I don't have knowledge of the Peugeot, but the issue of a loose connection is known with several makes of car.
I doubt the piece of plastic holding the cable to the floor will cause an issue with the air bag light, but an intermittent loose connection in the plug and socket almost certainly will. Check for a good electrical connection within. Look...

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to check if the mileage on my scenic has ever been altered. I was wondering if it is possible to check the CPU and would it register any interference to it.

I don't know about that but check the MOT history online using the address given on your certificate. That tells you the mileage and also what it's failed for. It won't tell you anything that went on before the new style MOTs but it's a start.

I discovered my Xantia had 70k shaved off that way. :(

hi, hello to all,this is my first time so be gentle.
i have taken the gearbox casing off my1999 master and now i cannot get it back on. the problem seems to be that the slot on the selecter mechanism will not line up with the guide pin no matter where i position the selecter/gears. i have done nothing to ther box other than take the end casing...

ok,so i have finally realised its a selecter position problem,but how do you configure them?it seems you have to manipulate them as you close the box somehow but you run out of room before the pressed steel body part of the selecter engages on its pin. does anyone have the answer?

Just joined the forum after purchasing a Clio 1.4 Dynamique+ for my GF. After looking at similar offerings from other manufacturers we decided the Clio was the best allrounder. The car looks good and the 1.4 has just the right amount of fizz for a small economical car. There is however, a however... The car did come with some niggles...

Hi,
Laguna 02 model 1.8 petrol auto....great car to drive but has problems!
Air bag light stays on.
(Orange) ABS and (Red) Brake warning lights stay on can't get 'em off!
Rear number plate lights don't light up though both lighting units have been chacked as o.k. - fuse o.k. !

I've just taken the thermostat off of my mk1 clio (phase 3) and need to replace it.

However I can't get it out of the housing and someone has said it's all one unit. Is this right? It would make sense as I've tried nearly everything and it won't budge!!!

Although I have seen just the housing and just the thermostat in two seperate eBay...

Since I had a flat battery which I removed and recharged I have been having trouble with my electrics. The heater blower no longer works on any speed even though all the lights light up and you can hear the air con click on etc, is there a fuse or relay for the blower? Also when I raise my drivers side window the stereo cuts out and then resumes...

Hi, wonder if anybody had any ideas on this starting problem?

My car is a 1998 Megane 1.4 litre petrol engine. Now and again, (maybe once in every 10-15 times) the car will not start. It turns over but does not fire up.
Sometimes just holding the ignition key turned for an extra 5 or 6 more seconds gets the car going or more often I have to sit...

I found the sensor from your instructions and cleaned it up (quite a lot of dirt came off onto the rag!!).
It's been 2 weeks now and I have had no further trouble with the car starting.

I had a problem like this with another car, and to rectify it had to climb in the back of the vehicle, and remove the interior trim.

With the trim off I was able to access the lock barrel, and central locking servo, and the rest of the operating mechanism.

Pulling on the operating rod released the catch mechanism, so I could open the tailgate....

Hi everyone I'm looking at a couple of different used Renault models, notably Grand Scenic and Espace but can't quite get to grips with the 'french' trim levels i.e. authentique, dynamique, privilege etc. Can anyone enlighten me on what order these go in from most basic to top spec?

It was all a lot simpler with L, GL and GLX!!!

Yeah I know what you mean...it is confusing....not like the old days when the more letters the better the spec (L, GL, GLX..etc)

Have a look on Parker's site for used prices... generally the model at the top of the list is the lowest spec & the one at the bottom of the list is the best spec.

Laguna engine choked

2002 Laguna 1.9 dci.. Pulling a caravan when had complete loss of power, engine stopped. ( some smoke from exhaust, glow plug light on ). Car was taken to garage where diagnostic m/c showed faulty MAF meter. This was changed and car started... until i tried to move it.. then stopped !.. Now when attempting to start, engine will struggle and cut...

