my radio stops working when the engine is turned off

Unread post by margie2 »

Can anyone help. The battery on my renault megane had to be disconnected. Every time i now stop the engine the radio stops working and i have to recode each time i get in the car. This didn't happen before. It should save the code even after the engine is stopped. What can the problem be?

Seems your radio has lost the "keep-alive" +12V feed. This is a connection that keeps the radio memory alive to remember the settings and code.
My first thought a fuse has blown for any reason.

Or you simply dont use the correct code memorising procedure on your radio. It would be in your owners manual (of the car).

Hi

Thanks for your comments

I use the procedure as set out in the users manual and i have checked with the Renault help line who assure me i am doing it right, but it still loses its memory when switched off. I noticed this am the comp showing miles to next fill up etc is also going back to 0 when the engine is switched off. Is it all connected and how do i repair the fault ?

In both cases there is a settings data memory keep alive feed that somehow has been lost. I dont know where to look for such a problem.
But check the fuses. Its likely to be a fuse when more electrical funtions have been lost.

Sorry I cant help further on this matter.
