Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I've looked in the testers manual , and I'm still trying to work out if it's a failure if a rear door won't open from the inside?

Berlingo rear passenger door doesn't. Doesn't bother me, as I have the child lock on anyway, but the internal link in the door is broken.

As some of you may know I sold my Zx16v a few months ago, I've considered getting an Alfa Romeo Gtv 6 or a V6 xantia but due to earache off swmbo I've held off. Another car I've always thought looked appealing was the peugeot 406 V6 coupe and after an autotrader search found one at Wakefield at a reasonable price. So Friday morning I had a run up...

Hey, do you remember me reporting back to you after collecting the Actia Diag2000 I won on ebay and we found it was missing the all-important connectors and all the consequent faffing around getting the pinouts so I could make my own?

Well I just stumbled across this pic of storage I never knew existed

and guess what I found in mine? #-o

These are the four new additions I found. Two have 16-pin OBD connector. Of those two, one is just an extension (you can plug it into itself) and the other has small round connector (like the one that plugs the harness tester into the bottom of the Diag2000) only smaller and presumably less pins.

When repairing an inner wing in the UK, are you allowed by insurers to short cut it?

I mean, butt weld a forward section rather than go back to wherever the spots are (presuming the spotwelds are not that close)? That is assuming it's not a high strength alloy pressing, of course. Like, on a Xantia, if you cut the inner wing vertically in line...

Interesting conclusion to this one.

I consulted the Thatcham's guide for the car in question, and it condones a shortcutting repair, very clearly describing a MIG constant seam weld to join a repair section cut from the factory serviced larger panel. For this situation, it saves a whole lot of grief including dash and outer A pillar removal....

The C5 seemed the natural progression from the Xantia and is coming into my price range. I have test-driven more C4's though as these seem the most popular. I've not considered anything smaller for a number of reasons (loading space mostly) but on the advice, I'll see if I can get a test drive.

Mike, they come back fully refurbished and indeed, as Steve say, the rubber bits are completely replaced with polyurethane.

I've just finished building up an XUD. I started with a block with a crank already installed (didn't disturb this as it was low mileage). Pistons and rings all went back into the same cylinders they came out of (everything was cleaned ultra sonically). New OE con rod shells were fitted. Everything lubed up with new engine oil when assembled and...

chaps, I need to do a CV boot on a 306 tomorrow.. TD..

I am faced with three choices..
a glue together
a pullover
or an OE ish item..

the latter requires taking the cv joint apart, and I can say that is a job I have never tried.. is it fairly straightforward? some circlip pliers, a drift and a few rollers falling out?
what would you go for?.....

With the Commonwealth games coming up The BBC News Website has a test to determine which sport you're best suited to.

I took the test and it turns out I'm best suited to Rugby Sevens :roll:

Ideally suited to lawn bowls. (I play skittles, it's just a bit noisier). Shooting is second choice. Last time I fired a shotgun I was knocked over backwards by the recoil. I was only 8 at the time. third choice, netball. I'd probably be ok if it was a ladies team.

I've now taken the XM off the road and taken it off insurance cover (transferred to the C1).

As cars have to be continuously insured and my XM is now not should I declare SORN?

Also, should I now cash in the tax disc or can I leave it and perhaps sell the remaining tax to an new owner?

Also you can access the MOT history online and print it out to take to the PO.
Some post people are quite benign and helpful. Others unfortunately...

or the previous owner could email you the MOT and you could run a copy off, as long as you print it in the original A4 format,

I've had a quick surf around, the item in question a pair of new towbars in Poland. Purchase plus freight to the UK is £130.

Seller suggested £600 post to Australia, I read that as CBF . :lol:

In the HMRC website's condensed tariff PDF there isn't a listing for towbars. That aside, I have no idea how much of a pain it is to receive goods from...

I have a 2005 Laguna dci, and something strange has happened to the aircon/climate controll. The climate was working and blowing nice and cold as when I parked the car up at 8pm last night. It was showing no signs of running outs of AC gas, from experience we know over maybe a week...

I'm replacing the inlet manifold gasket on the DRK - Renault 4, 1108cc engine, pushrod, alloy head.

1. What's the best way of removing the crud left behind by the old gasket?
2. Should I use a sealant with the new gasket (it goes metal-metal , i.e. The metal face of the gasket to the head? right?). If I need a sealant, then what...
