Hi Jimbo,
Fiddly, but not difficult. The Haynes manual gave me almost enough clues. I assume that your cable is the self-adjusting type. If so you'll need to use something appropriate to jam the cable outer in position in the frame that holds the bellcrank (where it comes out of the bulkhead) so that you can extend the cable to locate it in the...

Interesting one.
I'd be inclined to check the RH metal suspension pipe to the strut ( Cit ref 5270EC) as these are a common failure point in this area and may be the cause of the leak.
If this is not the case, and you are sure that the LHM is actually leaking from under the strut gaiter, I would imagine that a replacement strut may be in order.
I...

Hi Chris - If you've replaced the battery and replaced the starter motor and the fault is still there, there must be something wrong with the wiring. Disconnect the spade terminal on the solenoid and connect a test bulb or voltmeter between the end of the wire and a good earth. Turn the ignition key to the start position and see if the wire is...

Hello Marski,
I believe the auto box fitted to the 2.1 is a 4HP-18 which is also fitted to the 3 ltr of which I have two. Funily enough both have failed.
The 4HP-18 box from ZF is the most heavily modified box they've ever produced and it states in their official repair manual that if the box has done more than 30k miles replace all the friction...

Hi Gavin - As others have remarked on this, and other forums - Haynes aren't what they used to be. I've also noticed the lack of instruction on replacing rear arm bearings. I haven't needed to do the job (yet) on my Xantia but it looks a similar job to the BX. I understand that after 1995 on some models only, a shim was inserted to centre the arm...

If the estate is as the hatch, the alarm is behind the glove box, it or its wiring connector's could be taking rain water via the windscreen seal.

Well, here goes again:

is the circuit diagram for the xantia turbodiesel. Unfortunately most of the text is in Russian or German, though if you can understand a circuit diagram it should help anyway. As i mentioned to Dave1, there are a lot of goodies on this site, so peruse around it a bit an see if you can get any help.

Hope this answers your question:

Lots of other goodies on that site if you strip off the last few catalogues from the address.

Hello! I don't know if any other companies make one but Citroen don't, that's the answer i got anyway when i asked at my local dealership. I used an old 1 litre dilute drink bottle, the neck is just the right size, for an AX anyway, i think the Saxo is the same. Cut the bottom off, put some silicone sealer round the neck then follow the...

Hi Ed, check the earth lead bolted to the engine/gearbox.
The ZX will have a pre-engaged starter, I suspect you bypassed the solenoid with the screwdriver, that is, went from the battery in to the starter out terminals on the solenoid.
This will spin the motor sure enough, but without energising the solenoid the starter pinion wont be engaged with...

Over the last few months, I have posted a number of threads relating to.. you've guessed it.. hydraulic issues.
Symptoms included 'steaming LHM', 'Bubbling LHM', and a stuck rear height corrector, as well as inconsistent power steering and the nail in the coffin was a leaking pump.
Well, I bit the bullet and replaced the pump with a friend today....

The only thing I can think of is the ball race (thrust bearing ) on top of the suspension strut, they are'nt sealed to well from what I can remember.
Get someone to turn the steering from lock to lock while you observe the top of the suspension spring, it should turn smoothly with the rest of the strut, if it does not then the bearing must be...

Hi Vanny - Have a look at the electric pump on the power steering.

Scoring on the inner face of the disc is more common than on the outer with front disc brakes, I suspect this is because of the crap that get's thrown against them as the opposit wheel goes through water, resulting in bit's of grit getting between the disc and the pad.
Car's of yesteryear had splash plates on the front's, now you only see them on...

I have a 1996 Xantia 1.9TD VSX with a sports mode button just in front of the height selector. The problem is the rear suspension goes rock hard sometimes on speed humps or rough roads. I've just had a new rear height corrector fitted, and this didn't change a thing. The car raises and lowers OK. The only thing I can add is this problem appeared...

on my 2.5 turbo diesel i cannot get the cooling fans to work correctly.if i bridge the relays the fans work, but bridging the cooling fan switch or applying 12 volts to it has no effect.voltage at the fan switch is only 5.6 volts.has anyone else had this problem?

Hi Steve, apparently there is a Bitron temperature sensor screwed into the thermostst housing, identified by a brown wiring connector, it forms part of the Bitron control system for the air conditioning system. There is also a control unit for the system but i'm not sure where it is. Hope this is of some help.
Regards, Rich.

I experienced a similar problem. After checking and lubricating everything I could think of Door alignment, striking plate, locks etc the solution turned out to be a replacement drivers door lock. This was on a L reg SX TD rp 6170. If this happens to you the electrics are tricky as the new lock had a differnt plug to the original and sourcing a...

Hi Simon - When I got my Xantia - new in 1998, right from the start I was plagued with false alarms, usually at about two in the morning. The car went back to the agent several times, but eventually the fault was traced to the estate rear door. Once the lock was changed I had no further trouble.

