Renault Megane Coupe 2000 Y-registration - headlight calibration
I have just installed a new offside front headlight to my car. The problem is that it isn't calibrated correctly. I know they have electronic adjust but this just seems to make the problem worse. Does anyone know how to manually adjust the level of the beam so that it matches...

i just like to let you know i got problem fixed it was the diesel primer it was faulty and i put a rubber hand primer same as the 106 in far better job than the orginal primer

The only way you can program the key is to have a transponder key coding unit with the relevant software. Only Meganes require access codes so it should be easy to program your key using a third party. Have you tried a local garage who specialise in just this? You should pay no more than £10 because it only takes them 2 seconds to 'blip' your car...

Anyone had experience of removing a headlight unit from a Clio 1997 Phase 3? The Haynes manual says I need to take off the bonnet and also the front bumper to access the unit which I think looks a little too much work considering all the bolts are accessable.

Im told that the L - reg renault Clio 1.9 Diesel has a Peugeot engine in it, can anyone confirm this and tell me which engine it is (ie is it an XUD or something later?).

HI, I dont know what else youve done, but I would think you need to start checking voltages....ie, reference volts to sensors etc (5v)
Possible thoughts would be Fuel pump/inj. relay - 2nd, Water temp, thermistor....

Hiya,,, Its not a terribly difficult job but a bit fiddly.
You have to jack up the engine off its mounting ( cam belt side ) front wheel, belts, Centre crank bolt, t belt covers ( obviously!)-- time it up to TDC - mark on bottom toothed sprocket aligns in 6 0'clock position with mark.. cam mark aligns at 12 0'clock with casting line on engine.. *...

Tyres, check them for bulges and out of round, jack it up and get someone to turn the wheels as you watch them go round, if you try and turn them your self while watching for irregularities, you wont see any, your eye needs to be still.
If they look ok the other most likely cause is the inboard driveshaft joint's, with the car out of gear look for...

Changed the N/S front wheel bearing on my phase 2 5 gt turbo, and noticed about and inch or more of play in the driveshaft back and fourth within the diff housing, does any one know if this is common or is something pissed up. Cheers.

well this could be a tricky one but lets have a look see - likage is now usualy electronic so you could look at the connections, some have a vacume pipe system like the mercs this could be your problem but not 100% - check the sides of the gear box on one side you will find the wire harness which is for the selector on the other side there should...

I need new discs and pads on a '98 Grand espace 2.2 DT. Do the calipers ahve to come off to replace the pads? Does anyone know if this is straightforward or not. Are there any springs, bolts etc which need to be replaced at the same time?

Try checking the Distributor cap - my Citroen AX does this every Autumn/Winter. Traced my problem to condensation build up inside cap. If anything looks like it's corroded inside cap just buy a new one.
Could also be fuel supply as you say no smell of petrol - check fuel pump, carb idle jet, air filter for leaves blocking it etc.

Just an update. Decided to change n/s wheel bearing as it had signs of overheating & pit marks. But still didn't solve the weird vibration. The offside driveshaft's balance weight was in the wrong position, but when moved back still didn't sort. Reckon this may have caused inner joint to wear over time due to being out of balance - looks like it's...

Could be an exhaust shield - look at the one on the front pipe. It could be a cracked front pipe under the manifold - very hard if not impossible to see as the heat shield covers the area which can crack - may need removal to inspect.

ive never heard of a chain driven cam not haveing a tentioner it would be hydrolic on the side of the engine near the timming chain usualy a large aprox 24mm bolt it would be very difficult to change the chain otherwise i could be wrong though without checking but both symtoms could cause the rattle you could use a long screwdriver place it on the...

If the knock wasn't there before you started the work then I would go back to the injectors, sounds like one is sticking open.
I had one do it on a Mercedes van, made a hell of a racket when given the slightest bit of clogg.

Sounds like a wheel bearing for sure. worsening on LH bends suggests it's a RH one, but jack up and check every wheel (noise can confuse where it's coming from!). Some roughness should be apparent if it's making noise all the time - if not you'll have to put up with it until you can find enough play to diagnose it. It'll fail an MOT if there's...

Gearbox may need looking at - have you tried re-ligning the clamp on the gear selector rod to the gearbox? If it's a bit out it could mean 5th doesn't engage correctly.

Unless one actually see's the problem it's difficult to advise, but there may be other solution's, one may be to drill out the offending thread and insert a captive nut often refered to as a pop nut because it is similar in action to a pop rivet.
Or it may be possible to drill out and re-tap with a larger diameter thread.

Hi Graham - It's probably held on with four or five sticky pads. It will come away if you pull, starting at one end and levering with one hand behind the plate.

Sounds like the light indicating a problem with the engine management system to me? Could be a problem or simply a dodgy sensor. I suggest seeking professional advice in the form of a diagnostic check if she's that far away.

I don't know if the Laguna has a clutch adjustment or not, but the symptoms you describe are classic slipping clutch. I wouldn't lose too much sleep about the gearbox as the problems the car is displaying should disappear once the clutch is sorted.
