I doubt the piece of plastic holding the cable to the floor will cause an issue with the air bag light, but an intermittent loose connection in the plug and socket almost certainly will. Check for a good electrical connection within. Look...

Hi all

Car went in for air con service yesterday as not getting cold.

Garage tested and compressor u/s replacement plus filter, parts, flush etc. looking at £700 - 800.

On a 2002 C5 I have to ask is there a cheaper alternative way for repair, quoted £400 for compressor, seen on ebay new patent £285 but still means a fair few £££'s to fork out...

Hello all this is my first post. Ive been looking at the site for a couple of days and decided to join today.

First off my problem lied with the aircon and fans cutting out. So i did the relay mod, which got the fans up and working plus the light for the aircon to go on.
Now the comppressor for the air con does not kick in when i press the button...

hi i have a 2.2 hdi serise 1 c5 with climate control wich is most unusual in that the drivers side will blow out what ever temp you set it for but the passangers side only blows hot air all the time no matter what temp you put it at this also happens when the air cons on anyone have any ideas :D

Need to get Juliet's A/C regassed, and her dryer is looking old and tired so I'd like to change that too.
So far I've only found ones for nearly £100, but I'm sure people reported getting them for closer to £30.

I have found error. It was little dificult, because it is not fabric a.c., but build after. That means that relays, and everything is NOT on place where is supoused to be... And diagrams from standard a.c. are not valid.
But, it helped that I had some diagrams from this forum, and started from that point. I have found relays, and one of them...

Never sectioned one but rumor has it that the dryer contains silica gel and when it gets saturated the containing bag bursts and the resultant mess gets spread all round the system. This then overloads the compressor and burns it out. Chances are the system is then inadequately flushed and the residual debris slowly works round the system then...

My Citroen garage tells me there's no gas in my AirCon system - suspect leak... However the cost to investigate, possibly repair, was quoted as an un-specified pile of cash.

My Xant 1.9TD Est has the heater fan problem so I rewired that last weekend (thanks to this forum) :lol: . I had to take the feed for the new relay from the Cigar Lighter after first changing the position of the fuse so that the Cigar lighter only works with the ignition on.

Today I've had the air con serviced £60 +VAT :D and now freezing cold...

Did you know that if you don't at least change your air con cabin filters once a year you could contract leigonnaires disease, it has flu like symptoms and is a form of Pneunomia.

Pretty sure 134a is still used, the replacements haven't been approved yet.
The important thing is the right oil is used when the system is serviced.
Chances are Citroen performed such a service, which involves vacuuming out the contents and regassing with new oil.
If there was the chance of a leak, I'd expect them to have told you.

Help, I went to kwik fit for an aircon regas and service thingy for £45. They connected my car up( the car was cooling and had gas in it, but I was giving it a treat. They said it would take 45 mins. After it was 'done' they said my system had a leak and their machine wouldnt regas the system.....now I have a hot interior......

As i believe my air con is buggered, i think its the clutch on the compressor as i hear a kind of metal on metal noise when i start it or turn it off. It was only regassed recently (ie 1 month)
I am thinking of getting a new compressor, does it matter which one or are they inter changeable? (xantia mk 2 1.9td)

You guys are just guessing until you can get some guages onto that system. If the center of the compressor refuses to pin... Does the clutch have power ?? If so, yep the compressor clutch is dead. If not, I find it more likely the system has leaked it's refrigerant out.

Halfruads aircon Kit is what i've used with no issues.
Obviously not as good as vacuming out the system but has sufficed in my last few xantias with AC and the pressure guage has packed up but i'll replace that soon. The cans can be quite cheap as well so if its only a topup its good and helps you find the leak as well to DIY fix if wanted?

First of all hello to everyone as I am a newbie to the site.

I have a 99 Xsara 2.0 HDI 90 SX and the air con is confusing me...firstly when you hit the button, the light comes on but won't stay lit. This has obviously been like it for some time, as there are marks round the button, where the previous owner has used something to 'wedge' the switch...

Thanks for the feedback...It turned out to be the alternator that was making the noise, not the A/C compressor!!! So wasted money there. And as regards the A/C switch light not staying on, I have found the the switch does not disengage correctly, I found the best way to deal with this is to 'flick' my finger off the switch and the switch pops...

For that price it was'nt worth buying a can from Halfords and doing it myself. Probably the cheapest anywhere. I have a seized compressor (believed to have last been used in 2002) and who knows what other faults in the A/C system that I would like to repair, if possible.

