I doubt the piece of plastic holding the cable to the floor will cause an issue with the air bag light, but an intermittent loose connection in the plug and socket almost certainly will. Check for a good electrical connection within. Look...

306 boot interior light problem

The switch is hidden inside the hatch door. You have to remove the trim of the hatch door to expose the switch. It is a level switch which shuts off when the boot door is closed. If I could remember correctely, you have to bend the arm of the switch so that it senses the level correctely.
Having said all this, why don't you try checking the fuse...

These engines really don't get moving until that kind of revs (4500+), so short of it being dirty injectors it could mean someone doing a diagnostic check.
How long have you owned the car, because if it's a recent purchase, most new owners get caught with this. After a while, you tend to drive with plenty of revs on the tacho and use the gearbox...

Recently my 2000 406 has been getting wet/damp in the middle of the rear seats when it's raining.
It doens't only happen when I'm driving but the seats also seem to get wet when the car has just been standing still in the rain.

The orange light is the Engine auto diagnostic warning indicator.
It is basically tell you that there is a fault with the Ignition/fuel injection systems.
It could be a faulty sensor or something as simple as a poor connection to a sensor.

Yes check the black four pin plug and socket on the injection pump, clean the contacts and if it looks necessary (and possible) squeeze the females in a bit
Might you have disturbed it some while playing around with the EGR valve, by the way leaving it blocked wont cause any problems for a diesel, as you have discovered they prefer it that way,...

I have a 96, 406 sri Turbo, and yesterday when I attempted to start the car I found the battery was flat. A couple of mates gave me a push where I had no problem starting but did notice the headlights were on, although, they weren't actually switched on. I assume that you mean a 1.9D 405? There was certainly no 1.6 Diesel.
Yes, the hubs will fit as all 405 front hubs are the same and share the same wheel bearing.
However the driveshafts will not interchange so readily.
405 1.9D (normally aspirated) shafts are different than the 1.9 SRi.

Sorry to have to say this but I think the head gasket is the problem, the fact that there's nothing in the oil means little, the gasket can fail between cylinders, between coolant channels and cyliners or between oil gallerys and cylinders.
I had exactly the same happen on a ZX td a while back, nothing untill the engine was reved then great big...

It's either your plug leads; best found by removing the centre cover on the rocker cover and starting the car at night and slowly raising to a fast idle, then look down the area beneath the cover for the tell tale sparks. Or, where the LT plug goes into your coil.
This plug contains + as wll as - terminals. Grime gets down inside the actual socket...

We have a 98 XSI, and the idle can be erratic if the battery has been flat, or it has stood far a few days. It sorts itself out after a couple miles after the ecu does its 'learning process'.
The stepper motor can be cleaned as a temporary measure.

My 306 1.6 XR is suffering from intermittent lack of PAS. It is most noticible during reversing when the steering is turned fully to the left. The steering stiffens during reversing with full left lock and then frees up when the steering is turned to the right again accompanied by a clonk sound. If you've had a driveshaft changed and a new oil seal wasn't put in the housing, that might be the cause of your oil loss. Give the transmission a spray with gunk and when it's all clean, any leak will show up. To check the oil level, put the car on level ground, remove the n/s wheel and any wheel arch liner covering the end of the engine bay....

I am going to fit new front brake pads to my 406. I want to get everything ready before I jack it up.
The haynes manual says to hold the lower guide pin bolt with a slim open ended spanner.
Can anyone please tell me the size of spanner required? and how slim is slim?

Pug 405 166k miles. Near-side needs replacement. I was hoping to mark ends of torsion bar / anti-roll bar against trailing arm to retain ride hieght etc. and basically pull trailing arm off bars and out of suspension cross tube. Is this a reasonable job or a pig? Someone mentioned cross tube problems due to rust/age (10 1/2 years).

hi, i have a 2000 206 aswel and my central locking started playing up. i took it to peugeot and it was the central locking actuators so the whole system had to be replaced at around £200 for the part plus the time it cost them to diagnose the fault! the car is a nightmare, only had it 4 months and its been in and out of the garage constantly!

I've a 00 206 and the passenger door locking mechanism is dodgy.
I took it to an auto electrician and he said he can't get the part but the main dealers are talking €200 for the part alone without fitting.

sounds very like a stepper motor fault to me,but if it is the ECU i dont know anyone off hand who repairs them,try a search on google, but the code for the transponder imobiliser will have to be programed into it (if it has an imobiliser that is)

General service, plugs, oil and air filter, antifreeze is a peice of p**s. Take you an hour tops with a basic tool kit. Go to locol motor factors and buy the bits £30 ish in total. The timing belt is a little more difficult but people say its about £150 at the most to do by a spcialist. It only costs £15 itself so its the labour your paying for....

405 Rear Drum Brakes

The friction surface on the inside of the drum is probably worn to a larger diameter than spec. producing a lip at the edges and it could be this that is catching as the drum rotates.
If so you will have to grind or file it off providing the drums are not too far oversize.
Manually adjust the shoes to just clear the drum after grinding, auto...

You're right to be worried; it is not right, they should not under any circumstances whirr. They've screwed it up possibly big time.
The noise could be several things.
Rubbing on the cover.
Tensioner on the way out.
Pump on the way out.
Overtightened belt.
In the case of the latter, this means that the belt is running under a higher tension than...

after having the belt fitted it was very noisy (constant whirring), upon calling the garage to find out if this is normal I was told that is was quite normal for the cambelt to sing for about 1000 miles or so.. still after 4000 miles the cambelt can still be heard, nowhere near as bad as it was just...

The digital clock will prise out from the right hand side, using a broad thin screwdriver. The connector unplugs from the rear of the clock. The dealers have a tool to get the radio out but you can make similar from some thin rod.

I have a 2000 306 HDi which I've had 18 months trouble free motoring out of. A few weeks ago the rear wiper began wiping twice just at random and wiping for ages after I sprayed the rear window.
About a week later the fuse for the rear wiper blew meaning the battery light came on, the electric windows stopped working and the light behind the clock...

When it eventually starts, what are the characteristics ?
I would prime the fuel system using the bulb in the engine bay, and then try and start. If it seems stuttery, then I would suspect a fuel pipe leak ( air getting in ).
I am having the same problems at the moment ( Xantia ), I have a slight leak in a tiny filter thingy at the bottom corner...

THE VALVE GEAR CAN GET NOISY WHEN THE CAMBELT IS COMING TO THE END OF ITS LIFE I.E. ITS STRETCHED A LOT. AND IF YOUR 405 IS ONE OF LATER ONES THE CAMBELT NEEDS TO BE CHANGED AT 72000 MILES SO YOUR WILL BE 1000 OVER. EARLY ONES ARE 48000 MILES. IF I WERE YOU ID GET IT DONE ASAP BEFORE THE ENGINE GOES POP WHEN IT BREAKS.

In Haynes it says I should use a special tool to set the tension and if I dont have one I should go to a dealer to get it measured after replacement. I seem to remember that a BX GTi or 16V use the same pump, if yours is a Bosch drop a line and I'll check as this same pump is also used on many BMW's. Should be a Bosch number on the old pump.

I have a 405 1.9 Mi16 and it's got a starting problem.
Doesn't matter if the engines hot or cold, if I turn the engine off and restart it within about 10 to 15 minutes it fires up immediately. But any longer and it'll crank for a good 5-10 seconds before jumping into life. I'm thinking the fuel pump has seen better days, or maybe the non-return...
