if it is a transponder key then they are expensive to buy and they have to be coded.as far as i know the only way to do this is using the peugeot computer.at least it shows that the secrurity is reasonable.

I need a spare key for my 405 but according to the dealer it will cost close to £90. I thought forget the electronic devices, I can get a plain key cut for a fiver. Whether or not this is possible, I couldn't really say, but it would certainly involve a hell of work and a lot of new parts, probably for very little gain. The hubs and bearings are different. Also the wheel cylinders on the drum brakes contain regulating valves. On disc brake models, a load sensitive regulating valve is fitted in the hydraulic...

Rather unlikely. Personally, I'd make sure the air filter was clean, put a double measure of Millers Dieselclean or Diesel Redex in the tank and take the car for a thrashing up a motorway. Make sure the engine is well up to temperature before retesting.

My Pug 306td (97 on p reg with 75K on it) has unexpectedly failed it's MOT on an emissions failure.
The chap behind the counter swore blind that it was the EGR valve that needed to be disconnected.
I was dubious-and checking through the haynes manual it states that their is no info available on this device at time of press!

I've got a 2000, pug 406 break SV. With a lot of electrical problems . One problem is solved with the info on the forum . Had the airbag light on. It's solved by spraying some contact spray on the yellow plugs just below the seats.

No you won’t be able to use any remote with your IR receiver.
The key fobs & receiver are a matched set for security reasons. Replacement fobs are around £70 each from pug.
Don't assume that because the receiver is wired up it is functioning correctly. It could be the receiver is at fault and the original keys/transmitters have been lost and...

I would say you have rust in the tracks(happend on my BX, I did not use it much at the time). Try getting some WD40 in the tracks. You may have to remove the glass. If you remove the motor cover & motor, as well as the glass, you may be able to slide the cables back and forth in the tracks and find the problem.

I havn't used the sunroof on my 405 since last summer. Now with the hot weather, I went to open it and I've found that its jammed shut. The motor whirrs but the glass will only budge about 0.5cm up the back to its start position. Took the switch housing off, disconected the link rod and tried winding the roof manually using the allen key provided...

my 95 zx has similar problem which developed all of sudden. This has been put down to wear in the steering rack which causes the inner track rod ends to move about only up and down, but doesnt seem to have caused any side to side movement at the front wheels

Maybe a tube over the end of the key might help giving an extra bit of leverage?.. or maybe a sharp hit on the head of the allan bolt to maybe crack the threads, or try tightening the bolt slightly to again crack the threads... if not careful application of heat from a blow lamp, but be careful with it as blowlamps and exposed flames are a bit...

Sounds like you had fun Phil!!!
It's a bit late now, But!!! I find using a few sissor jacks works a
treat, you can just jack up all of the exhaust in place then seal
and bolt when your ready.

It still looks as though you have a duff battery. It's so duff that it won't accept a charge. If the car starts readily on a jump start, there can't be much wrong with anything else. When you get the new battery on it, check that the output of the alternator is correct.

Batteries can suddenly die. Two years ago, in Italy, I drove my Xantia all morning, parked in a supermarket carpark for half an hour, came out and tried to start. Nothing - battery completely flat. I think my alarm control unit is dying for my factory fitted alarm on my 1995 306. Basically the lights and indicators come on and off by themselves. I have removed the fuse and it doesnt happen any more but this means the alarm isnt on and I cant use my plipper :(

Engine running OK, battery light started to glow slightly, no indicators working, lights & horn OK. Engine continued no problems.
When footbrake used, battery light glowed full, and fuel guage zeroed, until pedal released. Then continued to glow slightly.

My 405 did the same, turned out to be a dodgey locking unit on the drivers door,
changed it and never had the problem again, have you tried getting in the car and
manualy pushing down the locks?

Ever since I've had my 306, the central locking has been bouncing intermittantly. As soon as it's locked it unlocks itself automatically. It does it both with the key and the plipper.

Try taking the pads out and cleaning everything up.
The noise is caused by the pads moving in the housing. If everything is put on correctly and the pads are the right size it shouldn't happen.
I used to use copper grease on the backs of brake pads but I'm not sure how recomended it is.

Another little problem on my 406 coupe!
The button to the right of the steering colum which allows you to turn off the interior movemment sensors is permanently lit with a constant red light.
It does not flash when the alarm is set and the car locked and deadlocked. Nothing changes when i press the button either.

You'll need to examine the door and hinge and decide where the movement is coming from. The hinges are welded to the body on one side and bolted to the door on the other. I don't know the details of the 205, but based on my D reg BX the Low Oil Pressure, High Water Temp., Low Coolant and the Stop lights are all illuminated when the ignition switch is turn on. This is allow you to check that non of the bulbs are blown. They go off when the engine starts to run.

