French Car Forum

The forum was offline for a few hours while I was investigating an obscure networking issue that is causing unreliable connection for a (very) few users.

Sadly I didn't track down the issue yet, I am not sure if it is our software, or something in the KVM or networking configuration of our service provider.

I will be doing more work on this, but...

Just in case anyone thinks it's a Forum issue, there's a bug with the latest Brave Browser as of 8th Feb 2025 that can cause the mouse to disappear or odd cursor behaviour, including selection / pointer issues.

It has been widely reported and turning off Hardware / graphics acceleration may help.

Just posting this in case people think it's a...

In the last couple of days, whenever I swipe down the screen to refresh the forum page on my Android phone I get this pop up interrupting the refresh. It doesn't happen on any other forum or when I refresh the screen using F5 on my laptop. It's a real annoyance and I would like it to go away. Is...

Is there a problem with the ServiceBox website these days? I would like to purchase a token, but I can't find the page, and I can't log in either.

Thank you

Still no Like button! I'm outraged that we are expected to articulate our impressions, rather than just click an icon...
You may notice that like buttons have appeared at the top right hand side of forum posts, and there is an extra summary box appearing at the top of the index page and forum pages.

Following a successful roll-out on BXC, I have...

Has anyone in the Manchester area got a working Diagbox that could call and plug it into my Citroen DS5 hybrid to discover what fault I have on the reversing sensors which has shut off completely?
I live in Urmston Manchester

Over the next month I will need to take the forum offline a few times in preparation to a move to a new hosting company. The current company has been providing very good service at a good price for the last 10 years, but have decided to shut down rather than upgrade to more modern hardware.

We have selected a new hosting company which has offered...

An email notification dropped in my inbox a few minutes ago with a link to the Some simple recipes....etc topic, and a post from Dormouse, When I followed it I landed on Dormouse's last post about modifying his second burgers which he posted on 4th November. Just thought I'd mention it in case the system has had a hiccup. :)

The forum has been running very slowly at times this morning. The server load is very high, but it appears to be due to web traffic which is directed to another site which runs on the same server.

I hope that the issue is now resolved, but bear with us if there are some ongoing problems.

You can see that the server loading has been spiking...

This forum was offline for several hours due to a server disk space issue. Preliminary findings are that this was due to a log file runaway, but there don't seem to be any lasting effects.
I will be investigating further.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

....err........are there any? :-D

I tried to message a forum member earlier (lunchtime), and it made it as far as my Outbox.....where it's sat ever since. My message did contain a link to an image on my Google Drive, so I wondered if that might have a bearing. I decided I'd message Steve (Myglaren) to ask.......and whilst *that* message is not...

The anomaly has now corrected itself please ignore the stuff in the spoiler. :-D

This is trivial but anomalous.

Recently I have been having an odd situation with regard to following posted links. I have discovered that if I go to an external link eg, the link in my most recent post , on using my back button to return to the FCF from the linked site I find myself logged off and have to login again ? It has probably been happening for the last 6 to 8 weeks...

I've noticed that members locations etc. are now not shown on their posts.
Have I missed something re. this?
Shame if it's permanent 'cos I always found it interesting to see the varied worldwide places that folk seeking info. come from & gave the forum a real cosmopolitan feeling.

I intend to do a software upgrade which requires taking the forum off-line for an hour or so. I will do this between the hours of 5am and 7am UK time (not sure which day).

Have a quick watch of this and you may want to take part in the survey as it could mean changes to VED status and having a 'Q' plate assigned:

I just wanted to raise awareness of members with classic vehicles, who may wish to contribute to the survey, as it is time-limited.

The link to the info and survey is

Due to excessive server loading caused by some badly behaved 'bots' (automated content collectors), I have changed the anti-ddos settings on the site to be much more aggressive.

This has had the desired effect of reducing the server loading from 100% to about 10% (the other 90% was coming from just 8 IP addresses located in China).

There may...

Can this be made easy and obvious from the normal posting screen :?:

POTD has had a recent dalliance into such matters summarised in my post here

If participation is to be encouraged, and most people take pics with their mobile devices uploading those pics to a forum post should be easy to do and obvious from the normal posting screen. Anyway...

Please note that I have updated the article on Stellantis Engine Oils as of February 2024.

It is important to note that due to issues with the EB2 Engines, and DV5 engines as 2 examples, specifications of oil and grade have been changed. These 2 examples concern the 'Belt in Oil' system of the EB2 engines and the Camshaft Chain on DV5 engines,...

Over the last 36 hours we have had 3 instances of undesirable spam messages being posted on this forum.

We don't usually get a huge number, and the usual MO is for a spammer to create a new account and post a spam message as their first post. We have several protection mechanisms (automated and manual) to catch such posts before they become...

