I've had my BX17 TZD for about 4 weeks and have covered most minor repairs eg new brake pads, stop solenoid, new LHM, thermostat, belts etc. and am about to tackle the frequently ticking regulator (about every 6 seconds at normal driving height). I know frequent ticking could be due to a faulty accumulator sphere, sticking reg valve or internal...

Hi I have just fitted a quinten hazell timing belt to my 203,000 miles BX diesel. my problem is is there a direction for the timing belt i have fitted it with writing towards the engine and there is no arrow marked on it, Also the haynes manuel states to change at 45,000 miles but i have always changed it at 36,000 miles which is right?

Does anyone have a tip to fit the main feed & return diesel fuel pipes, at the tank end it looks like I'll need fingers 6 long & 3mm thick to reach the rubber hoses in order to push in the metal pipe.
Or is it quite straight forward?
Any advice greatly received.
Cheers Alan

Shimmy on braking so dutifully bought new pads and discs from my local branch
(Hope I got right ones as catalogue a bit ambiguous 94 VSX Auto 2.0l 8v)
However before I worry about if they fit I need to take off calipers...
And herein problem
What type and size of drive needed - they look like torx bolts ? can someone confirm and tell me what size...

Hi
I have just bought a xantia 1.9TD. I can lock it with the first button on the key fob, but the second button doesnt do anything. The little red light comes on on the keyfob when the button is pressed so i know thats working. Neither of the two key fobs will deadlock it. I can deadlock it manually with the key, but i cant set the alarm that way!...

I have noticed that the ZX 16V has side mouldings which run the length of the car and around the wheel arches. Does anyone know where I could get a set as I dont really want to go to Citroen!! Also will they fit a 1.8i Furio???
Cheers for any help
Chris

This xantias radio suffers from very bad interferance on the am bands,
could someone tell me how to (a) get the fitted radio out of the console, and (b) the best way to get to the aerial connection on the roof aerial. as I suspect a bad co-ax connection either at the radio end or the aerial end.

Can somebody please help. I've had my xantia ('93 1.9TD hatchback)for 1 yr, straight away I replaced the warped disks with new and changed the pads..no problem since. Recently the warping sensation has come back and I've decided to change the disks straight away,no sensations anymore but..
The disks (both front) are far too hot to touch after a...

Hi All
My '94 ZX 1.9TD has just passed it's MOT* by the skin of it's gear-teeth but the tester has pointed out a few things about the brakes.
The N/S/R flexi hose is apparently badly cracked and needs to be replaced soon - I'll will be doing this job within the next week or so and would appreciate any advice about this i.e. Pit Falls and a...

Clutch on Xantia 2.0i 16v (1996) seems not to fully disengage when cold, making selection and deselection of lower gears very difficult. Effect seems to disappear when engine is warm (say 15 mins). Clutch adjustment and operation seem perfect at all other times. Maybe a sticky or stretching cable? Suggestions welcome!

Many of us have read about increasing the power of the XUD engines, by tweaking max fuelling and wastegate operation.
Now, suppose I want to do the opposite - ie. reduce the amount of fuel going into the cylinders ( and hence possible wasted fuel ).
I would like to keep the turbo in, so no blocking up the sensor pipe. I'm basically looking to run...

My ZX failed it's MOT as the track rod ends had too much play, does anyone have any advice on repairing this fault?
Is it a big job or can it be fixed fairly easily and inexpensively?
Hopefully someone may know.
Thanks

I've just bought a Xantia 2.0i VSX auto 1994 L-reg. It's in lovely nick but I feel I may have made a cardinal mistake. The suspension gets very stiff over rutted roads and paritcularly over sharp bumps (sleeping policemen etc). Also the braking feeels a bit variable. Now from the little I have just read in this forum am I looking at a common...

Hi all!!
Just thought i would pass this on in case it helps anyone else..... My dad has a '94 Xantia 1.9SXTD, a few days ago he started having problems; very bad starting from cold (okay when warm though) so i checked pre-heating system and all usual things but they were fine. As it turns out, it was caused by air getting into the fuel system, as...

As many of you may know about my prolonged Suspension / Braking problem, I thought I would pass this on.
After changing all spheres , ride height adjusters , flushing , cleaning lhm filters in petrol etc, etc. My car behaved better but not 100%.
MIRACLE CURE :- Brand new LHM Filters (£20 per set from Citroen)
Unbeleivable results.

Hi,
Me again :-(
I've found out why I have no compression on my BX GTi. The woodruff key on the camshaft pulley has sheared and the valve timing is retarded by about 120 degrees.
An inspection of the camshaft whilst rotating the engine with a screwdriver in the sparkplug hole shows that the exhaust valves are fully open at TDC.
Is this a velve...

Hi,
Could someone tell me what size Torx bit I need to undo the cylinder head bolts on a 1991 BX GTi.
Also - are they readily available or am I likely to have to specially order it?
Thanks,
Martin.

Hey guys
I have a minor but irritaing problem with a '90 AX GT that sports a Bosch Mono-Jetronic injection setup.
On cold days, when rolling up to the traffic lights and are just about to stop, you push the clutch in and the engine dies. It is easily restarted and idles perfectly afterwards, a real pain in the A.
Other than this this car runs...

I've reached desperation point with my GTi (1991 H reg - with Motronic MP3.1 engine management system).
It's been a bit down on fuel economy for some time, but in the last couple of weeks it has got really bad and will no longer run at idle.
The symptoms are that it starts fine and as long as you immediately rev it up to over 2000rpm, it continues...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the sunroof of the xantia supposed to both tilt up and slide *all* the way back? I've not paid much attention to mine but it apparantly tilts, but doesn't slide back. It goes down slightly, tries to slide back by millimeters then jams up. I can't see much of the mechanism either, does anyone know what might be...

