Given the number of 'After-sales campaign' notices concerning Takarta Airbags I have been made aware of when looking up parts from PSA for members, I thought I would post a link to the following documentary that may be informative concerning the issue with these igniters.

According to Takata, the chemicals in the airbags’ explosive charge can...

Disruption to Parts Service

As you may be aware, the consolidation of the old PSA to the Stellantis Group systems has resulted in both a merge of data tools and a requirement to migrate PSA accounts to Stellantis Systems.

This has caused some problems for organisations like ours and the Team are currently looking at the best way forward. This...

Xantia Suspension

Strap wrenches are pretty useless for sphere removal. For the front spheres, you need at least a chain wrench, preferably a proper sphere remover (see GSF). If you ever get round to the rear spheres, these can be real bu**ers! Don't release hydraulic presure until you have cracked the joint, otherwise you can end up screwing the hydraulic pipes...

Well, its possible, but is it worth the hassle?
Provided the ZX you wish to use for the conversion car has an XU series engine (ie 1.6/1.8/1.9/2.0 petrol or 19D/19TD) then yes, you could fit a 2.0 turbo (XU10J2TE) or BX 16v (XU9J4) as the external dimensions of the XU series engines are all the same.
But (and a big but)think of the hassle....

Sounds like youv'e got relay problems. Try and locate which relay is buzzing; remove it and check the condition of the connectors. Play in steering wheel

by Dave Burns » 31 Aug 2002, 01:16

First post

While sorting the airbag fault out on my Xant I noticed some play at the top of the shaft, wanting to investigate it I half heartedly tried to prize the oil seal out but couldn't grab it, after feeling the shaft again the play was gone so something had been upset.
It only lasted a few day's and its now back again but in those few day's I had...

Does anyone know where I can get a new steering column for a 1995 Xantia TD SX? as there is play at the steering wheel bush. I have investigated but it seem you can't just replace the bush as I have done before with other cars, you need a complete column. I am unhappy because the car has only done 46000 miles and it is an MOT failable fault.

Squealing belts and hot oil !!

by alan s » 30 Aug 2002, 16:45

First post

Sorry about the e-mail...I'm having nightmares with it at the moment; one day it works, then it doesn't, then it does, and so on ad infinitum
These types of problems are always a bit of a hit & miss affair. My initial thought was pressure regulator and I still tend that way. Are you sure that this P/R is definitely not faulty? The reason I say...

Last post

I contacted the forum a while back about a squealing drive belt on the HP pump on
my BX.
I made the time old mistake of selling the car to a friend of mine, and he is again having the problem. I must add that the reason I washed my hands of the car (finally) was that the clutch went, and the noise then stopped completely. I thought (wrongly) that...

ZX/306 GLOW PLUGS

by NiSk » 30 Aug 2002, 12:58

First post

According to my BERU catalogue, the ZX turbo had one model of glowplug from March 1991 until April 1994 and another from May 1994 onwards.
The 306 XRDT and XTDT only has one model listed; from 1993 onwards, and that's the same type as the ZX from May 94 onwards.
//NiSk

Last post

Dear All,
Finally swapped over engine from 306 to ZX. Not too tricky, only had to swap over a couple of water pipes. The 306 engine had no oil level sensor - weird. Just a quick question though. Are the glow plugs for the 306 and ZX turbo diesel engines the same (resistance wise)?
Cheers.

Diesel Injectors

by Dave Burns » 30 Aug 2002, 02:17

First post

Do you mean engine oil, if so then no.
Do you mean diesel oil (fuel), if so then possible.

Either way don't touch them yourself other than removing them from the engine, their opening pressure is precicely set, if you disturb them your engine will sound like a bag of chisles, if you have to replace one you should replace them all for the same...

Hi peeps
Problem with a 19RD BX (1.9 XUD9 engine)
I have a feeling that one of my injectors/injector seals is shot. There is oil about an inch up the second injector and over the front of the engine, but not on the other injectors.
Does this sound like the injector is to blame? Is it possible to replace just the seals? how easy/impossible is it to...

Shudder on tapping brakes lightly

by andy99 » 30 Aug 2002, 01:36

I had the same problem on my xantia but then it went away. On my last car the same problem was warped discs. But im not too sure what the problem is here. May be its something to do with the accumulator sphere?? (that was only a rough guess, so dont laugh if im completely wrong!!)
Maybe Dave knows, if he reads this, He's the expert!

My citroen xantia 1995 16 valve 1.8 litre has a shudder when braking. I changed the front discs and brake pads and it improved significantly. However after a few miles drive the problem seems to be returning. Could it be the brakes need to bleed. My mechanic friend does not think that it is the problem. The shudder seems to get worse when brakig...

