But thats a serious problem. You will need professional assistance to get it going again. Please dont try the car anymore, as there are large riscs you introduce even more damage to the autobox.
My guess is the converter (hydraulic variable clutch) has failed for any reason.

The other day the toxic fume monitoring warning light came on and is on constantly. I haven't driven it other than to see if it will go off and driving with the windows open.

I keep getting a warning displayed in the dashboard stating fault in fuel injection it only happens now and again aminly in the mornings. There is a dramatic loss of power when this happens.

Hi, I can't select reverse gear on my 1999 Scenic.
The small cable which connects the lift collar on the gearstick is snapped.
To fit a new one is it necessary to get the car up on ramps? Where does the other end of this cable connect to?

Problem is the high friction with dry glass on rubber.

Using cotton sticks lightly oil the bottom of the guide channels and any free edges of the window glass (not the upper channel/edge though :wink: ). Then work the windows up & down a few times.

hi, i'v recently got a diesel turbo laguna (96), & i'v noticed liquid leaking on the top of the engine. first i thought it was the water pump leaking but i'v realised it smells of diesel. it seems to be in all the injector seats so i guess its an injector leaking.

Of course all doors should lock by the central locking - either by remote or key - even in a Rain-old :wink:

To my best - this is not a specific, but very common, problem you are looking at : chafed or broken wires in the bellow leading to the drivers door.
Think about the abuse these wires have to take over the days and years ...

Hi Everyone.

I just got a renault megane with the cdi engine on an x reg.

The clock shows 92k, the timing belt was changed at 72k.

I spoke to the garage who carried it out and they said that only the belt was changed.

Seems odd that they didn't fit the full kit.

Is this usual and will the tensioners last or I am best off getting it done...

I have searched many forums to see if anyone else had this problem and found nothing - the other day, right before going on a long road trip, we re-set our tripometer and turns out this also automatically re-sets the fuel range counter that tells you how soon you need to fill up! Since the counter was re-set, it spent the next 5-10 mins...

But running flat by slowly loosing the voltage on the battery while ignition is on, is not exactly the same as removing the battery while ignition is off.

At least seen from the electronics point of view.

Can anyone help. The battery on my renault megane had to be disconnected. Every time i now stop the engine the radio stops working and i have to recode each time i get in the car. This didn't happen before. It should save the code even after the engine is stopped. What can the problem be?

In both cases there is a settings data memory keep alive feed that somehow has been lost. I dont know where to look for such a problem.
But check the fuses. Its likely to be a fuse when more electrical funtions have been lost.

2000 Renault ESpace - ABS fault

Hi there!

I have a 2000 Espace 2.0, 16v and the ABS warning light stays on permanently. Where the clock and temp are usually displayed it now says STOP all the time.

The brakes work perfectly and just last week the car passed its MOT. I am guessing that there is a fault with one of the wheel sensors but how can I check that relatively quickly...

That's not a very good design. My experience of alarm circuits is that they are normally closed and go into alarm when the circuit is opened. That way if there is a break in the wiring you get an indication of a fault.

Never mind though I'm not bothered about the brake pad wear indicators. You are right on the alarm circuit...

Hi all, Mrs Bob has the 1.5dci cleo, and it has recently been failing to start.

Symptons are;

Turn key....nothing, not even a click from the solenoid, it will do this for 3-5 try,s and then start as normal.

Took it to loacal garage who said that the cleos suffer from water ingress to the ecu, and as it happens the sun roof has been leaking for...

laguna 20 16v rxe likes a drop of oil after about eight months after a service the oil tends to go down and needs topping up.
i don't do many miles a week only about 100 on averaged. but just returning from holiday and covering 2000 miles it drank 1 1/2 litres of oil over the week is this some think to worry about. :?

Anyone know how to test the coils on a petrol engine.
They are the ones which have a seperate coil on each spark plug.
I checked the resistance, but it's an open circuit I think as there is no reading on any coil.
BOL said to do what I did.

Electric Mirrors on a mark 1 Laguna

I have recently purchased an N reg Laguna 1.8 RN, the car came with manual mirrors but I discovered the wiring was present in the doors for the electric mirrors. I have recently fitted a pair of electric mirrors and the switch but I can't get them to work!!!

I haven't had time to put a multimeter on yet to see if there is power to the switch....

Electric Window Problem on 04 Megane

Hi all. I'm hoping someone can help me with this. Its my brother-in-laws 04 megane. His drivers side electric window doesn't work. I've checked it and there is power going to the motor and to the switch, although I had to clean up the terminals on the swithch, corroded quite badly so obviously have been getting wet.

Just bridge the switch connections. You will (must) have +12V and earth in to the switch - and the 2 motor terminals out from the switch.
The polarity to the motor terminals simply selects the window winding direction.
Dont panic on messing around with the wires, the circuit is protected by a fuse - howver be ready to locate and replace it with...

PROBLEM
Very poor starting and very smokey when the engine starts

SOLUTION
Bad earth connection in engine bay. Open the bonnet and look high right in the engine bay you will see a black box about 7 inches long, 2 inches high about 2 inches deep with a couple of thick red cables and several thinner ones to it. This is your glow plug relay box....

No question to ask as I found the problem but wanted to tell everyone else.

Megane Scenic Gear Selection Problem!

This fault is on a Megane Scenic where the car cannot now select reverse!

I have previously driven this car, and it was O.K.

Looking under the bonnet I can see that the selector mechanism at the gearbox end is under the car.

I checked under the gaiter, and can see that there is a wire which is operated by the mechanism, that you operate to...

Renult 19 oil question

Hi all. My friend has just picked up a clean 1992 1.9d renault 19.
Will it run ok on cooking oil? Is there any problem areas on these cars to keep an eye out for? It had a headgasket replacement about 2 1/2 years ago so that should be sweet. Any help much apreciated

The renault diesel engine is different from the PSA XU diesel engines.
But still - if it sports ye good ole Bosch diesel pump it will be happy on fish & chips or french fries :D

Clio Wiper Bay Drain

The drain hole in the scuttle area where the wiper motor is, has a pipe with a plastic arrangement inserted. I have had to poke around to loosen dirt which was blocking the drain and i have disturbed the plastic insert in this pipe, what does this thing do anyone?

The radio is stuck on one station no matter ow many buttons are pressed it will not budge, it will turn on and off and thought about disconnecting the battery but as i have no code it would add further problems.Any help would be appreciated as although i like some classical music but would not mind a change now and then.

Very involved but not that difficult if you are competent mechanically.
Just one thing, the Haynes manual description for a cam belt change for the F4R engine(Scenic& I thinkt he Clio sport is similar if not the same) is about 9? :shock: pages where as for our 1998 Xsara the description was less than one page :lol:

My first suggestion would be an engine flush and oil and filter change.
I assume the engine should be running a 10w-30 and someone has used something thicker. These engines run hydraulic tappets and these work best with a thinner oil.
Oh, is the noise louder at start up? If so, almost certainly oil incompatibility
