Re the 407 door seal issue and airbag warnings, after a few days of rain and testing with the hose, I gave up as water was still pooling on top of the bottom door seal and then running inside the car.

My solution was to put a few holes thru the seal with a leather hole punch tool which seems to allow the water to exit (the door seal gets squashed...

I have the BX edition and the Xantia one. Both are very good with first class descriptions of jobs. Illustrations not so good since they are only pen sketches. No photographs at all. Don't know if they have improved later editions, but the bindings are terrible. My Xantia copy is almost a pile of single sheets.

Hope this is OK with the mods. I have just seen that next months edition of Practical Classic magazine is doing a couple of pages on the Citroen 2CV. Looks good and seems to show at least 6 of the said car in various guises. They did a a buyers guide of the 2CV a couple of months ago, and it's avalible on back order.

i'd speculate that they can be done all beit a tight fit. XM seats will fit into a BX with modification, and XM seats will go into a 405 without too much of a problem. Though thats the front seats, not sure about the backs. Time to ge tthe tape measure out me thinks!

I DO NOT BELIEVE IT!
Just been to the Lock Up, a journey of , oooh about 1.2 miles - just past Bamber Bridge nick, where a (friendly) police man shouted me over to infrm me one of my back lights was out......
So that means its lasted about 8 or 9 hours.

If the bulbs are 'blowing' electrically as opposed to mechanically failing ie vibration causing the filament to break, then I would first check the alternator voltage.
It may have become unregulated and outputting too high a voltage .
Are you having to top up the battery electrolyte more often?

The Headlamps on my ZX are causing me some problems at teh moment in so much as the wiring loom has shorted twice now and i have lost first my left then my right headlamp - the current state of play is i have side lights, headlamps but not main beam.
I have removed the bulbs for the moment whilst i sort out the reason for a) the car chewing...

A (unhelpful) suggestion is to whip the front wheels of an disconect the wear sensors - tape them up.
However Im not aware that the brake sensor causes the car to actually fail to start.
Have you checked the LHM level in the tank? and does the engine turn over? _ The brake light illuminates if the parking (hand)brake is on so its usuall to see...

I finally managed to get the TZD over to France to get some consumption figures on a decently long run.
Courtesy of a late boat due to bad weather we arrived on clear empty Autoroute.
Over the first 320 miles, I got 32 MPG. I used half a litre of oil, too! Mind you we were quite heavily laden but I did keep the average speed below 100 MPH (Just )...

Was told the same thing a few weeks ago, apparently it has a lower coefficient of expansion too, supposed to improve tyre life and fuel consumption! usually costs about a fiver, have not tried it yet.

Check for rust in the rear chassis inboard of the back wheels. Take a sharp pointy, pokey thing and have a prod around the chassis and wheel arches.
Being a diesel it shouldn't have suffered at the hands of the backwards baseball cap boys.

Not from Citroen! I did just check by looking up rear window and tailgate on a couple of popular models, but there is no sign of the sticker on the parts listing.
Try 2cv Graphics by Jeff & Chris they can/have reproduced loads of obsolete badges and stickers for Citroen models. (site was very very slow when I looked, be patient).

The Cit / Total oil stcker on my ZX is badly split and on my Xant non existant. Any ideas where i can get one or two from? Hi, theres not a 4 wheel drive clubin the formal sense of the word, but there are about 18 4wd 2cv's in the UK, all built by Louis Barbour, and the owners tend to meet up now and again to get down and dirty.
Next meeting is on the weekend of 13/14 November, and will involve some green laning plus some more serious off roading in N Wales. Everyone...

Had one as hire car once when over in France with a mate. Funky little thing. Drove fine. Have seen a couple on the roads around Worcestershire both a rather loud lime green colour. I'd have one if the steering was put on the proper side. Never seen any adds in the cars mags I read for them or right hand conversion.

What a strange question, I hear you ask.
My ZX (1995) has a paint code of KQHbr; I just want to know what the colour is actually called - forest green, snot green, whatever. I occasionally see original Citroen touch-up kits at autojumbles, but they only ever give the name, not the code. Couldn't find it in Halfrauds' lists at all.

Firstly needs to be turbo diesel and go for any trim from Avantage upwards. With the Avantage you get eleccy windows at the front, eleccy sunroof, tilt steering wheel as standard.

I have a Garmin hand-held unit for use with an o.s. map when I am out in the wilds, and what it does is lock onto the satellites to give a more or less exact location- the camera ones work by being permanantly on and knowing where they, and therefore the cameras are.
They are very good, but only as good as the info thats programmed into them, and...

I currently run a Bel Speed camera radar / laser detector and find its performance lacking - I was thinking of getting a GPS unit such as the snooper.
Anyone else had a GPS unit and how do they find them?
(I know the alternative is to shave some weight off my lead right foot, but even so Blackpool is sooo littered with speed cameras its untrue)

Been looking for a Diesel AX / 106 type car to replace my ZX - however been offered a very cheap AX 1.0 Petrol (FSH, 1 owner etc etc).
Now apart from not being able to run it on cooking oil, what on earth is stopping me from going all petrol again?

i got my zx manual off ebay for £5 i think then got charged £4 for postage! Luckily it was immaculate else i would have been annoyed at only saving couple quid for a 2nd hand one. Naturally its now covered in oil :D

He'd still only get a small trade in at any used car dealer if he rolled up in a Citroen. Once again it's just like Skoda, all those rally wins and the jokes came thick and fast but who's laughing now eh! Citroen may have it's critics but you always see more horror stories involving Rovers.

What do you mean dreaded hydraulic system?
There is nothing at all complicated about it.
There is a simple way to tell if it is the hydraulics which are leaking, the LHM fluid is bright green and feels like oil. Well it is bright green if it is changed often enough, it can go yellow or orange if left for 15 years.

I have just bought a BX diesel for £200. It's going to be used to visit my wife, who's currently working in Yorkshire.

I would not buy a car off eBay unless it was near enough for me not to waste too much time and fuel going to look at and test drive it.
I do buy and sell lots of other things of less value on eBay, though, and have never been 'done'.