Sphere removal tool

by Zummerman » 29 Aug 2002, 20:12

First post

Hi Chris,
I paid about £30 for the Pleiades version about a year ago. It arrived the day after I ordered. It's magic and had the rear spheres off my XM very quickly when all other devices had failed. Sorry I've got no experience of the Andyspares version but I suspect it's a similar thing.

Last post

Hello all again,
A sphere change is looming as my ride quality isn't the best at present, along with rear height corrector cleaning, flushing etc.
So, I think this time I shall buy a real removal tool (to save some cursing and broken chain wrenches). Understandably the pleiades band wrench sounds an appropriate decision - does anyone know the...

Another intermittant interior fan?

by NiSk » 29 Aug 2002, 18:09

First post

If you have the simple version of the A/C (i.e. not ECC)then a common fault is the two drive transistors for the fan. They are darlington pairs and burn out if you are unlucky. They sit on a circuit board behind the control panel. I think Radiospares can match them.

Hello all,
My interior fan (or blower motor, depending where you're from) has become intermittant again ('96 TDLX with A/C). The ignition switch, being the obvious answer was replaced not long ago when the problem last surfaced so isn't likely to be the cause. Wiggling the key doesn't help.
So, what is the next most likely answer?? Assuming I...

Wobbly ZX Speedo Needle

by volcane305 » 29 Aug 2002, 02:21

First post

Hi I've seen three zx speedos wobble badly at around 60-70 mph. I first changed the cable which helped a little I don't know why. The problem was finally sorted by replacing the unit on the gear box. On my own car I just took the unit apart and 'cleaned' it a little which helped.

Last post

Annoys me. I've changed the speedo head, same result so must be cable or drive from gearbox. Is this a regular one? Anyone know what it is likely to be? Understand wobbly speedo quite a common Citroen problem....
Cheers all,

Door Lock for ZX - Volcane

by MiX » 29 Aug 2002, 06:20

Just contact your local citroen dealer. They will code the new lock with your existing key. So you only need one key. At least that's what I did when i replaced mine.

Over the weekend someone broke into my ZX and damaged the driver side door lock. Now it does not work - well it can't lock from inside or out. Does anyone know where I can get a new lock and will that mean have a new key just for the driver side door and the old (former) key for the ignition and passenger door?

Xantia ABS light staying on

by alan s » 28 Aug 2002, 18:22

I would say FOS is the culprit. Regards the readings, I wouldn't lose too much sleep over them as my personal thoughts rightly or wrongly would be that if the balance are pretty even, then it is fair to assume they are all OK.
When you replace the sensor, I suggest that you clean the serrated wheel on the one being replaced and the other three as...

A work mate had this happen regular on his TD SX Rreg. usually when he stopped for fuel, the short stop you also speak of, the car wouldn't start again under its own steam but curiously enough would start with a jump, even though it was being turned over fast enough by its own battery.
The cure was to replace the electronic's concerning anti-theft...

I have a 1994 Citroen Xantia with a slow hop in the brake pedal. The brakes come on and off slowly and can be felt in the pedal. The abs is working correctly, and anyway the hop is too slow. Front discs are not at fault as they are new and the hop is there when the car is stopped. It feels like a hydraulic problem. Anyone any ideas?

Xantia hop in brake pedal

by NiSk » 28 Aug 2002, 12:44

First post

Is the hop in the brake pedal connected to any clicking from the accumulator sphere regulator? Could be that your sphere's flat and you're feeling the pulses from the hyr. pump?
Otherwise it sounds like a fault in the ABS hydraulic regulator. Could be worthwhile checking earthing points and all ABS electrical connectors for bad contact.

Xantia 1.8 (8v)

by Dave Burns » 28 Aug 2002, 04:40

First post

The clicking sound is the regulator cutting in/out, can be caused by flat (lost its charge of high pressure gas) accumulator sphere, or a generally worn hygraulic system causing internal leakage, though a looked after car with less than 150 000 miles on it should have a pretty good hydraulic system still.
The sphere which will require re-gassing...

OK,
You do need 2 N45366 REAR SPHERE-NEW XANTIA 1.9TD/2L NON HYD Hatchback, thats the easy bit.

The 1st problem that you mention is normally caused by the failure of the door switch on the driver's side, that ot the connection to it is corroded (quite common).
As regards the horn problem, what happens is that the trumpets become blocked up with road dirt etc. The only solution is to either fit new trumpets and piping to the existing...

I don't think its a door switch...

I suspect you are talking about the tensioner on the timing belt? if so I have no doubt that Haynes is talking about a Seems tester (they usually do) which although is probably doing it by the book has a few flaws not the least of which from what I've seen & heard, would be either finding one or finding one that still works and someone who...
