peugeot 406 1.9dt miss

i have a peugeot 406 1.9dt which the engine is knocking,
when you listen to the exaust note it sounds like it is missing a beat, i have losened all the injector pipes one at a time and lisened for change in engine noise, all injectors when lisened too had a noise change.
the car pulls well and stars okay on the 2nd blast of the glow plugs
has anyone got any ideas?

Is it there at all engine speeds or does it gradualy fade as speed increases.
Does speed make no difference to the noise or does it stop abruptly at a particular engine speed.
Is it really a missfire, does the engine move (vibrate) on its mounts in time to the noise.

its at the hihger rev range it only does it sometime its like a flutter when reved

Could be a sticky injector, fuel contamination, intermittent timing fault from bad electrical contact (ECU model).
Whats the mileage, even at high mileage it shouldn't need more than one shot of the plugs to start it.
