After I'd given up for the night after spending 2 hours removing the water from the rear passenger footwell, I decided to move the car.
Everything was fine but once I'd finished, I turned the engine off whilst the lights remained on. An odd audiable warning sound started to sound - like a very slow siren (deeeeee daaaaaah deeeeee daaaaah), but the sound wasn't exactly loud, it sounded a little weak.
When I turned the ignition completely, the noise stopped. When I turned it and the lights back on, the noise returned. After somew playing about, I discovered the noise only occours if:
a) The lights are on
b) The ignition is in the position where the battery light is the only light showing.
If I go to the final stage before ignition, the noise stops. If I turn the lights off, the noise stops. The 'lights on' warning you get when you open the door continues to operate as normal and sounds different to this noise.
I've NEVER heard this noise before, is it really supposed to happen, and if so, why did it not happen before?

I reckon it might be the central locking control unit-a look on the wiring diagram confirms that the buzzer has a connection to this. Mine is doing the same and this coincided with a thorough car washing. The interior lights went haywire at the same time and these are controlled via the central locking ECU. I think this ECU is located inside the driver’s door. Playing with the connections and applying WD cured it temporarily. I hope the French managed to make a better job of the microprocessor controls in all of their nuclear power stations (there are rather a lot of them)– but then again, look what happened to Ariane 5, whoops.
