General Scenic window regulator information: Typically the plastic clip holding the window to the mechanism breaks as there is no clutch to protect it. You ‘have’ to buy the complete mech ~£200 for the sake of a 50p piece of plastic!! Bludgeon Renault to sell it separately at every opportunity. It’s a design weakness not wear and tear. If you’re handy you can get a regulator mech minus motor from Power Windows, Tel 01254 57579 in UK, for £55 (Nov 08 ) who gave me really good service. Following instructions in Haynes manual is reasonably easy though pulling off clips holding cloth panel can take a lot of force. Take out old mech and swop motor to new one and put back together. You’ll need a set of those fluted allen type keys, forget what they call them.
If window only goes up an inch at a time you need to re-set it. Raise window to the top and hold the button up for 6 seconds and it should work properly.
To stop breakages I suggest you lubricate rubber strips that windows run in (silicon spray maybe) so they don’t stick after long periods of no use. Haven’t tried it but it seams reasonable. But don’t use anything that might cause sticking! If a window hasn’t been used for long time try manually pushing it around to free it from being stuck to sliders ‘BEFORE’ using it and then lubricate them.
This is procedure for a Renault Scenic rear door (2004).
- Raise window by hand into fully up position and tape to top of door
- Take out screws holding door release handle and window switch plate (under caps)
- Lift out front of door release and withdraw
- Lift up BACK end of switch plate and withdraw
- Release plug to switch plate and put to one side
- Carefully lever bottom edge of cloth panel out to release clips and lift away (noting where door release cable runs)
- Remove screw in centre of door holding plastic moulding
- Remove screw on bottom edge of main door panel
- Lift door panel vertically up to release it and unclip wires were necessary so it can hinge out of the way being very careful not to stress wires
- Undo 3 nuts holding mechanism, remove and inspect. (inc broken bits)
- If problem is broken clip source a mech without motor
- When you have replacement undo 3 screws holding motor to old mech and note its position relative to mech, withdraw motor and take off cable bobbin
- Hold new cable bobbin in position and move slider until the tongues on bobbin fit into recesses in motor and replace screws
- Fit mechanism and remove screw that holds glass. (earlier ones just clip into place)
- If slider is in inconvenient position reconnect window switch and adjust
- Gently lower window glass into clip and replace screw
- Check if window works and refit all parts. (make sure window blind tab is ABOVE cloth panel when fitting and release cable and wires are all in original positions)
- You have just saved £200+ on garage bill! Yippee ?
