do you have engine oil in water, water in oil,if yes, poss head off for inspection.try a wet & dry comp test, or evan a cylinder leakage test to see if rings are at fault.it is poss that over filling with oil will produce these results, but valve stem seals will make smoke at idle & just after driving off, not under driving

HELP !!!!!
Wanted urgently, drivers seat from 1.6 GTi (1992) J reg, black and red chequer cloth.
Must be good condition, cash waiting.......

hi mate sounds like the same thing i had on my 309 , when i pushed down on the back it creaked and grated , it turned out to be the anti roll bar bearings, and the cheapest fix was to get a complete 2nd hand axle to put on ,£50 from the breakers .hope this helps

At the base of the rev-counter, below the digital clock should be a 'black plastic knob', turn this left to adjust the hours and right for the minutes.

You can buy the special tool to do the job, you will also find it just about impossible to do it without such a tool, can be purchased online, it's not cheap though.

Go to this site, choose J & S then drive train, there are two types.
I have had tools from here and was impressed with the service.
Dave

Hi, I fitted electric rear windows to my Xantia, it was a cake walk, nothing to it, so swaping one shouldn't be a problem for most folk.
Good luck
Dave

its fixed yes!!!!!!thanks for the replys as well

I have, but it only happens to me when the cooling fan is working too.

If you are doubting the condition or have no idea when it was last changed, replace it. Cam belts are cheap compared to the cost of repairing the engine. Cracks can appear at the sides of the teeth but these can only be seen with the belt off. I've never done one on a TU engine but it should be easy to do. Better than a BX diesel!

Just installed a new aftermarket (Serck Marston) radiator in my '94 405 GTX. Car has a 2,0 litre motor (type RFX). The new radiator has an extra open pipe about 3 cm long at the bottom of the plastic tank on the fill side (left when looking under bonnet). The extra pipe is quite in the way of the power steering pump, leaving me only about 1 cm...

Problem with 91 605SRi. The central locking only works every 7th lock. Any ideas what's behind this and an easy fix? Also wipers work intermittently on fast sweep. Is this a relay fault?

Since the vibration starts when the brake pedal is operated, I suggest you start by looking closely at the pads, callipers and discs.

Hi mick, if you are on about the coupling between the column and the rack, it should be a splined split clamp like on just about any other car on the road, have yet to see anything different, you have to completely remove the pinch bolt to get the coupling off because it locates in a groove that goes around the splined shafts.
Happy New Year
Dave

Hi, What injection equipment is on it and where is the fuel filter located.
Dave

The batteries in the remote control to the central locking on my 1998 306 D turbo go flat after about 1 week - this happens with both key fobs and with new batteries bought from different shops - anyone know why and what to do about it? Peugeot dealer says the whole system will have to be replaced - are there any cheaper alternatives?

On the 1769/1905 Peugeot/Citroen diesels the hole in the block for crankshaft timing is behind the starter motor, you can only see it by using a small mirror on the end of a rod, but because you know it's there it's just a matter of proding around until your probe locates it, you should be able find all timing marks easey enough with the aid of a...

Can anybody tell me where the 'sensor' that powers the rev counter on a 106 diesel is located.
Cheers

Hi Michael, Yep could be burnt contacts in the pre-heating relay, could be air getting in through a split leakoff pipe or the blanking cap, it could even be the stop solenoid sticking but that is unlikely.
Good luck
Dave

There's been no new posts on this forum since cybernck told everyone about 205Gtidrivers.com
More than a coincidence me thinks...

The seal fails in the pump, water then gets into the motor goes rusty siezes up, take the wires off the pump motor and see if there is current being supplied when the switch is opperated, if there is and the earth point is good go and buy a new pump, if there is no supply check fuses and relays if they are ok backtrack from the pump untill the...

Hi
You could try www.trents.co.uk, I've found them very helpful in the past at locating the CORRECT used part, they deliver, and the service is excellent. (No I don't work for them, I'm just a satisfied customer!)
Jamie Allmond

Come on Puginators!!!!! Someone must have some advice?!?!?!?
Even if it's to push the car off the nearest cliff!
Kris

I'm sure someone will say I'm totally wrong but my theory has always been that the engine senses the heat and so doesn't supply as much fuel as when you start the engine from cold. That's certainly how it was with my old 1.6 Carburetor 405 with a dodgy automatic choke.
Kris

Kris,
Me again
Apparently you should't hold power steering on full lock for very long!!! (Not good 4 it)
Mine makes straining hydraulic noises when i do it for too long....

quote: if CHECK ENGINE is lighting up this will cause stall to stop damage to engin try taking it to a pug dealer for reaset
this may cure it
Right. Here's a tough one.
My Mi16 is stalling... ALOT!
As I approach junctions I put my foot down on the clutch, as you do, then brake to stop.
But the revs become unsteady and the engine cuts out. On the...

Kris,
Might be wrong, but my brother spoke to a Independant Peugeot specialist and they said that the so called idling was normal
My 205 (1.6) idles about 800rpm - 1100rpm when coldish, gets better as it gets warmer
How iratic are you talking?

