Given the number of 'After-sales campaign' notices concerning Takarta Airbags I have been made aware of when looking up parts from PSA for members, I thought I would post a link to the following documentary that may be informative concerning the issue with these igniters.

According to Takata, the chemicals in the airbags’ explosive charge can...

Disruption to Parts Service

This has caused some problems for organisations like ours and the Team are currently looking at the best way forward. This...

I have got a water leak on my 1990 AX which results in the passenger footwell is filling up with water when it rains.
It appears to be coming from above the parcel shelf on the front pillar.
I have put silicon around the windscreen which makes no difference.
Anyone had a similar problem with their AX and cures if possible?

hmmm,
To check if the starting problem is indeed caused by air entering the fuel, have you tried pumping the diesel primer bulb a few times before attempting to start the car? If doing this improves matters, then yes, air is getting into the fuel system.

The problem seemed to stop and I jsut made a mental note that I should book it in for the pump to be looked at some...

ZX 1.4 Aura loathe to start

by RichardW » 26 Dec 2002, 18:08

First post

Sounds like your starter or battery may be a bit suspect. Measure the voltage across the battery before you crank the engine - should be 12.5v or so. Less than 12 and it's knackered. Crank the engine and measure the voltage - it should go down, but not much below 10v. Measure the voltage with the engine running - should be about 14.5 v. Bad...

Hi, I'm new to this forum so please be gentle,
My zx 1.4 petrol is very reluctant to start,( engine turns over o.k. )and as I live on a hill, I've been able to get her going by bump starting her.
The interesting bit is that she starts immediatley on a bump, and runs
like clockwork thereafter, no missing or stalling.
Sometimes she will restart o.k.,...

Hydraflush procedure

by JohnD » 24 Dec 2002, 23:42

First post

The hydraflush is going to stay in the system for at least a 1000 miles so do that which is most urgent first. Probably the LHM change. The procedure is: Move the height lever to the lowest position. Open the release screw ONLY ONE TURN to depressurise the system. If necessary detach the hoses from the centre section of the reservoir (unless you...

Hi All
Can anyone talk me through the procedure step by step for putting Hydraflush in my system (Xantia 1.9D m reg)
Also I'm renewing both front spheres and the accumulator sphere - do I do this before or after the Hydraflush??
Cheers
Andy

if the thermostat housing is plastic, then your man is spot on.
You need a ZX or Xantia D thermostat if thats the case.

Following difficulties sourcing a thermostat locally, my man round the corner reckons that the 1.9 diesel in my BX TGD (late '92) is as fitted to the xantia. Is he right?

Xantia Est - water under rear seats

by allmond » 24 Dec 2002, 15:07

Hi
Do a search on sunroof postings if your car has one. I know from personal experience that the water gets to all sorts of strange places. It's always a good starting point.
Jamie

Last post

My Xantia Estate gathers water under the rear seats. The car was previously owned by my father who also experienced similar problems. He is certain that the water is not coming in from underneath the car as he has ensured that all holes are sealed. He is adamant that the water is coming in from the rear door area. The seals all appear fine. There...

Rev counter on zx

by RichardW » 26 Dec 2002, 17:51

First post

Yes, my BX TD used to do this. I just ignored it, as it was nearly scrap anyway! The sensor for the rev counter is on the back of the block where it gets covered in all manner of oil and gunge. Taking it out and cleaning it, and resetting the clearance may clear the problem.

Whistling Turbo and Brakes

by Dave Burns » 23 Dec 2002, 23:56

Swollen and leaking rubber gasket between intercooler and manifold may be.
Brake discs, the best Iv'e ever had were made by Brembo, got Bendix originals on my Xantia at the moment, buggers have only been on since August and done less than 5000 miles, but the toads are warping so I'm not impressed, going to fire the sods off and stick some more...

Hi all.
I recently posted that I was about to buy a 93k zx 1.9td aura. Well, I have it now and I have a couple of questions!
When driving I can hear a whistle whenever the turbo is on boost, from around 2000rpm. It occurs in every gear and if I lift off while accelerating it subsides, then will occur again when I accelerate. The whistle doesn't...

