DS3 2012 e-hdi drive belt snapped

Unread post by sixfoottwo »

Hi,

My drive belt snapped on the way home and I've checked the pulleys and the tensioner (the one you see when you open the bonnet) and they all seem ok, is there another hidden tensioner on this car? heard there might be two if it has start/stop (eco mode/stat/stop has never worked)

Any ideas? I've got a belt (Dayco1020) but can't seem to fit it!

Thanks.

Anyone?

Do all Ds3 1.6 e-hdi's even have start/stop as standard?

No they don't all have Stop Start as standard, and as far as fitting the belt goes, yes, you will have tensioners depending on your system, so best get mechanic to do it with appropriate knowledge. There can be 2 dynamic tensioner rollers, so has to be fitted correctly.

Ok thanks for that.

How do you know it has start/stop then? I was under the impression the e-hdi had them as standard. It has a Eco button and it has lit up green on the dash (not much) in the past, guessing it has it if thats the case?

I can tell you for sure if you have it from your VIN (please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff) if you want to know.

Ok, so confirmed you have Stop & Start system and a reversible alternator, with dynamic tensioner rollers.

You need special tools (Dynamic tensioner compression levers and rollers) to fit the new belt correctly. So best left to a competent mechanic to install as there are special procedures and an order to fitting it.

Thanks for that as I suspected but it's never really worked!

Bit of a bummer regards fitting as I've bought a belt from eurocarparts thinking it would be a 5minute job like on youtube! never mind will look at getting a few quotes.

Thanks again.

Oh I forget to ask, do you know the part numbers for the two tensioners? I'll be looking to replace these with the belt as they advise you to do that I believe.

I take it is part 8 and 9 in the diagram below?
