there is not a lot to clean on temp sensor is just a reed sensor hanging in airflow. you can wipe the dome end of the stepper motor but DO NOT force it in and out or you will damage the gear. as far as throttle butterfly just open butterfly and clean with toothbrush also make sure air holes are clear.map sensor just check for clear intact pipes. I...

Bodger, If you are unsure of if the car has had it's cambelt changed, have it done.
The clunking could be down to an anti roll bar drop link, they wear out quickly and sound quite bad when they clunk, the nyloc nuts used to hold them in place can get quite corroded, so unless you have an impact driver!!!
The leaves in the blower, you'd have to...

A main dealer quoted me £215 fitted.

Hi dom,
With the instrument display removed, shine a light from the back and observe the front. Remove the bulbs from the instrument display, that you reckon are not lighting up. You will then see the symbol relating to that light e.g. ABS, Airbag, STOP etc. If the bulb does not light, check to see if your model is fitted with the equipment...

have a look at this recent topic, it tells you what should do if you need the radio code:

Hi Wendy,
I'm afraid that there are so many other things on a car that wear out in accordance with the milage that a new engine won't make a lot of difference to the selling price - it should however make it easier to sell.
i.e. set your selling price slightly higher than the Price Guide for a car with the same year and milage you have.

Hi
Have a look at this site . Someone recommended this to me in the past, and it's a really useful source of technical info. If you find the appropriate part of the site you will find the Citroen Technical Guide which gives an in depth explanation of all matters hydraulic.

i recenlly purchased a sphere removal tool for www.pleides.co.uk, the band wrench.
what a brillant product had my spheres off in 5 minute's flat.

I seem to remember that Sykes Pickavant once did a caliper piston wind in tool.
Try www.sptools.co.uk
Personally never had much trouble with the traditional 1 chisel 1 screwdriver method to wind the piston in, but maybe I am just a true bodger!
If you really want the Citroen special tool then I imagine that its very pricey, if you want I will...

Good work fella!
We only do BX rear strut suspension gaiters at Andyspares. At the time of writing (kitchen table at home with bottle of beer) can't remember if BX gaiters are the same as Xantia ones.
As you can guess I do not have a Microfiche in my kitchen to check this fact.
I will try and look into this tomorrow.

Seen 390,000 on a Xantia 19D. 350,000 on Pig 205D, which had never been in bits. Both well serviced and had racked up the miles on the motorway so few short engine killing runs.
Berlingo HDI Wicked Red

Its not normally mentioned in any of the service schedules to change the PAS Fluid (Dextron ATX), but I think that changing it is no bad idea.
The red fluid should definately be changed if it becomes muddy and dark, instead of red.
I've only changed it once, and not by choice. I was driving down the M4 one night when there was a big bang, no PAS...

NO!!!
Its not anything like LHM! LHM is a mineral oil, LDS is not. LDS is like a power steering fluid. I will explain further techinical details when I am back in work, but in a nutshell LDS is a coloured version of the latest power steering fluid as used by Merc, VW etc. In no way is it mixable or indeed compatible with LHM.
When I'm back at my...

Not that I know the answer, but could you give more information such as...
Is the engine hot or cold ?
You say it happens when you change gear - is this actually with the clutch down ?
Up hill, down hill, on the level ?
Does it idle ok ?
What about if you gently rev it in neutral to say 1500 rpm then let the revs drop ?
My first un-educated...

Dan,
as you will see from previous forum postings, we have talked our way around this problem for ages, with no definate conclusions part from the fact the top cable routing/adjustment is essential, and also that an LHM seal at the top of the cable into the speedo head may also help!
I personally believe that the top cable should be pushed/pulled...

mike,
try disconecting the battery!, other than that i have no other idea, sorry not much more help.

Guru Dave Burns will probably correct me , but I seem to recall that only Xantias with Aircon have a pollen filter, with is located under the dash on the passenger side.
If the car does not have aircon, then it gets its cold air feed from the scuttle area under the bonnet. There should be a plastic mesh that should stop leaves etc entering the...

hmm,
As regards the rear suspension problem, provided that the dampers were OE spec (Sachs Boge) then I can't think that this is your problem. Probably a good idea to get the rear subframe mounts checked, they may be breaking away. Also, get the rear arms checked (look to see if one of the rear wheels is leaning in slightly).
The clutch, well, I...

Hi, If you go to the Citroen dealer and quote the KQA code this should give you the paint colour you're after. The BR is irrelevant. Alternatively you could try a motor factors and give the the KQA code to them, it is most likely that it is a dealer only paint, it will cost about £5 for either a can or touchup kit. Hope this helps, I had the same...

hello used rad weld before in other cars good results, but depends how long your to keep car ...at end of the day your going to have to get it soldered or a new one ..

a lot of the models are face to face just a sealing compound a very common place to leak is on flywheel end you would assume it is rear crank but it is usually the 2 oil seals on main crank bearing (hockey stick seals)

You don't say how far this engine has gone - but the obvious oil consumers are valve oil seals and piston rings. You can check the state of the inlet manifold tubes to see if there is a lot of oil there (turbo oil seal failure usually shows up on both suction and pressure sides at the same time).
Otherwise a cold-cranking compression test would...

When you say you tried to clear the drain holes, do you mean they are blocked or you do not know. There are four, one at each front corner and also one either side at the rear of the sunroof. To see if they are blocked pour a little water into the channel. You should see it drip out the front near the wheel arch and at the rear the pipes run out...