Engine flush / oil change intervals- ZX D

by colouredcob » 23 Dec 2002, 23:01

First post

Hi Arry,
If you dont know its service history, or the services have been neglected in the past, do your engine flush.
After that if you are going to do between 3k and 5K oil and filter changes you should never need to flush it again.
Good luck and happy christmas
Zoe

Last post

My recently new to me, 93 1.9 ZX D (non turbo) is nearly due an oil change.
Mileage is 78K and has been regularly serviced. Seems clean (for a diesel) inside, but engine oil is of course black.
I'll be doing 3K semi-synthetic changes and a genuine filter at each change from now on. It's my first diesel and I've always done this on my petrol cars....

steering gearing

by alan s » 24 Dec 2002, 02:27

Tom,
Are you referring to when you are travelling at speed or when you park or are manouvering?
If at speed, I'd suggest wheel alignment or massive understeer which would or should be curesd by a wheel alignment, if at slow speed I'd suggest looking for some massive wear within the steering gear such as the hardidisc. I drive a CX with diravi...

The BX appears to need lots of twirling in order to turn in. I know that they understeer but the helm on mine seems amazingly low geared. Do any of the other models in the range have a quicker rack that fits? (Power steered '92 TGD estate)

Thanks to all who contributed advice regarding the coolant ejection problem. I think that the problem is now solved so here are the steps that I took to isolate the problem, just in case there is anybody out there who may make use of it.

Cooling water temperature

by Rolf R » 23 Dec 2002, 00:47

On my Xantia 2.0 -00, the temperature rises high. Less than a week ago, I got the thermostat and the plasic housing changed, as there was a leaking little crack in the house. The temperatur was then around 85 centigrades. All good and well.
But now the temperature is raising again. Up to 120 degrees at most. That is the last reading on the gauge....

Vertical handbrake

by JohnD » 22 Dec 2002, 23:24

First post

Are we talking handbrake on front or back wheels. If its on the front, whip off one wheel at a time. The operating lever on the top of the caliper will move backwards when the handbrake is applied if the cable is intact. Should a replacement be necessary, it's an easy job to do.

Last post

I was doing a last bit of christmas shopping this afternoon and at my last stop I pulled the hadbrake on and it went vertical !
There seems to be some sort of grip but not a lot. I have a feeling that one of the cables may have gone.
What should I look out for ?
Rory.
ps nice job for xmas day I'm working so I'll take the car into the w/shop.

Frozen front suspension

by shaunthesheep » 22 Dec 2002, 23:00

First post

the sphere at the middle bottom front of the engine is the accumulator sphere, you only need to change it is when you hear more than 1 click per minute, otherwise i would be inclined to leave it alone.
as for the front raising & staying there, could be sticky linkages or a worn height correcter.
happy christmas & happy new year

Picasso / Saxo Aerial

by vanny » 22 Dec 2002, 21:13

hi folks,
the rents are about to buy a Citroen Xara Picasso, but we have hit one snag!! We borrowed one to check it fits in the garage, and it does (its smaller than the BX!), the only problem is because if its height the radio aerial hits the garage door on the way in (it bends quite a way). I think it will be okay this way but with the aerial...

ZX Radio Replacement

by VisaGTi16v » 22 Dec 2002, 22:12

First post

All new stereos will come with a metal bracket that goes around the front of the stereo. This has little tabs on, so you push it into the gap in the ZX and then bend up the tabs. This stops it moving at all, the stereo will then clip into this
as for the speakers i dont know sorry, probably oval 6*3 inches. The front ones are 13cm round.

I have a few questions about changing the radio.
I've got the plate thing from Citroen, I've removed the old radio, but the new one isn't going in that easily. There seems to be nothing to bolt the new radio to. Do I have to remove some of the trim to get to the back of the radio where I attach it to something there?