1988 205 XS

I own a 205 (1.6), and whenever i get to about 1/3 left on the fuel guage, its flickers about all over the place.(Sometimes on reserve when i know there is loads left!!)
To get round this i go by the milage on the re-set counter... (46 Litres gets me about 330 miles, which is roughly 32/33 mpg
Not really much help, but you are not the only...

What viscosity of oil are you using?
Some synthetics are great but very thin so it's more likely to seep all over the place through wee gaps.
But who knows? I'm no expert on all this.
How is the car performing?
If it's performing as good as it ever has don't worry.
Kris

As a quick temp fix, I tried cleaning the butterfly valve on the end of the throttle cable by spraying some carb clearner into it whilst holding the valve open, this worked for a while, however havent come up with anything yet - except driving around with my foot covering the throttle pedal whilst slowing down.......

Hi
A couple of things to try. When you switch the air con on, do you hear a relay-type click from under the bonnet as the elctromagnetic clutch engages on the aircon pump?
Secondly, do the ordinary rdiator fan(s) come on when you press the switch?
Also, a bit vague in this cold weather, but drive around with the heater full on and really warm up...

Weak mixture and too far advanced ignition timing are the most comon causes of pinking but there can be other's like carbon deposits causing hot spots leading to pre-ignition and hence pinking, check timing and injection, if they are ok a de-coke may be required.
Dave

Hi can anyone help? My air con button is always on and won't switch off and the Resurculate button doesn't work. This happened about 9 months ago and the garage fixed it, and now it's gone again, and i'm not in the same town. Any thoughts. the Air con is working by the way.
Thanks
Gary Harrison

Starter motors on these and now days most engines are of the pre-engaged type, this means that the pinion gear is pushed along the starter shaft by the solenoid and is engaged with the starter ring gear on the flywheel before the main current is applied, at the end of it's travel the solenoid closes the contacts that allow the main current to pass...

Could be sucking air in somewhere, likely places are the vacuum pipe from the manifold to the brake servo and vacuum advance pipe to distributor.
Dave

There is a great big resistor low down on the front nearside, can't remember if it's to the front in the wheel arch or behind the bumper but I remember it being easey to find without disturbing anything, being resistive when it's working properly it get's hot, the bracket rusted away on mine and left the resistor swinging from the cables.

If you car has antilock brakes there may be special requirements for bleeding though I'm not sure, after fitting the calipers make sure the pistons are pushed as far in as possible, smear copper grease on the bleed nipple threads, find a piece of clear flexible tube that is a snug airtigh fit over the nipple, get a jar with about an inch of fluid...

You can stick with the 16v ignition, injection and ECU, just have to rip out the old wiring loom. It is possible to use the 8v ECU and wiring loom, but you'll need an adaptor for the distributor.
You can use the 1.9GTi gearbox, which has slightly more suitable ratios than the 16v one, but they'll both fit; and the existing 1.9GTi driveshafts stay...

Can anyone help with a fix for a 306 DT: the water in fuel dashboard light intermittently comes on (once a week). I have replaced the fuel filter, and cleaned the fuel filter housing. One thing I did note, is that the sensor on the fuel housing has been replaced once before (it is date stamped after the car was manufactured). Could this be a...

try your local MBf Peugeot workshop. speak to the w/s manager. you not be able to purchase one but he may be kind enough to let you photocopy it. i drive a 2000cc model in Ipoh, the w/s manager here has been most helpful. (tel 05-5062085)ask for Chiew.
Good luck.

my temp guage has recently been slow to register coolant temp. It eventually shows temp but the clock shows normal running temp to be lower than it used to. hot air from the heater is as normal. would i be right in suspecting the coolant temp sensor? if so, how do i test it?

try changing the thermostat and if this doesn't cure it then...

Hi, is it a petrol or a diesel, you might have a air lock in the cooling system, any leak will more than likely cause air locks even if you bleed the system, when the engine is hot the pressure in the cooling system will force coolant through the leak lowering the coolant level, when the engine cools and everything contracts air will be sucked in...

Hi all! I have a Peugeot 405GL 1991 petrol 1580cc Solex carb and having problems with automatic choke, friend tried to adjust positive throttle opening screw and choke open after start spring screw, now need to try and get the Peugeot adjusting tool for this as in UK Haynes Manual ( Peugeot tool no .0143ZZ ) to put it right or can anyone give me...

When I bought my 1997 306 a couple of months ago, the Peugeot garage said that they regularly get a Peugeot technician to fit electric windows. I'm now thinking about having it done. In the book, the window switches are right at the bottom of the front doors, next to the speakers. But my friends old 306 of the same year had electric windows, and...

I don't about the shocks but I would like to ask you this: Does your car has any problems with the idle speed? I mean is it erratic or is it perfect? If have or had this problem and know of it's solution please tell me... I've got a BX 16GTi witch has the same engine as yours but I have serious problems with idle speed and I know that this is a...

Had a 205D few years ago, fantastic car. Did the same thing when running low, think it has something to do with the operation of the pump and the positioning of the intake.
Like you, used it as a reminder to get some fuel.

The trailing arm bearings have gone on near side rear.(P405 GR Est, 1990/1) My old Haynes describes (complex?) procedure, but my later one says dont touch rear suspension at all. Whats the crack? Could I remove trailing arm from a donor car and substitute it on the estate. I presume the trailing arm, bearings and all just push onto the suspension...