HI all hope someone can help, my air con was working last week no probs then today switched it on,no cold air the light comes on on the switch inside the car.
the compressor is not engaging and the rad fan is not coming on either.i ran the temp up and the fan cuts in as normal

I had my system gassed in the summer of 2006, however last summer on our annual trip to Devon the A/C was non-existent. I have noticed a lot of frothing in the receiver dryer, so I assume that the system is empty. Any advice would be appreciated.

Approx 2 years is the reccomended re-charge period to keep it all working well, but if it has lost all the gas I would suspect a leak in the condensor (the rad in front of the rad).

The correct way to service aircon is to suck the system to a vacum, then hold it for about 1/2 hour and see if the gauge moves to test for leaks, then the correct...

Blower Stays on

Hi All,

I have an Year 2002 peugot 406 HDI where recently the blower fan started to remain on. I changed the blower control module in the center dash but it made no difference. When I had this module fully disconnected it was still blowing. It appears that the fan is controlled through the ignition switch.
Any ideas why it remains on ?

Maybe try moving the speed slider quickly through its entire range several times to dislodge any dust causing dead spots, like clearing static from audio volume controls.
If that doesn’t help, squirting WD 40 into the slider may help.
If not, then it’s the climate ECU’s turn.

Aircon keeps turning on and off

My aircon has been playing up. The 'clutch' has been clicking on and off when i turn the aircon on. I have chacked and it all seems ok. Now, I have looked at so many posts about xantia aircon, and have connected two wires that go to the aircon pump together. The pump now switches on and off as needed with the switch on the dash and the cooling...

As Alan states shorting out safety high pressure switches is a BIG NO NO !!!

only do this for a few seconds otherwise you could cause major damage to the A/C system and more importantly YOURSELF.

Compressor repairs

I have a Sanden SD709 compressor off a BX that has leaking shaft seals.

About 8 years ago I had this job done on another compressor by a reconditioning firm in Feltham. They are no longer there. Anyone know of a company that might be able to do a recon job on this compressor for me.

Feedback.

Garage did the job while we were on our hols. Thankfully the rest of the pipes were in good condition so just (?) a new condensor and re-gas.

They took the rad out for access. Charged 2.5hrs but it took longer.

Anyway nice to have it blowing cold.... especially as the sun has appeared!

the air mixture flap on my air con has failed so it blows air at at any temp it feels like (which is a bit dispiriting in the summer)

i really cant face stripping the dashboard etc out to get at the flap and was trying to think of a another bodge

i am now considering the heater hoses running into the matrix if i disconnected them from the matrix...

I regassed my MkII Xantia aircon and the valve nearest to the radiator is the low pressure. It has a larger valve too.

Check the 30 amp fuses in the black box above the nearside wheel arch. They usually blow with cooling fan problems.

I found with my old 405td that the wiring below one of the relays had begun rotting. This was causing the Bitron unit to receive all sorts of weird and wonderful signals. Hacking the rotten wiring back a little and ensuring good...

when i first got my car the aircon wasn't working and there were loads of bubbles in the sight glass so i paid to have it re gassed the problem is it just doesn't seem very cold, my wife has a ford focus and the aircon on there gets much colder, is there anything i can check, i know absolutely nothing about aircon all i know is that the sight...

Hand in front of air outlet grille, fan should kick off within a few seconds and air should be feeling very cold within one to two minutes.
Do a check on the air bubbles in the receiver/dryer as well as feeling the pipes going to ythe condensor. One of them will be hot to hold with a couple of minutes, which is when the cold air is flowing over...

Hi everyone,

My air-con isn't getting cold. I've read through some posts and have checked that the thick wires on the connector going to the dryer with viewing glass are closed-circuit - which they are - and that the radiator fans are spinning when the air-con button is pressed - which they are.

There's a click and a grumble from the engine as...

There is no cold air coming out. Also when aircon button is pressed the compressor does not kick in.

There is a pressure switch on top of the receiver dryer that prevents the compressor from operating in the event of too little gas or too much pressure, so if the system is dry, it will operate once the system has been recharged.
If the gas is gone, there is a leak that must be found preferrably prior to regassing and these are usually evidenced...

I don't know about C5's but on a Xantia when the heater is set to recycle the intake opens a flap just below the windscreen on the N/S so that air is drawn in from under the glovebox. There is no way you could point a hose into it unless you take the whole dash out.

You might be best putting the fan on its lowest setting then directing the hose...

I suspect that the wiring that enters the aircon compressor is damaged. I would like to know it it's possible to dismantle the clutch without depressurizing the system or removing the compressor?

Thank you Alan. I already did that, as the connector was pretty banged up. I tought I had it solved, aircon worked fine for a week, then it started failing again.

So I move to the next possible culprit, the wiring entering the compressor as it isn't held by anything (no tie wraps) and it dangles a lot.
