I have recent purchased a Citroen c5 2006. I would like to do the rd4 to rd45 upgrade. All the RD45 units I see online have 4 mounting screws from the front, but my RD4 only has 2. I think the dimensions are different too, the RD45 has a smaller front?? Just wondering if I am looking at the wrong rd45, or people who upgrade just deal with the cosmetic differences? These differences aside, all other functions such as reverse warnings still work? Thanks in advance for any feedback. The main feature I am trying to gain is BT hands free. I am aware of units you can plug into aux or CD stacker of RD4 but would prefer an RD45 if others are having success!EDC5 wrote: 19 Sep 2017, 15:51 I replaced my RD4 with a RD45 that I bought on ebay, the handsfree is entirely handled by the RD45 unit (over bluetooth) and no external devices are required.
I also had to replace the multifunction screen too as mine was too old to show the USB and Bluetooth menus however with your radio being the RD43 it may already have the newer screen in which case you will only need the new headunit.
Is upgrading RD43 to RD45 feasible?

Welcome Tim or Tam or TimTan
You have a MK II C5 and these are different units, as the ones in the topic you are referring to are for the MK II C5 X7 - they have completely different Head units to the MK II. These are not compatible with the MK II.
Unfortunately you will need to make use of an aftermarket device like a Yatour or similar that can utilise the CD Changer port on the RD4 Head Unit on your C5. It links to a unit that can mimic a CD Changer, allowing you to play MP3 audio files. Depending on the model, some also provide a bluetooth function that links to your mobile for streaming via the unit and passes this onto the car.
Link here for an example on the UK site of Amazon:

Re: Is upgrading RD43 to RD45 feasible?
Hi all,
i have similar problem and i don't understand situation.
Car: Citroen C3 Picasso, production end of the 2009 year.
Radio: Bosch CM RD4 N1 MP3 - 03 96 669 595 77.
In middle consol usb port not working, aux port not working. Wires are goes under the heather.
On car screen i can choose BT option but they don't work (no delete, no paring, all options unable to run).
Is it normal that Citroen put BT options to choise on screen, put usb, put aux and all are not working??
I was looking BT module in my car but without sucess, no socet to plug BT module if i get one, for exemple on ebay. I supose that i do not have parts from diagram from first side of this topic (50, 30, 20, 22, 21.... and 60??, 41??).
Diagbox 9.150 told me that BT module/BT set is not avaible/no connection.
I would like to use all factory functions and have BT with streing from orginal car interface. What can i do??
It's first Citroen in my live.
I would be very grateful for your help.

Re: Is upgrading RD43 to RD45 feasible?
Ok, i found BT module... in many forums people writes that is over passanger feet... mayby in UK version, but in Europe version it's behind the stering whell over the pedals. So i got it (96 668 279 80 Continental), but why it is not working. Electric plate looks fine, without defects.
I see one plug with wire wchich is not in socket, and i do not see any socekt, any place to plug it. Close to fuses place.
Somebody, please help

Re: Is upgrading RD43 to RD45 feasible?
Sorry, I've only just seen the post.
A bit late now, but some vehicles were fitted with the RD4 (as in your case) and this model has no built in Bluetooth. However, it was an option on order to specify a hands-free kit. This seems to be the case in your vehicle. So the Bluetooth and other functions are handled by the hands free or 'Nomad' kit and the data is routed to the RD4 and the compatible display.
Some later vehicles had an RD45 fitted, which eliminated the Hands-free module, as it had Bluetooth integrated into the Head Unit and would handle all operations.
In your case the nomad unit may have failed and so it looks like you have replaced it now.

Re: Is upgrading RD43 to RD45 feasible?
Following on from the above, I'm upgrading to an RD45 in my Berlingo Multispace, VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
Pulled the interior light\microphone section in the roof to install the microphone - brilliant, loom already there, plug straight in and done in 2 minutes.
However, for reasons as above, turns out those wires don't arrive at the back of the radio, though as far as I can tell the hands-free module lived in that area.
Does anyone know where the microphone loom might be? It's the work of a few minutes for me to extend that if it's halfway accessible.

Not sure about the Berlingo but look between the glovebox and centre console for a blue connector not going anywhere.

Re: Is upgrading RD43 to RD45 feasible?
In all cases I know of, you can't use the existing microphone - it usually goes into a ribbon cable connector and then off into the loom - so most undertaking an RD4 to RD45 or other upgrade need to include a separate microphone and wire it in directly. The microphone on an RD4 with hands free kit usually has the microphone going to the nomad unit first (or telematic unit if fitted) and then a connection from there to the RD4.shtu wrote: 19 Oct 2024, 20:10 Following on from the above, I'm upgrading to an RD45 in my Berlingo Multispace, VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

Look at my posts in this thread to see the PIN out for RD45 and the correct block for the microphone wiring to wire you own one in:

Re: Is upgrading RD43 to RD45 feasible?
I'll have a poke around, they've put the connector and wiring in the roof, logically you would expect the other end to be at least near where it needs to be. Far as I can tell, on the Berlingo that seperate module lives behind the cubbyhole below the radio.
Being Citroen they've probably decided that needs to go via the engine bay, boot and fuel tank.
Thanks for the link - I spent yesterday finding diagrams and pinouts, including those, and Doing a Spreadsheet, so I can see what needs to change. Turns out, not very much.

Re: Is upgrading RD43 to RD45 feasible?
Just make sure you know what you're looking for - and by that I mean there are different modules hidden behind the dash that do different things - There can be hands-free units and there can be a telematics unit (if you have the SOS or Citroen Assist call buttons in your vehicle), so make sure you don't attack the wrong one! Citroen Service is offline at present - so I can't provide any info on what you do or don't have at this time.

Re: Is upgrading RD43 to RD45 feasible?
I'll get the thing indoors and have a proper rummage, it's rather silly that the cable is clearly there somewhere, but can't be found. I'll order-up some thin cable anyway, it's not a major hassle for me to make a loom.
For now I've slapped the head unit in, matched the VIN, enabled the rear speakers and a couple of other things, all seems good so far.

Re: Is upgrading RD43 to RD45 feasible?
Tonight, tried uSB playback - all good - and came up with a new question.
Does the RD 45 have "Bass" and "Treble" adjustments? At the moment, th eone I have allows you to set the eq mode - Pop, Classical, etc., but not Bass or Treble. Mildly surprising.

The button with the musical notes on it (assuming you have one) should cycle through balance, bass, treble etc.shtu wrote: 21 Oct 2024, 18:40 Does the RD 45 have "Bass" and "Treble" adjustments?
