I don't have knowledge of the Peugeot, but the issue of a loose connection is known with several makes of car.
I doubt the piece of plastic holding the cable to the floor will cause an issue with the air bag light, but an intermittent loose connection in the plug and socket almost certainly will. Check for a good electrical connection within. Look...

Tyres; Tubes in Tubeless

I have in the past, and more recently, fitted tubes into tubeless tyres that showed signs of deflating slowly due to rim corrosion failing to seal on the tyre bead. My local tyre depot had no problems fitting tubes into my tubeless tyres on the Dyane (due to the aforementioned reason for leakage) and are quite happy to fit tubes into the GS wheels...

I've had done it myself (fitting tubes into tubeless rims) on various cars, but the advice I was more recently given is that the valve holes of some alloys are a different shape, and that the inside of the hole needs to be rounded before fitting tubes, otherwise they chafe on the hard edge. Not so much of a problem with steel or extruded alloy...

GS difficult to start

My GS is a pain to start from cold and needsway too much cranking to get to go which is of course wrong. Plugs and leads are relatively new though i baulked at the points due to the need to take the dizzie off. I'll be doing that this week. However, I suspect compression may also be an issue so I've tested number 4 which is only 80psi (5.25kg/m3)...

Here we have a GS 1300 V-reg Estate 1980 free to good home.
The engine runs very well which is a good start but she will need a bit of work
and of course will need to be trailered away. could be driven onto the trailer.
The suspension lifts as it should.
The Car is in Burton Latimer Northamptonshire very close to Junction 10 of the A14....

Mice that is, under the bonnet. Little devils are in there even after a couple of days parked on the drive. Problem is, we are surrounded by fields and hedges, and the spare wheel with a rag in for cushioning the jack and oil bottles make an ideal nest for lodgers! Cute little devils, and cheeky with it, but they're not house/car trained and pee...

Its in a garage nice and dry and still all there.Its been there for 14 years and the rear subframe was half removed.
I bought it but can not find the time to collect and refurbish it. :shock: .

Hello,

As part of a load of spares that came with my recently-bought CX, I acquired a secondhand GS/GSA tinted windscreen.
I had a look at it the other day, and it seems to be in good condition with no chips.

Would any of you GSA owners like it as an insurance against a future broken screen?

I need the space, so stuck it on EBay for a tenner,...

She gets used three or four times a week, and starts fine on full choke. Takes a while to warm up, but after three or four miles the choke is completely off.

Until about ten days ago. She started to fire up very reluctantly, and almost on two pots. Left to chug-a-lug she'd gradually get going, though touching the throttle would cause a stall....

Speaking of infestation - took the Weber off the spare engine yesterday (been under a sheet outside for yonks). Spindles were seized, but chokes full of rat bait put there by some squatting mouse for storage. Never got any rent either . . . Damn cheek.

Thanks both. Checked the timing with the Xenon and it was only a couple of degrees out. Certainly runs a lot sweeter especially in the low range. Such a nice car to drive - popping out to the shops just a mile away generally ends up with 15 or 20 miles on the clock.

Popped a new set of pads in the front brakes too. Had a leakage a while back and...

Well it feels that way.

Went out to start the GS at 2.30am and it was no joy at all. So in went the lawnmower can just in case the fuel gauge was telling fibs, but fuel was getting through, so it was more hope than anything else. With a 3am start, I then proceed to flatten the battery. Dig out a pair from the shed. Mess around with the Ducellier...

Stuffed the boot full (including some tools), planted the roof box on (also filled), and off - three and a dog - from Shropshire to Badenoch and Strathspey for a family catch-up - and back home.

Lots of rain North of Glasgow on the way North, but the rest of the week fine warm weather. Car never missed a beat. All in a total of 1,065 miles...

Okay, okay. I didn't read the parts book properly and order the right bits.

The plan of action was to replace 4 bits of the distributor the other day. I'd order a Valeo D103 cap and rotor set and a D221 contact breaker and condenser set from mister-auto.ie

Unspecified suspension fluid leak

Well, we got it back up in the air and took a look. The unspecified leak is causing a wetting of the subframe, and there was a little puddle (a desert spoonful) of LHM on the deck.
It appears to be coming from the junction tucked up against the lower inner wing above the steering rack end. There's a rubber...

I've got some dead wipers, but haven't delved into it yet. I might need another wiper motor whilst I look into it.

At the moment there is no movement when switched to first or second speed at the switch. I don't think it's the fuse as it has a 4 fuse box and from memory the clock works on the same circuit.

Evenin'.