I am the owner of Citroen ZX 1.8 Estate with XU7 engine. Recently one of the radiator cooling fax stop working and I got it replaced. Both low and high speed fan running fine with the aircond on. However I notice that if I drive a slope or climbing up hill (gear drop), the temprature increase up to more that 90 and sometimes 100 depends on how...

Check for air leaks in the rubber hose that leads from the metal pipe on the bulkhead to the fuel filter. You may as well replace it and all the other crummy rubber fuel hoses Citroën supplied with the car; if they havn't started causing trouble yet, they soon will!
A cheap fix that usually solves a lot of strange problems.

Hi Pete - Are you sure that the level is correct. You can't always rely on the indicator in the dome. Put the suspension on high with the engine running. Check that the fluid level is in a position where you can just reach it with a finger.

Hi Glenn - You can't be too far away from Pleiades in Sawtry, Cambridgeshire. What they don't know about Citroen hydraulics would fit on a pin head.

Its a good sign alright Alan! 500 posts on Citroen is a bit of a milestone.
Whats interesting is the vehicles and problems that people post about, Xantia, BX, some XM and a bit of ZX make up the vast majority.
When I thought about this I realised that for 2cv, AX etc, they are simple cars and most people had them sussed a long time ago. Most...

Some kind rusky (or is it czech?) has laid up a number of XM wiring diagrams on the following site:

There's also a fair bit of mechanical stuff there, and not just for XM's if you leave the last 4 catalogues off the I.P. address and wander around a bit.

Hello There,
I just followed the Haynes manual and found it really straight forward. I didn't completely remove to steering, just disconnected and supported it on the floor, then cut the corner from the old matrix as it came out so it would clear the steering mounting bracket. I then cut the housing as discribed with an electric jigsaw and the new...

Hi Steve - Do you know if the accumulator sphere has been changed in the last three years?

If you've recently got the car, I'd question whether the previous owner had been servicing the brakes. The simplest and most likely cause of this delayed-release is that the pads have become stuck or rusted-up in the calipers, so that they cannot retract away from the disc when the pressure is released. If it's got like this, it shows that the...

Have you got a Haynes for it and do you mean plug on the loom or on the actual motor unit.
Dave

Hi Steve, ABS is standard on the 19td SX so I would think it was also on the 2.1td, the valve block should be between the LHM reservoir and the battery.
Don't know how long you have had your car, but Some despicable people will resort to all sorts of trickery to get a car through the m.o.t, like when a fault occurs with the ABS, instead of fixing...

Can't see why not.
The AX GT (13 wheels version)uses the same calipers and pads (ATE system) as your AX10.

From what you are saying it sounds like that there may be a problem with the servo unit itself (not uncommon). Another potential cause of this fault is the servo valve, the part where the vacuum pipe joins onto the servo.

Might be wise to have the tracking checked and look for any signs of accident damage, suspension geometry could be out if it's been in a scrape.
If it was a one of the ealry model's with a flow distributor, it might be possible to adjust the assistance, but on the later car's where the steering is on a seperate circuit you are stuck with it, short...

Hi Mark - Have a browse at www.intapart.com -- they may be able to help.

Hi Steve - I don't know about 16V's but if it's the same as the XUD's, look for the pick-up around the flywheel housing.

You seem to have it fairly well covered. You might also take a look at the camshaft end seals. Also before refitting it, check the auxiliary drivebelt and the tensioner pulley for smooth running.

It sound's like a non return valve is shot, if it's in the pump the only way to fix it might be to renew it, they are listed in the online shop from Andyspares by the way, does the hissing noise change when the pedal is pressed and are the brakes ok or have they gone heavy.
Dave

Of the 3 wires that run to the front door lock I would think 2 are to drive the motor, the controller has to reverse the polarity to drive the motor in both directions for locking and unlocking, the other wire being for lock postition sensing.
You might be looking at the wrong component when you say the relay box only has four wires, what year and...

The pipe leading into the rear box on my 2.1TD Xantia rusted through in less than three years from new. GS&F supplied a replacement for around £55.

When do you hear it? When the car is still and you bounce the front corner? Or when you're driving?

Hi Steve - There's a little plastic screw on the bottom left side, to the rear of the housing. You'll need pliers to turn it. The fuel won't freely run out because of the vacuum. If you don't wamt to pump it, loosen the four screws on the top. In three and a half years of ownership I've still got to find a drop of water in there.

The reason your Xantia stays up is because it is fitted with anti-sink valves and sphere. When you start the car, normal pressure builds up and releases the anti-sink valves. The car then drops due to apparent leakage from the rear spheres.
Depending on the time lapse between when you leave the car and when that awfull sinking feeling occurs, the...

When trying to replace my sisters clutch cable on her 1996 Saxo 1.4i VSX I managed to detach it from the pedal and also from gearbox end. The trouble then started because I could not get the end of the cable through the bulkhead because of two metal bars which allow no room for movement or removal. In the Haynes manual these are not mentioned. It...
