Anti pollution fault

Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen
First of all Merry Christmas to everyone I hope its a safe Chrismas for you all and a better New year.

So here goes
This is the second time this has happened to me over a two week period.

Car running smooth and no loss of power and then the car engine just cuts out without warning.
The car will restart after a few seconds but then comes up with the eml and the message above, no loss of power and engine pulls like a train.
One thing I did notice though on a previous thread I have had an issue since owning the car when setting off from junctions etc (possible clutch switch /anti stall etc) with the car trying to stall.
With the eml light on this now appears to be a lot better as though it disables certain functions including the clutch switch.
While taking the photograph above I noticed after 4 restarts the eml went out and I had no anti pollution message on screen.
This appears to happen when the fuel level is low but no fuel light on.
I have checked the fluid (anti pollution) and I have around 3/4 litre left.
I would be grateful if someone could tell me if its pat fluid or Eolys used in my car.

You'll need to get scanned to see what fault is recorded. Anti pollution is just generic engine fault. Total cut outs when just cruising are unusual, however....

There are many fault codes that have backup modes Steve, which will range from power limitations, to cutting of EGR functions, cruise control, regeneration and the like. Very important to get the codes - or you can end up making unnecessary measures / repairs / replacements.

Ignore the last one, as it seems to be a 'standard' fault with HDi engines on Citroens (even if there is nothing wrong with the car).

Ok, so here are the fault descriptors. Ignore P1351.

I would focus on faults P0336 and P0337 as these both relate to the engine speed sensor (crank sensor). SO i would replace that first and then clear the faults, go for a drive and then see if any of those return. I suggest you forget ECP for a replacement sensor as they are known to ship dud parts.

Fault Code: P0088 Description of Fault: High pressure fuel regulation: The measured rail pressure is too high in relation to the set point. The ECU detects a difference of 180 bars to 250 bars for 3 to 6 seconds between the rail pressure set point and the measured rail pressure. Conditions for Fault to clear: Driving for 5 minutes with several full load accelerations for 10 seconds Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: Deactivation of processing of the accelerometry; Deactivation of the accelerometry strategies; Deactivation of the detection of loop difference on the fuel flow rate regulator; Deactivation of the injector flow rate correction strategy. Symptoms: Jerking/stalling, Unwanted acceleration, Noise, Smoke from the exhaust, Lack of power, Starting problem. Suspect Areas: Engine ECU (Software not up to date), Poor fuel or polluted fuel (petrol, deposit, etc.), Problem on the fuel low or high-speed circuit (hose, tank, diesel fuel filter, etc.), Fuel injectors, Engine fuse box, Electrical harness, Connectors, high pressure fuel pump, Fuel high pressure sensor

Fault Code: P0336 Description of Fault: Engine speed signal: Absence of signal under starter. Absence of signal from the engine speed sensor on starting Conditions for Fault to clear: Under starter Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: None Symptoms: Starting problem. Suspect Areas: Engine speed sensor, Engine speed sensor target, Electrical harness, Connections

Fault Code: P0337 Engine speed signal: Signal not coherent Description of Fault:The number of teeth seen on the target of the engine speed sensor is too low on 1 engine rev. The fault is forwarded after 2 engine revolutions. Conditions for Fault to clear: Under starter Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: None Symptoms: Starting problem, Jerking/stalling. Suspect Areas: Engine speed sensor target, Engine speed sensor, Electrical harness, Connector

If you havent done so already i would be sticking a new fuel filter in this too, Cutting out under acceleration then restarting ok is classic symptoms of a partially clogged fuel filter.

A new Bosch filter was fitted on the very day it went wrong and I am sorry to say it made no difference at all

Thanks for that Steve - so here is the part in question:

Part 1920GJ, item (4), £61.66 inc. VAT for the OEM one from Citroen. No guarantees of course this will resolve the issue, but 2 of the fault codes do point to this as a possible suspect.

Just avoid getting one from a ECP - these just add to the stress when they send duff parts out as attested to by many here if not getting an OEM part. Make sure it is a quality branded part
