No droplink.

Post by daviemck2006 »

Guys, I am wondering if you guys think it is safe or not driving the car with the drop link totally removed on the passenger side? I don't really want to use the 205 for work tomorrow and have it stinking of fast food. Hopefully the new drop link arrives tomorrow then the problem is solved!

If you drive it sensibly I don't see why not, it will roll a bit but should ride nicely.

But do be very careful ;)

Personally I'd not.

I've driven 'round with a snapped one on mine for a short while in the past and not had any problems - I'd stick to slower town driving though !

I would for a one-off commute off main roads, in slow traffic.

And I would delete this thread in case something bad happened due to it being gone. ;)

Drove round for a while in a Xsara Pic with a snapped one without realising it, and also drove the Xantia for a while with a broken one (needs must and all that....) it was a) much quieter and b) rode much better!

Sounds like a good modification to do!!! Didn't it roll a bit though?

There's two ordered. I could take the other one off also. Then it would just be a bouncy front [emoji13]

I decided to use the 205 for work tonight. It's not so good for all town stuff with no power steering, and I have to use a key! That's the best bit of the Renault, the keyless entry and starting.

I have a key card, as soon as I put my hand on the door handle and it senses the card the car unlocks, and just foot on clutch press a big button and it starts. All with the card in my pocket. Push same big button to stop, open the door everything switches off, shut door and press a button on the door handle and it locks. It won't lock if the card falls out your pocket and is inside the car. It's more extraordinary that it all still works on a 10 year old Renault [emoji23]

What an excellent idea Davie...

I'd love that to bits.. I hate carrying loads of keys around...

I recall someone at one of my housemate's work getting caught out by this in one of their demo cars once. Was a case of meeting randomly in the car park and switching cars. They didn't realise until they stopped on the far side of town that the original driver still had the card in their pocket. Oops! Luckily all that was needed to sort that was a phone call, but apparently caused a bit of embarrassment and a telling off from the Tesco filling station folks for blocking off one of their pumps for 20 minutes (electronic parking brake won't disengage without the ignition being on apparently).

It's a clever idea, but I don't reckon I would trust it!
