Hi
If I remember correctly the engine management light comes on when a fault has occured with one of the many sensors associated with the engine such as anti pinking sensors, air temp, pressure etc. Under such conditions the management system will revert to preset parameters which are basically 'safe' settings i.e. you can drive around but...

I had a similar problem with a BX . . shortly before the ignition lock failed completely due to a poor contact in the switch block (which is attached to the rear of the lock tumbler).
I don't think the ignition lock was designed to get hot, so I would suspect that you are on the verge of the same type of problem!

Hi,
This is not an answer to your questin but if you get one it will probably be by someone who can explain why one would do this and will it lessen reliability. If not then it sounds a must! I am interested because I have a Turbo D myself.

Mat,
You can't create problems through having too much LHM in the system. It has a breather/overflow system that simply lets it go; over everything you don't want it to usually.
There is a possibility that you are losing more than you realise whilst travelling. I presently have a leak on the steering box of my CX and whilst it only leaves a drop...

Price?

If the linkages are the same or similar to tthe BX then I would look there and also the clutch cable (if you have one). The linkages can get very dry, or partlially disconnect. Look also for binding on the chassis/engine compartment.
If a clutch cable is fitted this may need adjustment.
Why they disappear when warmed up sounds like an...

Replace the whole switch, electrical part of it that is, not the lock.
Get one from a scrapper for next to nothing, or a pretty penny from you know where.
Good luck
Dave

There is nothing available at the present time that's better than regular oil and filter changes using good quality oil and filters.
Most of the concoctions on the shelf contain PTFE (Teflon), this is a solid in suspension, your oil filter is designed to remove such solids, the result of using it can be a clogged filter causing oil starvation,...

assuming you mean the nearside. They're held in with a snap ring and the only system I've succeded with is with a big nail bar. You should try and get two down there and jar it evenly. I've had them both out on several occasions for one reason or another and when I needed a new one it came from Anyspares and was a remanufactured GKN effort from...

Your snowflake button (clue in there somewhere) is the air conditioning switch, radiator fan's should come on when it is pressed.
The wires going to your seat are actually going to the seat belt pre-tentioners, which are explosive cartridges that fire at the same time as the air bag in the event of an impact, they take the slack out of the seat...

I think your problem will be mentioned here. (near the end of 3rd block of text)

A good time to aquaint your self with the manual stop lever on the pump.
Good luck
Dave

Good one!
On my Xantia they are 1,050 ohms.
I don't know how the ECU self tests, but I guess that plus or minus 10% would make any difference. I would imaginge that the higher impedence coil you have been sold would work - could well generate a slightly higher voltage. However, the ECU self test MAY reject it. Worth a go perhaps. Don't forget that...

Trevor,
This may be some helpo. It's for a BX but according to David he really knows his stuff. Should be a good starting point.

Haynes do a manual for the Peugeot 206 with diesel and turbo-diesel up to 2001, so I imaging it would cover the HDi engine, best to check with Haynes, though.

Has your glow time been reduce consitently since the change of glowplugs? If so I would suspect that the wrong plugs (e.g. rapid heat) have been fitted.
Try repeatedly re-glowing before starting and see if that helps.
If not, you may have suffered the same fault as i had on my XM TD12 - one of the push-on spade connectors (the one that goes to...

Rip out engine and replace with 2.0 HDi
Colin (JUST KIDDING)

John,
before you go for the MOT make sure you give it a good thrash down the motorway at 70mph in fourth gear to get the engine nice and hot. make sure when you get there that they check the emissions first coz if you leave it ticking over the thing can get a bit clogged again.
if this fails try putting some injector cleaner in the fule filter...

Has anyone had problems with alignment of replacement windscreens? Mine seems to protrude slightly at the top of the windscreen, and the near side seems to protrude more than the off side. Every other xantia I have looked at seems to fit snuggly to the bodywork. My last windscreen did leak water during a downpour, but the new one (although badly...

If the neither the front or rear suspension will rise, this would point to a sudden loss of hydraulic pressure in the suspension circuit, either a serious lhm leak or sudden diaphragm failure causing an internal leak, both will lead to a loss or momentary loss of hydraulic pressure in the case of the diaphragm, this pressure drop would be sensed...

Probably the easiest thing to do is to use the Sports steering wheel / upper column from a Visa GTi.

Hi all,
My '96TD does exactly the same thing when parked at some angles - which I think has been caused by having a replacement windscreen fitted at some time in the cars life and the plastic scuttle plate at the base of the windscreen not being properly re-sealed. This allows water to run under the plate and into the vent down to the blower which...

What's the graphic on the light, i.e (o), (p) etc.
My TD has electronic speedo, the speed sensor is on the diff housing, not sure if they are all this way or if some are cable driven.

Not just ball joints on the steering dry & making the binding noises by any chance?
I have found that on BX's a lot of creaks & groans from the front end eminate from ball joints contaminated with moisture are the cause of a lot & can be removed quite simply & cheaply. These can easily transmit through steering rods and sway bars and can have you...

Put the vehicle at service height (height control at lowest level). On the front of the gearbox, just around where it meets the engine, there's a lump of metal supporting an hydraulic sphere (the accumulator sphere). Underneath this lump there is a screw with a 12 mm hex head. This is the hydraulic pressure release screw. Turn it MAX 1 complete...

Hi Adrian,
I really would like to offer a solution, but I have exactly the same problem with my ZX!!!
The central locking plip does'nt always work, depite new batteries, although key operation is fine, and also it does sometimes unlock itself.
Someone suggested to me that one of the door locking solenoids could be at fault, they stick, but I don't...

