH3 vs PH2 changes as per my 106 issues ie very late models might have something else!) , it would be best to just cut plugs / sockets from the scrapyard if needed and a quick and tidy...

I'm rebuilding an XUD at the moment (although not due to any mechanical failure). When I got the car it had a 100k on the clock, and then I've done 45k on veg, with oil changes every 3k. I've had the Old Man round to inspect the internals and overall he was very impressed with the condition of the engine. Pattern part piston rings seem to be hit...

hey guys,
have been out battling the trusty fiat over the weekend fitting replacement struts and lower arms, and despite the part numbers all tallying up the arms ive put on appear to be a little longer than the originals,
So now am left with the wheels Quite toe'd out, i'm guessing that the arms are for the later wider more powerful version and...

well after an attempt i have given up purely based on not having the ability to move the lock nut on the track rod end! unsuprisingly done up Tight but with as much grunt as i could muster, it wasnt moving!
have measured up the arms and compared them to th eold which i assumed were longer but alas, they are not! and the mounts on the shock are...

I have just watched the last episode of the current series of Top Gear, and (while recent episodes have gone downhill) it made me proud I am from the isles of Great Britain. The last item really made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

Im still not convinced by the new SSRR. Fair enough its a hell of a lot better than the old model but its not based on the same chassis as the FFRR as its got no chassis! its a monocoque and they are very different items..

Andy was wondering if its safe to use petrol pipe for diesel. Specifically the clear piping. ? :)

I'm aware a lot of pumps have a clear section already but I'm not really sure on standards.

Having (a long time ago) been sold fuel hose from a factor that melted a week later due to the petrol eating it, I tend to be a bit wary. Assume it was...

I've just spent the past 90 minutes recovering someone's Yahoo account.
She's off on maternity leave with a very unwell premature baby, so has other things on her mind. She received an email claiming to be from Yahoo stating that she was over her mail quota and if she wanted to keep her account she should follow the link in the email and log in....

Usual stuff, one of the 'tags' decided to snap off and make a run for freedom while I was extending them :oops: as they compress over time. Used late model 106 RF plips are thin on the ground too and they are best in the Saxo 'stand alone' case as that seems stronger like this one. The factory 106 ones the rubbers are not replaceable on the later...

LT71141 is generally not a bad price from them (just under £10 per litre) this brings it down to about £8 per litre :)

I prefer the rawness of the old 405T16, but all credit to Loeb for a job superbly done.

I'm on the fence with that one. I'm not sure. Ari's run was impressive of course, but the speeds are so much higher on Loeb's run. Peugeot believe that car would have done a similar time on gravel, and I see no reason to doubt it.

My favourite bit is at 6:55...
