Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

Have a look at the wiring to the front sensors. Clean the connections with some switch cleaner. Clean the sensors externally as well as the toothed wheel. I suspect someone wobbled the wires to the sensors when they changed the tyres and it made a good connection for a short while.

Apologies for such a long post - Thought I'd explain everything in one hit!!
Replaced expansion tank on Saturday as it was full of brown deposits (It was impossible to see the level of coolant!!).. Flushed system through as it was full of brown murky looking water, refilled etc. Had to top up the coolant a couple of times, i'm guessing I didn't...

I can't speak for a Renault 25 but on most French cars per se, the bleed screws can be either plastic round things with screw slot in the middle or simply bleeders (nipples) as you have on hydraulic brakes.

If they work the same as the Citroen plips then reprogramming is done by turning the ignition on and firing the plip at the reciever. Surely they wouldn't charge £40 for that.
Other known problems with the Cit IR plips are dirt in the reciever lens or simply a weak battery.

an update: Have recently re checked the tyre pressures, it has made a slight difference. After sticking my head out of the window to see what happens when i steer i have found out that the steering actually loses contact with the wheels while i am turning about 1 degree to the left any further than that and steering is fine and i turn gracefully...

i too have the same problem with my clio (must be common). Soon i will be attempting to fix the problem. But first we need to make sure that it isn't the matrix, hopfully it is just a blockage or air in the matrix. Drain the coolent and disconnect the hoses for the heater on the engine side. Then get a mate to pour very hot water into the hose...

Removed Fuel Tank sender unit and this appears to be working,
so it would seem to be faulty either dash consile or electronics
anyone any thoughts
ps
to access fuel tank sender unit
* remove rear seats
* remove cubby hatches
* lift carpet
and you will find a rubber bung
remove this and the sender is underneath
this may save you some considerable...

My dad 1998 laguna had the same problem. I think the resistor pack leaves somehwere under the dash on the passenger side of the car. When I find the haynes manual ill let you know the exact location. Just pray its not the switch assembly as these cost £300 plus from renault. As I was told that a faulty switch can cause similar probs.

I think youlle find its not possible to swop the bellhousng on these..its an integral part of the two casings.. used to be able to on old fords...rwd and the like.. but Im afraid youlle need to change that box for a correct one.

Just brought a clio, all very nice, but, the radio doesn't switch on and off with the ignition, but does switch off after about 25 mins all by its self.

Now been into a main dealer after the engine managemt warning light came on. They identified a problem with the emission control system and found a split in a small rubber tube running across the rear of the engine. Now replaced and running fine. Hi there
I have a Clio 1.4 RT (circa 1992). I have exactly the same problem.
I think because of the positioning of the infra-red receiver in the roof of the car, you have to be very close for the remote locking to work (so it is visible to the key).
If it was radio controlled, this wouldn't be an issue.

Not questioning your sanity, but is the fluid level where it should be?
Reason I ask is that I had a similar problem on my Cit a couple of years ago after I'd dropped the selector valve that had drained the transmission.
I drained & refilled & it's all been OK ever since. It's just that sometimes the most obvious can be the hardest to see. Mine...

Using compressed air to blow the drains clear has been known to blow the tubes off where they connect to the sunroof drain, thus letting water inside the roof.
Just a thought.

hi all,
i recently embarked on rebuilding a renault 5 gt turbo, raider.
i have got up to the point where i have refitting the head and rocker(s). could anyone please tell me the best way of setting up the valve timing spaces please? (followers>rockers)

Does Anyone know where I can get a workshop manual for one of these?
As far as I know Haynes don't do them, which is a shame as Haynes are on the whole very good.
Just out of interest, mine is the Prima model SWB 2.4T 1996 N reg. 185000K and still going strong!

I doubt it has anything to do with the MOT station. I would guess it is just a coincidence.

Just put megane rt in for mot to well known service station, when i got the car back the petrol light is staying on(yes i did put petrol in it) i know i should take it back to them but is it a problem i can solve myself(plug connection etc..)

you've got to repace or repair the pipe first as this could be drawing in air & giving the sensor false readings.

does anyone know how to test a lambda sensor on a 1.4 clio,the car starts ok but doesn,t want to rev there is a hole in the downpipe within the vicinity of the sensor but don't know if this is the problem.

I have a NA 1.1 Renault 5 and I want to tune it in NA way, no turbo...
I've heard that the cylinder block is the same like from C1J engines

The brake pedal problem sounds like air in the system.
Does it firm up if you pump the pedal a few times?
If so it probably just needs bleeding.

probably the transponder in the key buggered, have you tried the spare key? if not renault will cahrge you a few bob for a new one, or you could try one of the many alarm servicing / fitting places to re key your transponder (would be about £20 or 30).

Key remote has stopped opperating the central locking resulting in the immobiliser coming on. Using the key in the door doesn't work the central locking, but the button next to the handbrake locks the doors fine, but the immobiliser won't re-set.
Key battery is new, and all fuses are fine.
Running out of ideas !!!

I'm possibly jumping in at the deep end here as I know Citroen but rarely even see a Renault let alone work on one, however I'll make an educated guess that the ts is a carby job whilst the E7J is injected.

Wife wanted a Kangoo automatic!!!!!
Used with high miles 65k, FSH. Automatic box (same as 1.4 Clio auto????)
Automatic box seems very clunky and changes down when braking (at low speed).Is it a clunky automatic or do I have a problem. There doesnt appear to be a gearbox dipstick so I cant check the oil / level

Ever tried the rubber glove trick over the plug leads?
Take an ordinary (not the disposable type) rubber glove, slit the finger tips & feed the plug & coil leads through each of the finger holes.
Tighten them onto the leads & distributor and see what happens.
This was an old trick with Minis years ago that suffered from the same problem.

I've had a leak that has shorted the central locking receiver/blip in the ceiling. If I manage to fix the receiver or buy a new one does anyone know if I have to reprogram it to recognise my key fobs or is it a simple plug & play?

A bit odd for both to go at the same time, but sounds like the rear wiper connections may have come undone (the connection plug is a problem on some renaults) and at the front, well, if they are slow, then it may be the motors on its way out. Have you tried tightening the wiper nuts in case they are loosely fitted??

I've got a Clio '94 1.4 RN, problem is that the wipers dont work intermittantly at the front and also won't park properly. Also the rear wiper doesn't work at all. Both washers work......so:
1. Is this a relay problem?
2. If so, where is the relay physically located?

It sounds like your starter motor is faulty...if there's absolutely no sound at all, then check the live wire going into the back of the starter. Normally this can come undone, loose or just needs cleaning to get a good contact / connection.

My problem with the Laguna is nothing to do with road speed, but in fact it has all to do with engine speed..allow me to elaborate....
When I'm driving, I get a very strong vibration from the front of the car. You can't actually feel it, but you can hear it very well and you can see the rear windscreen actually vibrate in the rear-view mirror....