I'd like to remove the instrument panel of my xantia in order to do something about the rattling glass which is driving me round the bend, which obviously requires the steering wheel to be removed, which requires the airbag to be removed... which requires the two screws behind the wheel securing the airbag to be removed first, wherein lies my...

I need to replace one or more glowplugs on a 96 1.9TD ZX estate. Any advice and comments?

Hi all
Does anybody know of a workshop manual for a Xsara VTS(2.0 16v)as the cr@p Haynes book doesnt cover this model and I may be under taking the challenge of fitting a new timing belt (maybe tensioners aswell as they are cheap). Is this a similar proceedure/setup as on my old BX 16v and has it still got two tensioners or just the one.
On...

Sometimes after setting the alarm on my Xantia, it goes off at random periods and occasionaly settles down. If I press the alarm button on the dash to disable the ultrasonics, this stops false alarms. Is there a way to turn down the sensativity of the ultrasonics?

My 1996 Activa central locking has started misbehaving, when the central locking button is pressed on the fob the locks set and unset about 10 times before giving up and staying unlocked. The alarm doesn't set so the car is basically unprotected. I have found that if I lean on the front passenger door and manually lock the car very slowly 50% of...

Why does my cable keep snapping, always at the joint of the plastic clip on the pedal. Its as if it has been cut off, a clean snapin the cable.
Any suggestions appreciated..

Hi
I checked my water levels recently and found slight pressure in header tank, I since checked pressure in top hose with engine running and after travelling about 100 miles the hose felt quite firm, when I loosen the cap the hose goes soft again. There is no discolouring of the water, the car starts and runs well, without any loss of water.
Could...

Well phoned Citroen and asked how much to check and regass my Xantia, £90 plus VAT but it will probably be leaking so may need more doing and we can't look at it for about four days. Phoned a little place round the corner that does trailer fridges, they said free check, and £50 to regass, and bring it straight round, went to see them, they put a...

Hello from Spain!
During last trip (Friday 14th June) to the car breaker, my XM decided to develop a new fault (appart from an intermittent electrical one... more about this on another message)
When you accelerate, sometimes a vibration develops which moves the gear change shaft (BTW, my XM has manual change) and a noise is heard at same rate as...

my 95 vsx auto has a buzzing from central dashboard seems to be above radio area.
Stops with ignition off - have looked in haynes manual but don't see any relays in this area.
Car was bought from non citroen specialist so although it has warranty loath to let them pull it apart.
Sorry this is a long shot - know its electrical but can't see...

I have a problem with the ABS on my Xantia TD. The ABS light is on constantly. I had a diagnotic check done which showed a faulty front sensor. I replaced the sensor (although this was some months later)and the light has not gone out. Is there any procedure to reset the ECU? I have had another diagnostic check but the results were could not...

Please can anyone advise me if it is possible to fit different front calipers to my ZX 1.9D Aura 1992?
The current ones are rubbish quite frankly. Do newer cars have modified calipers and is it a straight swap, will I have to change anything else apart from the caliper (I definetly need new discs and pads.....yet again!)?
Regards,
Alf

Before I start stripping things down to replace the thermostat I have a stupid question, where is the thermostat? I have xantia 1.9td.
Is it behind the fuel filter body bolted to the head or is it situated in front of the filter where the top hose attachs to the filter body.
Anyone help?
Cheers,
Steve

jsut a general question -
I've got a couple of bullseye chips on my windscreen which should be repairable (not in drivers view zone, hope MOT people agree!)
I just wondered if anyone had successfully used one of the kits you can get. The best one looks like the halfords one for £25 but thats quite alot if it doesn't work.
If its done by a pro...

Last Wednesday I fitted a new accumulator to the 2.1 Xantia. Twenty minutes saw the job done. Then it was out with the ramps to do the rears. The first half hour saw the filter clamp broken. Then it was on with the large jubilee clip and hammer. Still nothing doing, so in desperation I phoned the local GSF and Eurospares to get the proper clamp....

Dear all,
The intermittent wipe on my 97 Xantia only works occasionally - when it's not working nothing happens at all on intermittent setting and the wipers do not come on automatically when the wash/wipe is used.
Can anyone please give me a hint? I suspect there is some kind of timer/relay unit for the intermittent wipe which is on the blink....

hi all
can anyone give me some advice?
is it possible to remove the instrument panel from a 97 xantia without removing the steering wheel? my haynes manual says that you have to. is this true?
all i want to do is replace the a.b.s. warning lamp that some previous owner has pulled out to disguise the faulty a.b.s..
any help appreciated.

What is it with Citroens? I've had a couple, one good and one bad, and I keep hankering after another. The good one was a ZX diesel from new, but still had many problems; rapid disc wear, power steering pump, stupid get you home spare wheel, creaky dash. The bad one was an XM, and I spent a fortune on that and still ended up with a nail....

Used to have a Xantia 1.8i 8v petrol 1993. No problem with alarm. Now have a 1997 1.8i 16v petrol with A/C etc. Dual operation to set alarm via remote with key press to set lock and second key press to set alarm and deadlocks. Alarm will set up and flashing led indicator on dash as normal. Occasionally, the alarm activates after some hours (...

I am trying to jolt my memory regarding something I am sure I was told about some time ago and hope that perhaps someone here may know; What are the poblems associated with using copper as fuel lines?
Is it chemical reaction, fire risk or something else.
I can remember being quite astounded at the time & as we had just made some copper device up...

How difficult is it to change the cable on a 91 xm 2.0 si petrol
and can andyspares supply the cable.

I'm looking for a good garage in the Southampton area. Any recomendations. I've a good local garage but they're not to keen on anything to do with the suspension.
Thanks
