GSA windscreen washer pump
What with the sunny weather this weekend I've been able to crack on with a few jobs on the G, one this that did stump me though was getting the washer pump out of the bottle. I've disconnected the two spade connectors and water pipe, turned it about 90 degrees expecting it to unlock and pull out but then it comes up to a stop and won't come upwards, don't want to force it too hard as it all feels a bit delicate!
Malcolm, to get the stage of freeing up the rod I assume I need to take it out or did you mean tap the side of the washer bottle?
What am I missing?

Re: GSA windscreen washer pump
sorry yes Kev remove the pump from the tank and gently tap the bottom and top alternatively on something solid ( no not the head lamps ) several times, till you hear the rod moving up and down, with lack of use they get stuck,
Regards, malcolm.

Re: GSA windscreen washer pump
Thanks Malcolm. Eventually worked out how to get the pump out. I was being a bit too careful as I didn't want to break it if I could get it working. Once out the rod was moving up and down okay. Stuck it in a pot of water and put some power to it, it started making a lot of noise but the water wasn't moving. We had a go to see if it needed priming but no luck there either. As there was nothing to loose we cut it open hoping to make some sense of it but nothing was gained. So on the lookout for a generic water pump.

Re: GSA windscreen washer pump
Are the anything like GS ones?
Mine works on the basis of squirting a set dollop of water on the window per flick of the switch rather than continuously streaming water for the duration the switch is held on.

Re: GSA windscreen washer pump
these pumps work by 12v on off on off on off on off not continuous volts/power, they are an electro magnet which give one shot of screen wash every upwards stroke of the metal rod,
if you tell me the length of the washer pump i might have a replacement,
have you tested for 12v at the live feed wire that goes to the pump, whilst someone holds the washer switch/stalk on

Re: GSA windscreen washer pump
We tried dabbing it on and off but had no luck. We tested with a separate battery too.

Re: GSA windscreen washer pump
I'll go and have a look in a bit. I'm not sure what the forum rules are when it comes to comparing the lengths of our fluid squirters though

I'm sure you will exaggerate the measurements by 50% so the forum nanny will be set to reduce them by 75% and you will have to buy a Cayman to compensate.red_dwarfers wrote:I'll go and have a look in a bit. Re: GSA windscreen washer pump
In that case the length of the whole thing in my measurements make it 10 1/2 inches or in real terms 7". So yes, do you have one that's 7" long tucked away Malcolm?

Re: GSA windscreen washer pump
I got fed up with the GSA screen-wash system and fitted a modern pump by the washer bottle and spray jets in place of the original bonnet mounted items. It worked much better....but after not being used during last winter, the new pump failed to work in the spring; I lubricated the pump's cog wheels and it was cured. It just goes to show that new items are not always better than the original in every way.
Re: GSA windscreen washer pump
also the original pump use's far less screen wash than a continuous modern pump, so i feel the original is bettercitnut3 wrote:I got fed up with the GSA screen-wash system and fitted a modern pump by the washer bottle and spray jets in place of the original bonnet mounted items.
