Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Time to solve this one once and for all! Google turns up too many results, many of which I have tried and failed.

Many cars spend a few nights on my driveway, and it always seems to be the french ones that leave a little present behind. The BX was the first to offend, and since then there's been quite a few more contributions including LDS making...

Out in the 605 today for a ramble, testing the cruise control after repair (bellows had come apart so I removed, cleaned, shined the bellows with rubber grease and degrunged their bracket). Drove a little under 150 miles, and towards the end, my trip computer stopped showing fuel remaining - last volume displayed was 4 litres.

Anyhow, maybe ten...

Hi :D im new to the Forum. Im 15 and getting my first car next year (although i can't drive it for another two years).

I've been interested in cars for as long as i can remember and my dad currently owns a saxo.

As far as i know the 106 and the saxo are basically the same car but i dont know what one to go for,does anyone have any advice? :)...

Saxos are nice cars...well some of them at least, the cheaper ones are pretty dreadful if my pug was anything to go by.

My first car was a 1.1 Pug 106 XN - the bottom trim level with the smallest engine you can get. Bought for £700 and insured for £1850 and that was 4 years ago.
Wouldn't like to think what it'd be like now...

hi Gents

Does anyone now why my Activa will drop its nose to the ground when left for 2 days but pump the back end up to almost full height, is this an anti sink issue or another leaky hydraulics issue?

Mine does the opposite; arse down head up - then excessively drops the front immediately upon startup pressuring. Then the rear lifts, then the front rises again...

My anti-sink is fine; still pops up when recently driven if you fill the tank or sit on the tailgate lip.

As a regular viewer of Watchdog I was quite amused by the recent story of the Citroen C3 Picasso.

The adaptation from LHD to RHD has left the ability for the passenger to press the brake pedal from the passenger side.

Been offered a few C5 Hdi,s recently, went to look at one today which was a 2003 Hdi auto exclusive with 123k on the clock for £900, tempting, but I just dont know enough about them yet.
Now it looks to me like any C5 is worth less and less every week, am seeing 04,s and 05,s going for less than 1k. Now am i right in thinking that its the same...

Ah, your considering buying one from an auction, fair enough.

The room inside a C5 is excellent, its also a very comfortable and refined place to be for a long run too. I like the feel of the C5s size and your right, the C5s dash is very good, easy to use, well built and looks good too.

The C5 does have a lot to offer and should never be over...

Dell Inspiron 1525, busted display. It's a friend's and I haven't seen the damage yet.

How much do you normally have to replace - just the display, or the backlight/inverter/ribbon etc? Are they plug and play, or does one need a soldering iron (I have a Weller station with very fine tip)?

That is well past its best and i doubt would ever be restored. The valuable stuff is original straight parts you can find on these or stuff like pre 1968 front calipers as they are obsolete...until someone starts making them of course :)

I am right aren't I that I can tax a car for July right now?
As it's payday and I had her V5 with me I thought I'd go online and buy Juliet's tax for next month.
I was cautious, looking for any option to say buy for next month, but I saw none ans the start date was 01/06/2011, so I cancelled and filled out their questionaire to say exactly why....

Looks as though my ex's Maestro TD was the last one left running in Britain when she scrapped it in 2006. Only one was taxed in 2005, none taxed the following year ! If only we had known it was such a rare classic :wink:
Shame it almost entirely consisted of filler and Hammerite by that stage....

The workshop lad - my last contract being effectively completed, I have reverted to part time grease monkey status - is learning to drive.

Our current system requires 120 hours of supervised driving (minimum) before a test is allowed. Due to his home situation, our fellow's had difficulty getting anyone help him out with this. So, today we went...

2. With engine running, open bleed screw on regulator and allow all stored pressure to null.

3. Raise car to working height and remove wheels with cordless Snap-On rattle gun.

Ah well..........it had to happen eventually.

After 40 years of roofing slating and steeplejacking I came off at a fair rate of knots fracturing my ankle and fibula..............bloody ouch :shock:

Two ops in last two weeks and another pending. 3 months in plaster with no weight on left leg. I feel lucky. Why?.