I would guess that it's a problem with the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve. These are prone to problems on this engine.

You will find a lot more detailed advice on this engine & the problems it suffers from at the Renault forum.

I have an 04 Scenic 1.5 DCI 80, a few months ago the battery died and was replaced.
When is started the car on it's new battery it said there was a fault with the parking brake and the little Triangle with the P lit up and the Service light.
The handbrake works exactly as it should and it passed its last MOT no problems.

What oil grade should be used for a Megane 1.9dci (2004)?

I believe Renault only recommend fully synthetic 5w40 now as opposed to the 10w40 semi that used to be used on this engine.

The service interval on this engine is 18,000 miles :shock: & I think the oil specification change was more than likely to accommodate this.

Personally I wouldn't let an engine go 18,000 miles between oil changes no matter...

Hi All,

I have a 53 plate Laguna and the Lock button is unresponsive on both key cards. The Unlock works fine.

This means I have to lock the car from the inside.

Is this a known problem with the keys?

Does anyone have any suggestions or know prices on how much i would expect to pay to resolve the problem?

Laguna II Central Locking Motor Problem

A few days ago my drivers door central locking motor was making a wierd noise when locking and unlocking - a more louder and high pitched noise than normal.

Today it isn't locking the door - it still makes a noise but more of a whiney sound.

I recently bought a 3 yr old clio ( 1.5 dci ), according to my handbook the button on the end of the wiper stick is supposed to alternate the trip mileage between mpg ,av speed ,total cons etc , However nothing happens the display just stays on the trip mileage . I had this checked by renault as I found it hard to beleive that it should just go together with no sort of seal, initially they told me that the diagrams showed a gasket but when they tried to order this part for me it had no part number, which to them means it is not require to be...

I have a 1999 Laguna and I have replaced both headlamps but now I need to set up the adjuster motors. The Haynes manual quotes a dimension on the motor ball joint but it doesn't state what the measurement is supposed to be. Does anyone know how to set these up?

Megane rear hub nut

I want to check the brake shoes on my 1998 Megane. The Haynes manual says that I need to remove the hub nuts to do this, and that I should use a new hub nut on refitting. Is it necessary to use a new hub nut? If so where would be the best place to obtain one? Thanks

Well I have some brake shoes, but there is no hub nut with them. Where would be the best place to buy new hub nuts? I'm struggling to find anywhere that stocks them. Would it be a case of going to a Renault dealer and paying their silly pices?

I have a renault clio and coming home from Wales I was travelling around 65/70 mph on the motorway when engine just cut out. the engine management light came on, the STOP light came on (not much choice!!) and the other little engine light at the side of the display. I stopped, waited 5 mins, and restarted, and she was fine. I took to the garage...

My speed dial in my car is going ape!! I assumed that the cable had snapped but have been told that the guage is actually electrical. Does anybody know anything about this? Sorry. I always assume everyone knows what I am on about!! Its a renault megane coupe, 1999. And it looks just like a compass when its placed near a magnet!! It just goes up and down the numbers regardless as to how fast I am going!

HI I had a similar problem about a year ago, then i changed the gearbox oil for some premium stuff and problem solved.

My scenic had done about 58000miles when i changed the oil and im now well in to the high 70K area with absolutly no issues :)

Hi, just purchased a 98 megane 1.6 16v cabriolet. Upon driving it down the motorway as soon as i hit 70-80 mph it lost power, and even If i put my foot to the floor, it went down to about 2500 revs before it picked up again. I notice now that i can't get above 4000 revs in any gear, feels 'blocked' even that explains it.

Megane scenic not starting

I went to start my car earlier and it wouldnt turn over. The dash did light up though. I tried this several times and nothing. I left it several minutes and tried it again and it started first time! Its a petrol engine if that helps.
Any ideas?

Sounds like its linked to the starter motor. have you checked your fuses? you may have a blown fuse which is stopping your starter motor from engaging.
