Since the database software update a couple of weeks ago we.have been experiencing random problems with long delays on posting messages and on viewing forum pages.

In the absence of any better explanation I suspect a software version incompatibility, so I will roll-back the database software version.

Hi Duncan, when you remove the intercooler the first thing to do is cover the manifold intake to prevent anything falling in, it has been known, wont mention any names.......ERNIE.
Make sure the replacement plug's are for the turbo engine, n/a engine plug's can screw up the relay.
Use common sense when tightening them back up and smear some anti...

Don't know of any actual manual covering the VTS yet, but the Autodata manual on Timing Belt replacement would probably cover it. You'll also find the same engine in the Xantia 2.0 16v 7/95> (XU10J4R engine) so any manual covering timing belt replacement for that car would help you along. When I had this complaint with my then new Xantia, the dealer at first suggested that by leaving the dashboard ventilator open over night was perhaps the reason for the alarm sounding. As it turned out, the rear door lock needed replacing.

Having recently had the ARCS damper replaced on the OSF of my Activa everything was great, good suspension, great handling etc.

If the pedal is adjusted too high, use of a heavy foot will put tremendous strain on the cable.
On most models, the adjustment is at the carb/injection end, and is by repositioning the cable-outer in its notched clamp. You want it to reach full throttle just as the pedal grounds.

When the engine is up to temperature there IS pressure under the cap, hence the warning to remove the cap slowly when it's hot. XM engine mounts failure?

Hi Jose,
Thanks for joining.
I think that you should look at the bottom engine mount on your XM, this is the one that bolts to the subframe, and its in a mounting that the right hand driveshaft passes through.
Quite often the round rubber part of this mount fails. To see if this is the problem, try tightening the nut and bolt (17mm head I think)...

There is a tiny little fan and motor which draw's air from the cabin over a sensor for cabin climate control, it is locate behind the small grill with the red alarm LED in it, next to the clock.
This little toad is starting to get noisey on my papap too.

Had exactly the same fault as you've just described on my 94 Xantia td.
If the abs light stays on when you start it then it is not a wheel sensor problem. If you take it to a citroen dealer to read the fault off their computer and they tell you there has been no fault stored then it is definitely an ABS ECU (or brain) fault.

Going by the online shop it look's like you can have Bendix or Girling for 19D but only Girling if it's a 19TD because the disc is vented.
If you have solid disc's you could upgrade to vented without much trouble.

Can you try and explain to us what the tool looks like ? I bought ( on recommendation from various posters ) a steel oil filter remover. It had a steel band which was tightened by means of a central screw/bolt. Very effective for the fronts and accumulator, but broke when I had to use a little more force for the rears.

Last Wednesday I fitted a new accumulator to the 2.1 Xantia. Twenty minutes saw the job done. Then it was out with the ramps to do the rears. The first half hour saw the filter clamp broken. Then it was on with the large jubilee clip and hammer. Still nothing doing, so in desperation I phoned the local GSF and Eurospares to get the proper clamp....

I cannot see anyway round this. I have changed a few dashboard bulbs and always have had to take the steering wheel off. There is just not enough room for the instrument cluster to get out without removing the wheel. Not a big deal unless you have an air-bag, then you have to take some simple precautions. Hope this helps.

The biggest problem with using copper, both for fuel lines and for brake lines, is that it doesn't rust and fall apart sufficently quickly (which is why car manufacturers don't use it!).

I'd be inclined to check the RH metal suspension pipe to the strut ( Cit ref 5270EC) as these are a common failure point in this area and may be the cause of the leak.
If this is not the case, and you are sure that the LHM is actually leaking from under the strut gaiter, I would imagine that a replacement strut may be in order.

I believe the auto box fitted to the 2.1 is a 4HP-18 which is also fitted to the 3 ltr of which I have two. Funily enough both have failed.
The 4HP-18 box from ZF is the most heavily modified box they've ever produced and it states in their official repair manual that if the box has done more than 30k miles replace all the friction...

My Xantia is starting to wear one of it's rear tyres on the inside, I'm presuming this is the bearings having failed (I've owned three Bx's and changed the bearings on all three). is the circuit diagram for the xantia turbodiesel. Unfortunately most of the text is in Russian or German, though if you can understand a circuit diagram it should help anyway. Hi Ed, check the earth lead bolted to the engine/gearbox.
The ZX will have a pre-engaged starter, I suspect you bypassed the solenoid with the screwdriver, that is, went from the battery in to the starter out terminals on the solenoid.
This will spin the motor sure enough, but without energising the solenoid the starter pinion wont be engaged with...

Over the last few months, I have posted a number of threads relating to.. you've guessed it.. hydraulic issues.
Symptoms included 'steaming LHM', 'Bubbling LHM', and a stuck rear height corrector, as well as inconsistent power steering and the nail in the coffin was a leaking pump.
Well, I bit the bullet and replaced the pump with a friend today....

The only thing I can think of is the ball race (thrust bearing ) on top of the suspension strut, they are'nt sealed to well from what I can remember.
Get someone to turn the steering from lock to lock while you observe the top of the suspension spring, it should turn smoothly with the rest of the strut, if it does not then the bearing must be...

Scoring on the inner face of the disc is more common than on the outer with front disc brakes, I suspect this is because of the crap that get's thrown against them as the opposit wheel goes through water, resulting in bit's of grit getting between the disc and the pad.

L reg no tax/mot
needs a screen and head gasket
still runs fine has done 3500 miles with this problem a water leak at head/block joint under the diesel pump.
comes with a headset and bolts and timing belt just need to get right head gasket (notches) also comes with a unfitted new heater maxtrix .

xm cooling fans

on my 2.5 turbo diesel i cannot get the cooling fans to work correctly.if i bridge the relays the fans work,but bridging the cooling fan switch or applying 12 volts to it has no effect.voltage at the fan switch is only 5.6 volts.has anyone else had this problem?

Hi Steve, apparently there is a Bitron temperature sensor screwed into the thermostst housing, identified by a brown wiring connector, it forms part of the Bitron control system for the air conditioning system. There is also a control unit for the system but i'm not sure where it is. Hope this is of some help.

Hi Simon - When I got my Xantia - new in 1998, right from the start I was plagued with false alarms, usually at about two in the morning. The car went back to the agent several times, but eventually the fault was traced to the estate rear door. Once the lock was changed I had no further trouble.

Check for air leaks in the rubber hose that leads from the metal pipe on the bulkhead to the fuel filter. You may as well replace it and all the other crummy rubber fuel hoses Citroën supplied with the car; if they havn't started causing trouble yet, they soon will!
A cheap fix that usually solves a lot of strange problems.

Hi Pete - Are you sure that the level is correct. You can't always rely on the indicator in the dome. Put the suspension on high with the engine running. Check that the fluid level is in a position where you can just reach it with a finger.
