Given the number of 'After-sales campaign' notices concerning Takarta Airbags I have been made aware of when looking up parts from PSA for members, I thought I would post a link to the following documentary that may be informative concerning the issue with these igniters.

According to Takata, the chemicals in the airbags’ explosive charge can...

Disruption to Parts Service

This has caused some problems for organisations like ours and the Team are currently looking at the best way forward. This...

LHM tank

by JohnD » 11 Aug 2002, 00:04

First post

Presumably you have either a Xantia, an XM, a BX or a CX. It's only these Citroens that require LHM. If you are lucky enough to have one of these vehicles, LHM is the liquid that gives the vehicle it's magic-carpet ride. Look under your bonnet and you will see a tank with five or six hoses running from the top. If you have a BX, the tank will be...

ZX road manners

by Dave1 » 10 Aug 2002, 01:58

I find it strange you are experiencing this problem. The ZX is pretty much renowned for sticking to the road like glue . xantia brake control valve

by RichardW » 09 Aug 2002, 14:06

AFAIK the brake valve is bolted on from inside. Leak may just be a pipe union that needs tightening up - I had this on my BX when it failed an MOT - especially if the valve itself is loose - try tightning it up, and nipping up the unions to see if this cures the leak.

Replacing Xantia front indicator

by MW » 07 Aug 2002, 22:39

Well whaddaya know, I just answered my own question. There aren't any mounting bolts for the front indicators on a Xantia!
You just open the bonnet, stick a screwdriver down the side of the flasher unit, depress the catch on the top, and the whole assembly slides forward out from the front of the car. Why can't everything be this simple?

Whoops, I broke my nearside front indicator unit while I was on holiday. Some stupid fencepost decided that it had more of a right to be in that particular spot than me. I could be very wrong here, but I'm sure the sporty note of a petrol has a lot to do with the way the car is fuelled. Am about to locate a fault in the ABS of my Car 1993 1.9TD SX. I know the relevant pins in the Multi plug, connecting to the ABS ECU, for the roadwheel sensors. Can any one tell me the function of the rest of the pins ? I am sure they must be earthing, 12 v feed etc.
For what its worth my money is on a faulty sensor or poor earth somewhere

Clicking Relay

by alan s » 05 Aug 2002, 19:05

First post

My guess is that you have got a moisture problem or a dodgy connection that is activating the solenoid in a relay.
If it is something associated with the lights, it could be that the light flasher on the indicator stalk could have loose internals which as you suspect may be causing intermittent flashing of the lights. You'll probably have this...

Last post

My car, ZX TD Aura 1993.
Standard electrically apart from Nokia handsfree kit.
Theres a clicking noise from the fusebox area (where the relays are!) that sounds like a relay switching on and off rapidly. It can occur at random, sometimes I go over a bump and it starts clicking, sometimes if I turn the lights on, and sometimes after I use the...

Xantia: hydractive 1 and 2

by jonkw » 05 Aug 2002, 17:20

First post

Theres an excellent website that describes all the various versions of Hydractive at its in French but the diagrams etc are very clear and easy to understand.

Last post

Hello,
Does anybody know what the physical (not functional) differences between the standard hydractive and the hydractive II used on the VSX models? Is it purely an electronic change, or are there different mechanical components as well?
Thank you.
Rupert.

Getting the gearbox off to do the clutch on a BX

by Dave Burns » 05 Aug 2002, 05:26

First post

The bolt's holding the intermediate bearing in place have specially shaped head's, once loose they need to be turned through a minimum angle of 90 degrees, this negates the need to remove them completely though you can of course take them out, at least then you will see how they work.
The drive shaft is an interferance fit inside the bearing which...

The car is a citroen BX, F-Reg (89?) 19 RD (if im right thats an XUD9a, but i dont know what gearbox).

I've followed the Haynes, and done everything i can, but for the death of me i cant get the right hand drive shaft out. I assume it has to come out of the Diff then slide through the intermediary bearing. Following the Haynes, i have loosened...

Payback - my experiences.

by nick » 05 Aug 2002, 05:41

First post

Just one point, its NOT safe to get under the rear when its only supported by the suspension, particularly to adjust the height corrector (which after all is what controls the height of the rear suspension!)
I know of at least two people being crushed to death doing this, one of them was a 'friend-of-a-friend' of mine who was working under an old...