My ZX has been lowered 50mm on 16 alloys with 195-50-16 tyres and doesnt rub at all. I think some models were fitted with 15 alloys as standard so I can't see it being a problem
Hope this helps
Chris

KATHBERT,
the master key is one of the keys supplied with the car, it does'nt have to be the remote one.
it only deactivate's the siren not the lights (flashing on/off).
YOU WILL HAVE TO OPEN THE BONNET TO DO THIS, the scuttle pan is located at the bottom of the front windowscreen, on the right hand side, the alarm silencing switich is covered by...

You can do a very simple but quite accurate check by measuring from any static point to any point on the vehicle (often from the ground under the center of a wheel to the edge of the wheel arch is as good as any)in the following three positions:
- min height (service position)
- normal height
- max height
The normal height should be mid way...

I had the same problem on my xantia fitted radio, it turned out to be a bad connection between the aerial plug earthing and the radio. A good cleaning with emery paper round the outer sleeve of the plug cured the problem. If you earth the casing of your radio with a lead from a known good earthing point, and the interference lessens, then its...

Suggest you have a read of some of the points in this attached link. They are in reference to the BX but I feel are applicable in your case.

As far as your accumulator sphere goes; sounds as though it could be on the way out by the consistency of the ticking, however it will have no bearing on the ride. I would think that there is more of a...

hi
The link tells you all you need to know about lowering the rear. The volcane zx is factory lowered so all the bits from one of those should do your trick if you can find a good one. A side affect would be the addition of rear discs.

You don,t say if the clicking is when moving the wheel or not , when does it occur ?.
I also have a 1997 Xantia td 1.9 with a hdx engine and no power.
After many hours spent under the bonnet , reading these pages and the
manual I have come to the conclusion that this lack of power has been put there by Citroen. Even though the block is the same as...

ihavea 1997 1.9 turbo deisal xantia i am still getting a clikking under the steering wheel cowlig by the ing switch i know someone told me their is sensors under their but what they are for i dont know the haynes manual dosent show very much to go by i would be very gratfull if anyone has had this prob and what it was also idont seem to have a...

You will probably need to tell us the model of your citroen

THe Xsara is pretty much the ZX, most of the chassis has remained the same(the early Zsara used the ZX floorpan), it will rattle a lot less than the ZX as well, the interiors are lovely. Go down to a dealership have a look around one, get a test drive, it won't cost you anything. As for performance, the HDi is supprisingly quick, so I've been told...

The drop link is usually so worn it's worth replacing - use an angle grinder and fit a new drop link - it's not worth the grief trying to undo it.
//NiSk

I can't answer your question but on my 1997 Xantia this wire is not connected and like yours, when connected, a low volume tone starts after a while. I think it something they use when installing / setting up the system.

If you are just using two speakers then it doesn't really matter so long as you use the same terminal as positive on each. It does become an issue in multiple speaker installations in that you want all the cones moving in the same direction ie in phase.
What you can do is to check the direction of cone travel on your existing speakers by briefly...

If you have a digital camera with a lcd display or camcorder you can fire the remote into it, most cameras that have electronic viewfinders or lcd screens will display the infrared source from the plip, try with a known good source like a tv remote if you don't see anything.
Or you can get a specially coated card from electronic stores that will...

Hi shaunthesheep,
Which model Xantia and year.

Dom,
On the BX, I fit them 35mm in from the outer edge & central in the other direction.
I usually go for the 45 degree angled type and/or replace the nipple with a flat headed screw once pumped up. If you check out common problems & fixes on this forum you'll find links to a site that has pics of the entire job along with some written...

WHAT AGE IS YOUR XANTIA

Can anyone tell me how the front fogs lights are connected to the main electrical loom.
I'm trying to add them to my Xsara LX, I think I have found the connector in the space between the bumper & the arches (passanger side), but I'm not sure.
Many thanks
Mark

Don't know about the clicking sound, probably a relay going ape for some reason, there are quite a few near that area, see if you can locate it by feeling for it, if you find it swap it for another of the same type, if it still clicks you will have to find out what the relay does and wether or not the circuit it controlls is working ok.
Do you...

We covered this one some time earlier, in respect of a Xantia TD (same engine)...
Heres the link of that topic which tells you where to get one!

I recently bought a socket specifically for diesel injectors (27mm), from my local motor store. It was manufactured by Laser and cost about £7 but worth every penny, try phoning about A1 motor, Wilco, whatever store is closest to you. Happy hunting.

Hi Kathbert,
Go to your nearest Citroen Main dealer. Ask them to obtain the radio code from Citroen. I obtained the code for my radio, free from my local Citroen Main dealer. The radio must be the factory fitted original. The dealer will require the VIN number, year, model etc. for the vechicle. The radio does NOT need to be removed from the...

Hi Graeme,
See posting P.Rourke 16th Aug 2002. Lot of good info here. Also transistors, housed as part of the motor, are used to control speed in some models. They need to be checked.

Hi all it me again
I think I have traced the problem back to a sensor on the throttle housing, but can anyone tell me what this sensor is and am I gona have to lose a limb to replace it.
The sensor i question is located on the throttle housing next to the part the throttle cable is attached to, its small and black is made by Bosch and is connected...
