French Car Forum

Over the next month I will need to take the forum offline a few times in preparation to a move to a new hosting company. The current company has been providing very good service at a good price for the last 10 years, but have decided to shut down rather than upgrade to more modern hardware.

An email notification dropped in my inbox a few minutes ago with a link to the Some simple recipes....etc topic, and a post from Dormouse, When I followed it I landed on Dormouse's last post about modifying his second burgers which he posted on 4th November. Just thought I'd mention it in case the system has had a hiccup. :)

The forum has been running very slowly at times this morning. The server load is very high, but it appears to be due to web traffic which is directed to another site which runs on the same server.

I hope that the issue is now resolved, but bear with us if there are some ongoing problems.

You can see that the server loading has been spiking...

This forum was offline for several hours due to a server disk space issue. Preliminary findings are that this was due to a log file runaway, but there don't seem to be any lasting effects.
I will be investigating further.

Recently I have been having an odd situation with regard to following posted links. I have discovered that if I go to an external link eg, the link in my most recent post , on using my back button to return to the FCF from the linked site I find myself logged off and have to login again ? It has probably been happening for the last 6 to 8 weeks...

I've noticed that members locations etc. are now not shown on their posts.
Have I missed something re. this?
Shame if it's permanent 'cos I always found it interesting to see the varied worldwide places that folk seeking info. come from & gave the forum a real cosmopolitan feeling.

I intend to do a software upgrade which requires taking the forum off-line for an hour or so. I will do this between the hours of 5am and 7am UK time (not sure which day).

Due to excessive server loading caused by some badly behaved 'bots' (automated content collectors), I have changed the anti-ddos settings on the site to be much more aggressive.

This has had the desired effect of reducing the server loading from 100% to about 10% (the other 90% was coming from just 8 IP addresses located in China).

I have purchased an old Clarion radio on eBay and looking for the radio code. I don't have the vin number, just the radio serial number. I have tried some providers and they either don't have it or it look proper dodgy, spoken to peugeot and they can't help without the vin number.

I need to take the forum offline to do some testing over the next few days.
I expect that there will be a couple of outages, each of about 30 minutes, but I am not sure exactly when they will be.
This is preparation for a fairly major hardware and software upgrade which is a few weeks away.

I need to take the site offline a few times to prepare for moving to a new server.

Expect the site to be locked, or completely down from midnight to 5am (GMT) any night for the next week.

I will update this when the work is complete.

Did something change in the structure of the forum overnight? I updated my Windows 8.1 and then this morning attempted to view the forum on my preferred browser IE11 (I know, I know. Don't nag). I couldn't get anything to come up at all and am now having to use Chrome to access the forum.

We have been made a ware of a supplier of reproduced car parts no longer made by the manufacturers that members may find useful - including hydraulic pipes etc.

I've put a post on this in the recommended garages section as it seemed the most sensible place - but we have no personal experience of using them as of this post date.

I have seen some error messages indicating that the forum http server process has been crashing, but there is no record of that in the actual server logs.

I think that this is a phantom error resulting from a recent update of the server software, but would like to know if these errors were visible to users.

I have updated the style component of the forum software. There should be practically no visible change as a result of this, but it is a prerequisite to a larger upgrade that I will be doing in a few weeks time.