I just purchased new front spheres for my 1997 Xantia V6 Activa : I checked the pressures they came with : 700 PSI / 48 BAR . What are the correct pressures for my Xantia?
I have found a page in french that shows 40/45 BAR but what does that really mean? and then there are 2 numbers beside that :+5 and below that -20 and below that 0.7 in red. I...

The forum will be off-line for a few hours in the early morning (UK time) to allow some database maintenance. I expect this to be in the window 02:00 to 05:00.

I have made some updates to the forum templates and .css to fix a couple of minor bugs and for compatibility with the current version of the forum software.

There should be no noticeable changes, please report anything that looks strange.

The forum had an outage that was caused by the hosting company taking down a number of sites for emergency maintenance.

As there was no sign of the server coming back after several hours, I decided to move the forum to a new server which we have been preparing for this purpose.

As the forum database was restored from the daily backup files, some...

Sorry for the brief outage this morning when this forum was replaced by an old image of the BXC forum...

I saved a test file to the wrong place on the server.

Some people just cant be trusted with with a file editor.

https scored out in red today and a message about the connection being insecure, because certificates could not be validated as they come from eastment.net.

I received this recently:

Take into account that this is the number of times that FCF has appeared in a Google search, AND the FCF link has been clicked.

The 'PSA Recommended Engine Oil' guide that I put up on the Forum Wiki many years ago needed updating to account for the latest engines.

This guide also includes Yunnei, Toyota, Mitsubishi, FIAT, PUMA & SOFIM engines used on some PSA vehicles.
The guide is far more comprehensive and details each of the specific countries that PSA class as , & to...

Trying to add a picture on the POTD I encountered an error 'attachment quota reached'

Hi all,

I have purchased an old Clarion radio on eBay and looking for the radio code. I don't have the vin number, just the radio serial number. I have tried some providers and they either don't have it or it look proper dodgy, spoken to peugeot and they can't help without the vin number.

Any ideas welcome :)

I intend to reboot the forum server tomorrow morning (about 7am) following a server kernel update. This should take less than 10 minutes.
I may also take the forum offline in the evening for some server testing (this may be moved to a later date, depending on my schedule).

I used this thread to highlight unusual viewer numbers on the FCF.

Probably should have been in this section. Mike picked up on previous notifications and concluded the activity seemed to be coming from Hong Kong bots.

Another all-time record set today.

Good Morning,
My name is Pete and I am brand new to this forum this morning so please excuse any newbie mistakes or lack of info on my part.
My car is a 2011 Citroen C4 Grand Picasso HDI VTR+ EGS 7 seater. VIN No. VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] UA9HR8 BJ600418. I believe it is a 1.6 HDI 110.
The car has not been used very much at all in the last 2 months as I have not...

I need to take the forum offline to do some testing over the next few days.
I expect that there will be a couple of outages, each of about 30 minutes, but I am not sure exactly when they will be.
This is preparation for a fairly major hardware and software upgrade which is a few weeks away.

I need to take the site offline a few times to prepare for moving to a new server.

Expect the site to be locked, or completely down from midnight to 5am (GMT) any night for the next week.

I will update this when the work is complete.

Wondering if I'm missing something obvious here...

I've got a long running fleet blog, and the title has historically been changed now and then to reflect vehicles that have come and gone.

Pretty sure this used to be done just by editing the first post in the thread...but I can't for the life of me find the option to edit older posts now. Are...

Did something change in the structure of the forum overnight? I updated my Windows 8.1 and then this morning attempted to view the forum on my preferred browser IE11 (I know, I know. Don't nag). I couldn't get anything to come up at all and am now having to use Chrome to access the forum.

We have been made a ware of a supplier of reproduced car parts no longer made by the manufacturers that members may find useful - including hydraulic pipes etc.

I've put a post on this in the recommended garages section as it seemed the most sensible place - but we have no personal experience of using them as of this post date.

When a member makes a Paypal donation, their membership status is updated (green user name) and they get access to the restricted Resources forum. This normally happens automatically, thanks to some clever software which links the Paypal notification to our forum database.

Unfortunately Paypal changed something a couple of weeks ago, and the...

Was their a widespread outage on the FCF today, or was it restricted to Me and Steve in the Tyneside/Northumberland area?

Mick seems to have been posting in that period I think when it was down for us.

As well as not being able to access www.frenchcarforum.co.uk, all the search engines (bing/google/duckduckgo were ones I tried) all lost any...

I’m trying to access FCF and BX Club forums but cannot get connected when connected to my VPN. I don’t think it has been an issue until now. Has something changed on the forum side recently that would block this.

I’m using NordVPN and a UK server.

is currently offline, due to a DNS configuration issue. I have had no contact form the administrators of that site, so I don't know when it will be back.

If you have any more information, please share it here.

If a forum user makes too many failed login attempts they will be presented with some Captcha puzzles to solve to prove that they are not a robot.

We have recently seen a case where the Captcha puzzles were impossible to solve, apparently because the user had a username that contained letter groups with spaces between them.

If you find yourself...