The G exhaust does look a bit complex with its Y pieces, bubble things at the front and the droopy bit at the back. People keep telling me my exhaust looks like its falling off!

nout wrong with G exhausts, the Y is quite straight forward, and the bubble creats a vortex to help drag the exhaust gas's out of the N/S rear cylinder

My G went in for an MOT a few weeks ago...she passed! There was an advisory on an engine oil leak near the front inboard brakes discs. I'm a bit reluctant to drive it until I've had a closer look. If I remember correctly, Citronut reckons it could be related to the drain tubes.

Need to look into this rattle around the drivers side head area too.

Hey guys. I'm based in South Africa and was wondering what specification is the Total LHM hydraulic oil. Reading the net it seems as if Citroen went into partnership to design the LHM for their suspensions, but I'm sure post the patent expired, other manufacturers manufactured similar oils.

no not a workshop manual but the owners manual that comes with the car from new, this shows what everything is for,

i personally would repair/reconnect the pre/heat pipes, i dont know if it will cause problems with it blanked of, there is one on the other side of the inlet manifold,

one problem i can see leaving it open is you will fill the cab...

I think the 4451A is the body part number or something. 525 073 is the number given to the whole thing.

e.g.

As you can see from the pic, 4431A is to the right. The GD4, GD1 is the mechanical advance curve spec followed by the vacuum advance spec.

I think my GS is still running its original tyres so i ought to replace them. The Michelins are too expensive but I think the front tyres from a Smart car fit. Has anyone run on them. I also have a habit of running my winter tyres on steelies and the summer ones on alloys. What's available for the 3 stud patter.?

I run Michelins and in my ownership have forked out for 2 NOS ones when picking up a load of spares and 3 brand new ones (@£118ea) at a later date, prompted by the fact that one of the old ones (of some age) had some sidewall damaged. I think in terms of the correct size, it's between the Michelin and the Nankang, and it'll be a cold day in hell...

Hi,

Had a bash at this on the way home from work yesterday as I've had to start using the GS again and it's grumbly-rumbly.

a) I was on the way home and not heavily tooled-up.
b) I haven't done one before, and hadn't read up on it before hand :oops:

So with that in mind, got the hub nut undone, removed the two bolts holding the top balljoint...

A friend's dad was a Citroen dealer when I was at college,. My friend drove a GSA. It would do over a ton, regularly and quite happily. Those flat-4s rev really very well. I think his was a V-reg one, not sure what model. Satellite controls, weird speedo. Great car.

Kev have a look here they do list calliper seal kits and pistons for G's and GSA's

they sourced calliper repair kits for Tiffany ( Chris Salters 1983 Visa )

and they gave me a call back outside business hours

GS steering wheel needed

Hi there,

I am need of a GS steering wheel, it can be in any condition - so long as the metal is good and it is a GS steering wheel.

I was able to pick up a newly refurbished one, but have to send back another in return - and the one on my car is pretty good.

Have checked with a few people/places, but haven't had any luck.

Sally has been known to the Citroen Car Club for many years, making an appearance at many shows in the past.

Just bought a couple of new tailgate gas struts for the G from SGS Engineering . They even list the G here along with all the others. A reasonable price and decent looking product. They were very helpful on the phone and had all the information to hand. While I was checking the lengths (had to dart off and do other things too), they even rang back...

They even managed to re-gas my GS catflap struts which were made in 1977! They are still doing fine after 3 years or so. Seb was very helpful on the phone too. I've used them a couple of times and can second the above recommendation.

Ignition barrel

Jumped into the GS the other night to get to work, but then had to change plan and jump in the Volvo.

Key didn't want to enter the ignition barrel.

Haven't buried my head in a manual yet as I've been at work, but I guess it's fairly straightforward to do. Any tips or warnings most welcome...

What with the sunny weather this weekend I've been able to crack on with a few jobs on the G, one this that did stump me though was getting the washer pump out of the bottle. I've disconnected the two spade connectors and water pipe, turned it about 90 degrees expecting it to unlock and pull out but then it comes up to a stop and won't come...

Sadly, i need to part with my GSA C-MATIC PALLAS, she's a 1982 car,on a W reg,in a yellow/beige colour! she has the rare GS dash, this is the oldest known spec for this car,
she had new front floors/sill/waxoled some 4/5 years ago, but has been off the road for last 3-4 years, she does need work, is currently garaged near porstmouth, i can not...

Dates for the G/Ami rally are 22 & 23rd June, 2013 =D>
to be held again at the popular Rural life centre, Tilford, Farnham,surrey
the main rally day will be sunday, but come for the whole weekend, camping from friday night,

Hope I like it again. The last time I got out of a GSA it was a really nice A-reg pallas which I'd done a bit of fettling to and was rather proud of. Unfortunately it was upside-down in a field at the time.

I've been saying for a while that if the 'right' one came up for sale I'd buy it. Been using excuses like I'd rather have a GSA than a GS ,...