What I'm curious to know, is whether all front axle assemblies have the same bolt locations for caliper mounting.

There seem to be an awful lot of interchanges on the swivels. For example, you can take 1991-onwards 405 swivels and fit to a C5 with the Citroen brakes etc just bolting right up.

Has anyone noticed non-conforming setups?

theres a few on the smaller PSA cars, so AX's and saxo's where it doesnt quite line up. but the xantia caliper will bolt onto a saxo sport hub so the 1.4's and 1.6's. The disc offset is all wrong though

It would be fine as both Vehicles are too old to come under the newer derv emmissions test if we are talking Xantias but, as said above, its the shell of the car that governs what rules apply, technicaly if you swap an engine, even for the same engine you have to have an engineers report, inform the dvla and your insurance...

No PAS, they were designed for pretty much an early Dee type tyre - IIRC the Radial X which was similar to a modern 145 width.

Choose a wider tyre, underinflate it, flog out the front end and yes the steering is weighty at slow speeds or when parking.

Evenin all :)

Kids are at an age now (11 - 20 year old) where they're gladly up for a nice long ish bike ride,instead of just up and down the street/localle'..

I've got quite partial to a nice gentle petrol/diesel free (and fuel free!) meander meself. I'm even getting a dab hand at disguising breathlessness,near heart attack.. ooh,look at the...

I have had one bike inside my car when I have just taken one somewhere, though more often than not its 2 or 3 which need to be transported.

The thule bike rack holds the bikes very stable at higher motorway speeds too. The bikes do sway around a little on it when corner, but again they are secure and I stick to my normal driving with them on....

This comes up too often on here, so it's time for a poll.

Petrol for me, every time. I do about 13-14k miles per year, averaging 30 MPG in the Mégane, so really I guess I should have a diesel. There's the potential of halving my fuel costs, not to mention the annual road tax being cut from £235 to £35. But would I do it? Never.

I have not idea how a black box of any description would improve MPG, possibly if it gives it more performance/torque then the engine will need to be worked less and the economy improved when the extra 'go' is not used.

chaps, having a slight issue connecting my 1024 x 576 netbook to my LCD..

LCD wants 1360 x 768 but the netbook just cant give that option for the second screen.. it gives plenty of higher res options, just not that combination..

using XP and VGA lead..

any thoughts?

netbook is HP mini 110-1006TU and LCD is a Bush LT26 something or other

hi homer all sorted now.. I am extending desktop..

to sum up..

my default and plug and play monitors were in a tizzy from some previous adaptation..

we wiped powerstrip, wiped the installed HP display drivers, and started fresh..
this mean't I could plug the LCD and not loose the notebook screen.. a good start..

finally got a decent sized...

I'm looking to buy a good car(well it looks good!!) but it's in Harlow and I'm nearly 3 hours away. It's possible if it's good that I'd be getting it later in the week ready for the weekend but really I need a set of eyes over it as there's only so much I'll trust a seller and pictures. Maybe a dashboard display on all automatics would help the driver, where as they select, they watch what they select, instead of moving the lever without looking, which is a common mistake.

Take a Landrover 109. 70bhp. Noisy thirsty whiney but good fun with double de -clutching thrown in. Drive around for about a week.

For reasons Im still trying to fathom I have just bought a 2000 Xantia HDi which is a carbon copy of the wifes car, same year, same model, same colour same trim!

I am apparently in need of a new control module for the 605 and Beru is about 20% cheaper - but, like Bosch, carries the auspices of a European managed company.

Anyone got stories either first or second person, to support one choice or the other?

Late on last night I saw a 2004/54 Renault Megane Privilege 1.9 DCI top of the line for sale on Ebay near Cardiff.

I took a gamble and jumped on a train first thing this morning and I'm so glad I did as I'm now the very happy new owner of the said vehicle.

Interestingly i never knew the Activa 2 had rear wheel steering with JCB like crab and bend features, also proper suspension was planned aswell, would have been a bit of a weapon if they thought that porche owners could be tempted to wear the double chevrons on their driveway
