1.9 306d

i have a 1.9 306d on an "S" plate which has done 90000 miles.the problem is when accelerating it tends to hesitate at about 2200 revs.after a second or two it carries on accelerating but throws out a bit of black smoke which seems to be unburned fuel.it does it throughout all the gears but runs very well the rest of the time.any suggestions anyone

I'd suspect two things here..
1) Some kind of emissions control ( EGR ) kicking in, dodgy sensor ?
2) Your timing may be ever so slightly out ?
When was your cam-belt last changed ?

Hi,
At 2,200 revs the turbo is just starting to kick in.
Check the pipe that leads from the intercooler to the pump - located on the front of the intercooler. If this is leaking it will cause hesitation, until the pressure reaches the desired pressure.

I have a 306 1.9d also. I used to have a similar problem until I took out the air filter and replaced it with a green induction kit. cost 60 approx and well worth it.

egr vale and and sensor ok.timing belt changed recently,gave the car a good ragging through the gears (as told by peugeot fitter off the record) vast improvement noticed already

Ahem, and when exactly did it start displaying these symptoms, before, immediately after, or long ( ie. thousands of miles ) after the belt change ?
Its a long shot, but I would check the fuel feed system ( and the injector run-off ) for air leaks.
