Leigonnaires Disease & Air Con filters.

Unread post by falling-out-with-my-car »

Did you know that if you don't at least change your air con cabin filters once a year you could contract leigonnaires disease, it has flu like symptoms and is a form of Pneunomia.

Smokers & people with respitory conditions ie asthma are more suseptable to contracting Leigonnaires Disease.

certain conditions increase the risk of contracting the disease.

1) a suitable temperature for growth 20 to 45 degrees C.
2) a source of nutrients for the organism, sludge, mud, rust or organic matter.
3) A way of spreading and creating breathable droplets ie Air conditioning.
symptoms High temperature, fever & chills. a cough muscle pains and headache. some patients suffer disorentation and confusion.
Not everyone exposed to the disease contracts the disease and you cannot spread it from person to person, so if your considering a long journey this summer and you haven't changed the pollen filter in your car for a while consider buying a new one, you never know it might save your life.

I'm not an expert in car aircon, but I am trained in Legionella management and prevention (ACOP L8 ). And what you've posted is absolute nonsense!

Legionnaires' Disease occurs when Legionella bacteria grow, usually in a warm, static water source, and are distributed when said water is sprayed finely (known as an aerosol, but not from a can!). You've more danger of catching it from your shower after you've been on holiday for a couple of weeks than you ever will from your car.

I may have a French car but I never carry Legionnaires.
They can damned well march wherever they need to go.
And forget.

I don't know what was funnier the original posting by "Falling out with my car" (he cannot be serious) or the posting by "myglaen"