Has it still got it's timing belt in one piece, if so is it moving when you operate the starter, they can also loose their teeth besides breaking, if all is ok there it could be ignition or fueling electronics, can't offer you any help on these i'm affraid, hope you get it sorted.
Good luck
Dave

Removing it is not a good idea. I have also heard of some people replacing it with a spring.............!
We do the damper, Bosch as orginal for £52 + vat. Well its a saving.
I have this problem on my ZX TD, a temporary cure was to spray the whole damper unit and the flexible joints with WD40 then silicone. Its helped for a bit, but I'm going to...

I`ve a chance to swap my GTi for a GTi 4 x 4, but the latter`s diff locking switch is missing from the centre console. Need someone who knows why this might have been removed - hopefully not bad news !

Hi,
I am having a problem with the fuel gauge of my ZX 2.0 8-valve flickering. When I fill up to full tank, the needle indicates full correctly but it flickers incessantly. Is this a common problem?
Saravana

Don't believe all you read on the internet, if brake valves were shot after a mere 50.000 km's there would be a big stink about it, I have had two Xantia's well past that mileage with little difference in the operation of the brakes/suspension.
Your problem's may well be compounded with the extra complication of the Hydractive system, the first...

In any other car this would be the brake master cylinder, it is attached to the bulkhead or firewall in the engine compartment and is operated by the brake pedal.
Dave

Hi James,
Have a look at my previous post, suspension/steering problem . This may solve the problem and is a relatively easy and cheap fix. If it works let me know, if not and you find something else, post that as well since if you have the problem, no doubt others will as well. Zx's are great but they do seem to be prone to irritating little...

You can fit the clear indicators to any AX. If fitting clear to previously amber, make sure the unit has the orange-bulb type holder (different pin location).
The indicator unit's wiring plugs into the car'sloom the same, although you have to fiddle inside the wing a bit.

sorry forgot to add that it's a ZX Volcane 1.9 non-cat J reg...

Hi,
I would suspect that they are streach-bolts but could be wrong.
When I did the head on my ZX Volcane petrol, three of them broke and it was a bugger of a job to get the correct insert and drill out the bolt-ends (ally block corroded to the bolts!).
Anyway I think you wont have the same problem as you'll have a iron block.
As for the turbo...

There's a very easy way of checking XM's and I don't see why it should'nt apply to Xantias as well.
Lower the car to the lowest ride hight (service position)with engine running. Measure hight at a siutable place (e.g. frpm ground to highest point in front and rear wheel arch.
Raise car to highest postion with engine running. Repeat measurement....

Citroen BX19 TRS, E reg 57k miles excellent condition. 12 months MOT. Clutch needs work, niggly squeal on HP belt. Brand new Webber Carb, new Hyd Regulator and Accumulator and rear exhaust. Recon HP pump last month. Any interest in parts or whole car, email me.

Brian,
Refer to the site of our local friendly GP in Japan.
I think Yohsuke's (MD) site explains this well

There is a difference between LHD and RHD as is explained on the site.

I'm afraid to say you will need a little more heat than a hair drier. more like Oxy-Acet kit.
John

Pull the connector from the radiator mounted temperature switch, bridge the wires, if fans start new thermo switch required, assuming the temperature that triggers it is being reached.
If still no joy, trace wiring back from rad switch, relays aren't usually far away.
Good luck
Dave

You may have to alter the height of the rear height corrector, which is not as hard as you may think, if you have access to a 4 poster ramp.
Put the car on the ramp, while it is running, lower and raise car a few times to settle suspension, put into normal position. Raise the ramp (after chocking wheels). Locate the rear height corrector, and you...

Hi
I only have a Haynes manual for BX petrol engines, but the setting for each of the different engines is identical for all of them at 1.0 kgf m or 7.2 lbf ft in old money.
A shame the BX manual only covered petrol!

I have lost both headlamps, dashlamps, fog lamps and sidelamps on my 1999 Xantia HDi Exclusive. All fuses checked and double checked by autoelectrician found to be ok. Problem traced to a missing 12V to the headlamp stalk switch(a temporary supply cured all but dashlights)could possibly a failed connector or broken cable but I cannot get a circuit...

My ZX TD appears to have a problem, It is loosing water, and there is pressure in the radiator. There is no oil in the water. It sounds a bit like a cylender head gasket problem. Any ideas. How difficult and how long will it take to do.

Sorry to say but I think you're right.
My idea of a head gasket job is a two weekends job.
Drain oil...

Jimbo,
Best advice I can give is to re-post on the XM-L Yahoo forum, this problem has been covered, a great bunch of sympathetic XM owners.
Cheers

Matt,
Sounds as though you're pointing in the right direction. Sticky H/C's aren't a problem here in Oz mainly due to us not having salty snow (or unsalty rain for that matter) to drive in.
My thoughts are that patience and plenty of cleaning will help. Sometimes in cases like this, ordinary engine oil or engine oil diluted with kerosene will not...

If it is the glow plugs (quite likely) then, in my experience, you can get away with changing only 3. I've done it twice - once on a ZX TD and, recently, on my C15D van. It starts with a bit of a chug on 3 pots but a SMALL amount of throttle has it running sweetly on all 4 in a matter of seconds. From then on it's fine.

It seems quite common for the BX to be fitted with 175/70x14 tyres instead of 165's. Two of the BX's Ive owned in the past had been fitted with 175s by previous owners, and it didnt seem to make any obvious difference to the handling etc.
Make sure you change them in axle pairs though, one of my cars had a 165 on one side & a 175 on the other. I...
