207 Wont Rev past 2500rpm

Post by pausan »

Hi Guys
I am looking for some inspiration/guidance with a problem on my 2009 207 1.4 8v, valeo 34.1 injection,
the issues are it starts first time every time and idles/runs smoothly, however it will not rev past 2500 rpm, the anti pollution warning message comes up and 30 seconds after starting the engine the cooling fan cuts in, the only fault logged is p2101 motorised throttle, the fault is permanent and cannot be erased, I was told that it was an injection ecu fault so i replaced the injection ecu and matched BSI from a running vehicle, part numbers were also matching, this did not rectify fault, i have resistance tested wiring from the motorised throttle to injection ecu and all appears good, i also checked wiring from accelerator pedal to injection ecu and again all checked out, i have tried an accelerator pedal and throttle body from a friends car (matched part numbers) and still the problem persists, it was also suggested that the BSM might have water ingress so i tried the one from my friends car again matching part numbers, still problem persists, i am running out of options and to make matters worse i cannot find a wiring diagram anywhere, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your symptoms are all related to P2101: (but it won't be the anti-pollution lamp that is lit - it should be the engine management light as there is a difference).

You can find a lot of the equipment codes here on our Wiki - they are in ascending order in sections:

PSA Electrical Wiring Codes

Fault Code: P2101 - Motorised throttle motor control fault: Not characterised

Description of Fault: Detection of excess current; Fault confirmation time: 2 s. The fault will occur when the ignition is switched on and during the engine ECU sleep phase.

Conditions for Fault to clear: Switching on the ignition or during driving, if the fault is no longer detected.

Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: (The Engine Management Lamp will be lit)
  • Minimum open position of the motorised throttle housing
  • Deactivation of the adaptation of the air/petrol mixture
  • Deactivation of the taking account of the value for atmospheric pressure
  • Deactivation of the correction of the mass of air drawn in
  • Deactivation of the canister purge function
  • Deactivation of the vehicle cruise control and speed limiter
Symptoms: Lack of power (Minimum open position of the motorised throttle housing).

Suspect Areas:
  • Motorised throttle unit
  • Engine ECU
  • Electrical harness
So the engine ECU has limited engine speed and disabled the functions listed above until the fault is rectified.

As per your PM, here's some wiring info for you:

The Main Engine ECU Diagram

1320 is your Engine ECU
1261 is the Accelerator Pedal
1262 is the Motorised Throttle

I can't thank you enough for this excellent information, it will be invaluable for me going forward to locate the fault, as you say it is in fact the engine management light that is on, but also anti pollution warning comes up on the multifunction display, probably due to the car running in a downgraded mode.
Thanks again awesome service, much appreciated
