Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

As the title. I took a policy out with this lot and their practices are to say the least questionable. Google Be Wiser complaints. There's lots of reading there for you.
I will be steering well clear of them in future.

I need car insurance on an extra car probably only for a couple of months. Temporary policies are a complete waste of time as the cost is huge. In most cases I'd actually just be cheaper hiring a car, ridiculous. The other alternative is to take a standard policy then cancel it when I no longer require it, but most have a £50 cancellation fee....

Had an xantia in today saying poor brakes and steering.

Well no fluid in tank as all leaked out of the caliper, how would you not know your brakes were this bad must of made a right noise. Worn that much the pad disappeared.

Would not believe that was a vented disc!!!

The best and most reliable car I had was the Prius T Spirit. The only maintenance I 'had' to do was clean the front pads because they started squeaking. Worst car was probably a Cortina Mk2.

After many months stood idle and not being on the road for a year I needed to start up and move the old girl. I dropped in her battery that's been in the garage on charge and gave her one time on the glowplugs. i know its not french but i also know theres alot o fgood mechanics on here too ;)

ive gota do a water pump on a rover 25 tommorrow and havent got any locking tools and theres no budjet for one :(
any good suggestions on locking the cams up and crank that can be done with a set of tools?

Booked the MOT for the Veg burner on Friday morning (09:30), done 0 prep to it apart from the advisories form last year.
How many fails or Advisories do you reckon it'll get???? ;-)

it'll definately get one for Oil leak on engine as there's Oil All over it from the cog box issues, And it'll get one for Play in the wiper...

I'm trying to find in the UK 2 bolts M10 x 1.25 bolt with 16mm thread length and 8.8 grade. The length can be longer and cut down on the 16mm.

I have a 'M' reg. 1.0 Ltr and the speedometer cable has snapped. I access to a 1.0 Ltr. 'P' reg. AX for spares which has the later electronic cableless speedometer. Can anyone tell me if I can convert the 'M' reg. to use the cableless system please.

I've heard this talked about before its a bit of a tight squeeze and I think you need a homemade downpipe as the stock one will not fit as the bulkhead / trans tunnel is in the way.

I've had AA membership now for 3 years. The original guy caught me off guard when I came out of B&Q one Sunday afternoon and it seemed like a good idea so I signed up at a discounted rate for the year as a special promotion.

I'm not sure how well known this is.

A bit of exposure to a fault on C3 and Blingo models with the 1.4 has yielded the common faults thus:

Dash temperature gauge suddenly goes to max, warning light on. Then it stops again and back to normal! Faults come up as temperature sensor short circuit or open circuit and permanent cooling fault in ECU...

This quest started when I swapped rear flex hoses on my 405 disc brake rear, and the brake fluid siphoned itself right out. Took me half a dozen bleeds to get it sorted.

So now, a simple couple of items you make from used brake hoses. You need a small metal vice and brazing kit.

I need to weld various parts of the underside of the 405. It's currently more or less a bare shell on my driveway. They seem to have excellent feedback. I wouldn't anticipate keeping it, I'd buy it, do the job, then sell it on. I hadn't considered something like this...

Well, I'm going to be needing something to replace the C5 with at some point in the not-too-distant. Curiously it's water usage hasn't been too bad this week. Haven't taken the cap off to check, but as I've had no top up engine coolant message, I guess it's ok.

Anyway. Whatever I get *must* be petrol due to the ability to get it cheap, legally....

Where there any FWD applications using the Indenor unit ? :)

Something says no as it appears quite a long unit (with viscous fan but that's easily dealt with) but I could be wrong.