I've had a lot of help and tips from members of this forum, so I thought it was time to share a few experiences, putting something back in for others to feed from. I have a Xantia TD, but some of these relate to other models...
1) If the back suspension appears to crash over speed bumps, it could be ( amongst many reasons ), the rear spheres need...

picasso and caravan towing

by JohnD » 04 Aug 2002, 18:00

First post

I don't tow with a Picasso, but I do with a Xantia. You probably know that the recommended trailer weight is 85% of the tow car's kerb weight, which (on paper) puts the Picasso a bit under weight. However, the 2 litre HDI would probably cope OK with your van. Why not put your question on the forum at www.practicalcaravan.co.uk

Last post

has anyone towed with a 20hdi picasso - i am thinking of changing to one but not sure what they are like for caravanning - the towing braked max weight for the picasso 1300kg and my outfit fully laden is 1300kg - would like some feed back from anyone as i am unsure what they tow like and the dealer was as much use as a chocolate firegaurd

zx t/d engine replacement

by Dave Burns » 04 Aug 2002, 02:53

First post

Any of the 1.9 td's will fit, but where the intercooler is in front of the rad i.e Xantia, the turbo/manifold will have to be swapped over as the turbo outlet is at a different angle to those with the intercooler above the engine.
Another thing to watch out for is the anti-theft device fitted to the fuel pump, if the ZX has a keypad imobiliser you...

can anybody give me an idea what will fit other than a zx td lump i.e 405 306 bx td etc

Oil ?

by alan s » 04 Aug 2002, 01:55

First post

Dave,
I have a wide range of cars so use a wide range of oils. I must hasten to ad that at present non are diesels let alone turbo ones.
I use Mobil one in my BX 16 valve with extremely good results, Shell semi-synthetic in my CX and 20W-50 in an 8 valve BX with a bit of an appetite for oil (must get that fixed first chance I get)
I suggest you...

Last post

The time is approaching for an oil change on the ZX td. I have used Magnetec for a long time (seems to have been OK even if it is a bit dearer and even over priced some may say). I read an article recently that states it is better to use fully synthetic oil with a turbo as there is less chance of it clogging things up. I have access to some...

ZX Brake pads + fitting

by Dave Burns » 03 Aug 2002, 19:15

First post

If you are talking just pad's, then that price is an absolute rip off.
If it includes the disc's it's still high, you will pay just over £100 for disc's and pad's to do it yourself.
You can get better than a Kwick Fit fitter, I know someone that was a fitter for them, the thing's he's told me
Dave

Last post

I have been quoted £270 by Kwick Fit to install front and read brakes for the ZX Volcane 1.9i. Is that pricey or OK?

xantia hydralic pump seal's

by Dave Burns » 03 Aug 2002, 17:57

First post

If you are talking about the six large head torx bolt's arranged radialy around the pump, these blank off the actual pump cylinder's.
They will more than likely be a standard type 'o' ring, unscrew one and find out, watch for any bit's like piston and spring's falling out, also because the pump is lower than the reservoir it may start to syphon...

Last post

could anyone tell me what type of seals are used under the torx bolts on top of the hydralic pump ('o' rings etc), the torx bolt look like they have been installed to blank off un-used outlets. my local main dealer told me that they no longer do the seals for my year, oh by the way it's 94', L reg,
thanks dom

ZX 16v '93 - engine problems

by alan s » 03 Aug 2002, 06:13

First post

I have just had the injector nozzles out of my BX 16 Valve, cleaned them and fitted a new set of injector seals. There are 9 in total (2 to each nozzle and one on the rail) and it has made an unbelievable difference.
Cheap job, easy to do. Would only take a couple of hours at most.

Hi!
Lately the engine has started to hesitate on accelaration. Not all the time, but very often. It seems like it only happens in a spesific range, between approx 2500rpm->5000rpm. After 5000rpm the normal power kicks inn . Currently using redex to try to clean injectors, thinking this could be the problem. The car was serviced not long ago...

306TD Into ZXTD

by JohnD » 03 Aug 2002, 16:17

Since the two engines are PSA XUD's, they should be the same. While its out, it would be a very easy job to put on a new cambelt and maybe replace the tensioner pulley.

Dear All,
I've managed to track down a 61,000 1.9TD engine out of a 306 (I think there made by Peugeot or someone!) to replace my punctured lump. What parts (if any) will I have to swap over from my existing engine to it? Also, anything worth renewing whilst it's out of the car? I know how tight the engine bay can become when trying to change...

Temperature gauge xantia

by reffro » 02 Aug 2002, 18:35

First post

Stuck thermostat or other blockage in the cooling system, but definitely look at the thermostat first, it might not be opening fully. After that check the water pump flow rate, and that you have a good mixture of coolant and water. It would do no harm to flush out the whole system to clear it of any gunk that may have built up in the engine or...

HI can anyone help? Temperature gauge reads just under 60 as soon as the ignition is switched on, reaching around 100 plus after around ten minutes driving. Any suggestions?
