Citroen C4 Grand Picasso (2013)

Post by thatguysc »

Morning all,

I'm looking for some advice because I am getting conflicting information from garages.

My car failed it's MOT the other day with a few issues which have no been resolved. However, it failed on the "positioning lights" not working on both sides at the front of the car.

Can someone please explain to me where these positioning lights are?

Thanks in advance

For reference it looks like this Image

Well it should be down to the MOT people to tell you which ones and point them out to you as their terminology is not always correct.

Headlamps - obvious enough if these are working for Low and high beam, or not and the same for the DRLs, Fog Lamps and sidelights.

The only exception is if you have Xenon Directional Headlamps - but if these are not working bulb-wise it will still be obvious. They only check that the bulbs are working and that the beam pattern is correct, not the directional function - and you can temporarily turn this feature off for the MOT anyway if you have these fitted, should you wish.

So if you think ALL the lamps and bulbs are working, then you need to go back and get them to explain - you have paid for a test and are entitled to know what they have found a problem with.

If your LED DRLS are not working then this will likely be a fail as they were required on cars from about 2011 on I think.

The DRLs I have highlighted in Yellow and marked in Red:

They are what used to be called parking lights or sidelights.
It looks as though those are part of the headlight assembly, assuming that the lights below the DRLs are foglights.

Check your handbook for the fuses as it is unlikely that both will fail at once although that can't be ruled out. Do the tail lights work - these should be on at the same time.

They could be easy to change or very awkward. C5 ones weren't too bad but the rest were a bit of a nightmare.

Thanks for the replies.

So I have done a full scan of all the lights and the only ones that do nothing are the ones highlighted in the image below

but on further inspection under the bonnet, these lights are attached to plastic clips and have no cables running into them at all

It might help if you pop your VIN up here (it will be masked on submission) and then I can see the exact lights you are referring to once we have the exact model. However if this the Mark I C4 Picasso 2013, then the side lights shown use H6W-6 W bulbs:

These things:
H6W6 W.PNG
The power for these may be supplied by the lamp housing itself like on the rears, so you won't necessarily see any wiring. The plastic holder requires a quarter turn anti-clockwise to remove.

It's all in the manual.

Thank you for the help.

Yes you're dead right. I can now see exactly what you mean by the housing providing power.

I have replaced both bulbs with no luck. The contacts look pretty clean.
Is there a fuse for these? I did have a look in the manual but nothing stands out for these bulbs.

Sorry and I appreciate all the help offered

What it does say in the manual that when LED lamps are fitted (which they are are, above the fog lights) the filament bulbs for the side lamps in the front lamp units are not used

Ok, so there is your answer then - take that back to the bloke who did the MOT and show him - and they should not charge you anything further than what you have paid and make sure that they correct the earlier MOT comments on the failure - otherwise it will be recorded as such on the MOT records for all to see. It's not your fault the bloke didn't do his homework properly.

If he doesn't sort it - report the centre / make a complaint.
