Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I've always been put of the thought of washing up liquid (I have used it in the dim and distant past) apart from the bubbles the salt content (I think) is not good for paint but you've said no problems... :)

Hi All,
I'm after some advice and opinions.
I'm trying to help a friend purchase a second hand card, her basic criteria is Comfy, affordable (to run) and reliable. oh and it must be an Auto!
The reason comfort has such a high priority is because of a serious medical issue with her back, most conventional suspension is far to jarring.

2.2hdi can get a decent enough MPG.

Just get the DPF deleted and then get it bashed out as well. Stay on top of servicing and do the filters and fluids at 6k not the silly 12k citroen suggest or every 6 months as the cost isn't that much.
An SX or Exclusive could be had, cheap leather thrown in as well for comfort as the heat option could help...

I've now got Real Racing 3 on the iPad, and coupled to the Retina Display it is very good indeed. I've not spent too much time on it but there's lots of nice tracks and the Time Lapsed Multiplayer works well too.

So my mum went to get me some bits from Citroen in the UK for me, they didn't have them in stock, so had to order them in, but they requested she paid for them then and there, and they'll let her know when they are in to collect.

They didn't amount to all that much (about £30 in total), so not really high value items that would require a deposit...

So I've had a spare Bosch TUD pump floating around my shed ( not literally obviously :P ) for a good six maybe ten months. I grabbed it when I saw it as (1) Bosch pumps do not seem common on these (2) I wanted a mechanical advance spare anyway not like the one I have and (3) I recall it was cheap.

I got my paws on an ultra sonic bath and have been meaning to try a DIY injector refurb for some time now. As the head is currently off the engine now seemed like a good time! Injectors are on 185k, and have done the last 25k on WVO. I say Hillbilly as I don't have a pop tester and I haven't purchased new nozzles. However, ensuring I re-assemble...

You get back in a hydropneumatic car after being stuck with coil springs for a while!

I've noticed that owning a Xantia has made me more aware of ride quality, I feel that I'm always thinking mm comfy, but I wonder if my centre spheres need replacing .

I had a spring brake on me a couple of years ago with a Seat, hit a sharp bit with a loud bang. Luckily it was able to be driven away, but if they go through your tyre at speed ... I'd much rather have a failed strut top!...

Status update:
Just filled up on fuel, 61 liters used to do 612 miles... working out at 45.6mpg
That's with my normal driving, with a couple of episodes of 'spirited driving'.
So basically in line with my usual average mpg, that sounds like a win to me, more power without any mpg loss.

Driving wise still very happy, definitely nicer to drive...

I've just been watching a documentary called A303 Highway to the Sun . It's a good watch for those who are familiar with it, very much a poetic look at the road which I liked. The music on the ending credits surprised me, a band called Kula Shaker wrote a song about it.

Nothing to do with French cars - except I couldn't post here from home! We have an HP laptop - with the rubbish motherboard that melts the graphics chip off :roll: so I wasn't all that surprised when it refused to turn on the other day. Was going to buy a new one, but then figured as it was already knackered there wasn't anything to lose by trying...

A bit of info I've found particularly on HP laptops. If you're wireless stops working for no known reason, the graphics card will likely fail soon then everything else. Then you could do the heaty uppy fix.

About an hour ago, got into the trusty 106, started up and tried to set off.

There was an almighty clunking / grinding noise (difficult to be specific over the noise of a cold advanced TUD :D ) and it seemed to be holding it back. The noise was enough for me to not to attempt to move it.

Yes could of been worse. Car back now with two new (but unknown brand) springs fitted. Tyre appears undamaged although I'll replace the front pair I think anyway at the weekend given the slow puncture on the other one.

I did miss an appointment today though although I'd rather that (and have rebooked it) than have it 'fail' when I was not at home...

Why is it these tend to stick ?

I don't mean where water gets around them and 'afixes' them in place around their sleeves, I mean the 'blowby' (for want of a better description) builds up securely affixing them in place.

Are the seals not up to it ? , the compression is not really much different in a DI vs IDI unit, then again the fuel pressure...

Given our love of French cars I wonder if there are any frequent drivers in France able to pass on advice?

I've booked a camp site in Argeles sur mer (near Perpignan, south coast) for May/June. I have a choice about travel but am leaning towards driving, probably using a ferry from Dover, or Eurotunnel. Could be less than half the cost of flying...

I've got about 6 of these in very decent condition...I haven't started collecting old carrier bags. They happened to contain some branded South West group jumpers and T shirts which were made back at the start of the century.

Yes, the ES9 V6 is very conservatively tuned as it stands and is good for plenty more. Some twin turbo them...

Prior to being made redundant, for the whole of my working life I have been fortunate in that I have had a very short commute, 12-15 minutes. There is a slim chance I may be offered a job in the next couple of days but its 35 miles away. The route is over A and B roads and is not particularly pleasant. I don't even have a car so I'll need to...

what do you highly techy types think of this below as an alternative to supper glue and conductive paint for heated rear screen repair's,
as in bonding terminals back to the screen

in my experience the repair im talking about the super glue does not come into contact with the glass, but just to the original bonding for the heated screen terminal,

i certainly would not super glue a rear view mirror back in place, as there is a lot of leverage going through the mirror to its mounting point when adjusting it

What makes you buy either Citroen, Pug or Fiat....I mean, if you going for a certain size and all 3 did models with an engine, spec ect suited...what would make you choose a certain make, when they're all still French

They're reasonably intuitive to service, even newer ones.

Still think it was downhill after they went to multiplex, as the PSA multiplex is to my experience, less reliable than the Fiat group wiring. PSA have better plated bolts, though (seriously) - they corrode a lot less in hidden areas.

Homer, sorry but it is true. On the managed motorways (so m1 j13-6a) and a big chunk of the m25 has these cameras in.

Do you want to read what I actually wrote?

there are also cameras on the sections where there are variable speed limits but they are only active when the limit is reduced.

However there doesn't seem to be any hard evidence...

Generally any open - non public area in an industrial estate, not in use 24/7 will have barriers installed. Too many clubs using them as unofficial gathering points. They can spend thousands on car modifications but not a few quid on hiring a venue to show off.

I have acquired an ultra-sonic bath previously used for cleaning surgical instruments. Could I use this to clean the injectors from my 406? If so, what fluid would I use, and are there any special considerations for the needle lift sensor?
