I think the second picture they are just making up for a lack of a press to fit that ball joint perhaps. :)

Maybe but as soon as weight rests upon it the whole wishbone will flip... Somewhere...

True, and likely aim towards a person ( :( ) or something such as a window.

Its one of the reasons I've never done the 'spanner jammed on ground and flick the starter' method to undo a crank pulley bolt, I have visions of the spanner going for a flying lesson.