If its the same setup as the xantia, that is the fast idle lever on the pump being pulled by a cable from a vacuum operated diaphragm, if so check for movement of the cable as the aircon is switched on and opposit movement as the engine speed is increased.

It could be your head gasket!
The head gasket could blow between a cooloant channel and the combustion chamber, causing overheating and pressurisation of the cooling system as you are experiencing. Just beacause you are not having oil/water mixing it doesnt mean the head gasket hasnt gone. I would get your garage to check the coolant for any...

White smoke can be caused by worn or dirty injectors. You could try some Miller's dieselclean or Redex diesel in your fuel tank. Injection timing being out would also produce white smoke, but if it started suddenly, you can forget that one. A head gasket leak will also show up with white or grey smoke. Check your header tank for any water loss.

Well, you've got the cam cover oil seal at the top, which is known to leak,
Or, further down, you have the head gasket !
I would also take the covers off the timing belt, and check that for contamination, the belt could be being used as a carrier for the oil leak from somewhere else !

so far I have added a Pipercross induction kit, a nice carbon fibre
tailpipe, and it's had the de-cat,
Just with those few things done it's pulling a lot better than

Think you'll find there are two different ones - but only because some 406's have 15 inch wheels and some 14.

Some information of the wiring of door locks with deadlock facility).
The electrical connector has 5 pins. Call the highest pin No.1.
Normal Lock Circuit:
Uses pins 1 and 2. The resistance across pins 1 and 2 should be about 5ohms if the coil is OK.
If OK, applying 12V+ to pin 1 and negative to pin No.2 will unlock. Reversing the polarity...

405 1.9 Turbo Diesel Starting Problems

1) Air in fuel system - try priming using the bulb, soft = air.
2) Pre-Heater relay timing not working. Pre-heaters should be on for a short while AFTER the engine has started, to give it a hand.

Have you identified which wires are concerned with the deadlocking feature and tested them for the necessary voltage during deadlock operation.
Does the connector look clean with no sign of corrosion.
Have you tried manualy operating the deadlocks with the key in the drivers door lock.
If all else fails you really dont want to go hammering...

The smell comes from the bacteria in the duct work. To get rid of it, turn on the air-con and turn up the heat to maximum for a while. If the pollen filter hasn't been changed recently, get a new one. On the 406 you'll find it at the rear of the engine bay. Move the windscreenwipers so that they stop on the screen pointing upwards. I have a spare turbo off a 405 1.9TD and I was wondering what other cars it fitted? Its the Garrett turbo, not KKK. Also how much should I ask for it as I am selling it?
I presume this is the same engine at the 306DT? What other models will it fit and what Citroen models?

I don't know if the similarities between your 106 and my Saxo extend to the power steering. On the Saxo, the power assistance comes from an electric driven pump. Open your bonnet. Look to the right of the rad (as you face it) If you see a black cap, screwed to a plastic jar with a tube running from its base, down to an electric pump, my guess...

Hi,
I have a 1994 106 1.5D, which had a severe oil leak from its crankcase breather and rocker cover gasket. I have cured this, but now oil is appearing on the front bumper (All along in front of the rad, but the greatest quantity is just to the off-side of the rad).
Does anybody have any idea where this might be coming from?

Speaking to the guys in Europe who have more to do with these than us over this way are ever likely to, I'm sure you'll find it's not partially a Citroen rear suspension but rather IS a Citroen rear suspension.
No big deal to remove the spheres, just follow Citroen practice, and take them to Citroen service guy with regassing equipment....

I am not sure how the Peugot ones work but the Xanta keypads were deactivated by setting the code to 0000 (I think, may have been 0001). If it is the same and wasn't deactivated some ther way (disconnection?) then that will be the code.
Can't remember the routine for reprogramming it.

I don't have a 106D but I do have a Saxo and because many of the radiators are interchangeable between the two vehicles, the removal process is probably similar. Drain off. Remove the air cleaner inlet pipework. Open the spring clips holding the hoses and remove all the hoses from the rad. Disconnect the wiring from the fan and remove the bolts...

Get a fault code read out done, it may be worth paying attention to the Lambda sensor, and or the coolant temperature sensor as the problem seems to be temperrature related.

Hi, I'm having some problems with my 205 XS fuel comsumption. On a 160 km highway run at 120 kph, it guzzled down 16 liters of fuel. Dunno what the mpg on that is, but it's too high.
Engine is a monopoint injected TU3M-KDY, which seems to be running fine. Only issue is when it's cold; it starts just fine, but has some reluctance to accellerate...
