Instrument cluster

Post by Steveo »

Hello everyone
I hope everyone is well and enjoying this weather(although you can't really go anywhere)

Anyway to the question
I have noticed on some Citroen c5s instrument pack the digital speedohmeter is in white and the other information is in orange.
It may not mean anything to some people but I like to know the different options available and how it is achieved
Thank you
Regards
Steve

If you’re talking about the LCD screen in the instrument panel that can be configured to show the speed, then it’s because there are different LCDs fitted depending on option.

The vehicles with full telematics systems are fitted with colour displays on the instrument panel LCD as they can show navigation directions. So for example the next turning off at a roundabout or the correct lane to get in. These need to be shown in colour as it would be difficult to distinguish info with a limited colour range.

Mine has all sorts of colours which is handy when you need to keep eyes front for multi exit roundabouts which helps you quickly identify the turning with a quick glance at the panel as it keeps all the other info out the way and just gives you what you need to know. Also, if you are navigating, it also brings up the streets and roads so that is very useful when you need to see what road you are on at any time without looking at the full map on the dash display.

Marc does this mean with the right instrument pack and the use of diag box this can be easily converted? I am curious because I know where there is such a instrument pack.
(you may have noticed I like my little gadgets lol)
Regards.

Err.... not really Steve. If I told you there were about 32 versions of these available up until July 2010 alone, you'll get the picture. Each of these are in colour or monochrome and then are different for the various engine types, Manual / Auto transmission, Stop / Start etc. etc. They changed with different build dates and to facilitate subtle changes.

If you could find the PSA part number of the one, or the VIN of the vehicle it came off, I could probably tell you if it was compatible.

Just be aware if you swap a panel in that has a higher milage than yours your car will permanently inherit the higher milage.
This would happen the second you plug it in even if you take it back out again.

That may not be a problem, mines is a manual but you can see the LCD display has all the auto box gear positions on it.
If the milage is lower then you have nothing to loose by trying it? Just remember if you do try it the instrument panel will inherit your higher milage.

Good morning all.
Yesterday I had a good day at my favourite scrap yard.
I managed to source some silver roof rails to replace my black ones and I purchased an instrument pack out of a top of the range C5 estate.
The instrument pack has only 31000 miles on it and I am hoping with a little guidence to fit this to my C5.
I am hoping it will give me the coloured display in the centre of the speedohmeter display
I am aware it will revert back to my original mileage but I would like to know if the donor vehicles Vin number is stored in the instrument pack and if the answer is yes, can diagbox be used to change the Vin to my own?

I managed to get a few spares and upgrades for my car including chrome trims and door cards with the blinds fitted in the rear
The cars grey leather seats were iimmaculate when I left the car but being electrically operated I decided not to purchase them at £120 including vat.

I don't believe the VIN is programmed in the instrument panel, cant think of any Citroen (not including other manufacturers rebadged as a Citroen) that has the VIN in the instrument panel.

A scrapyard charging VAT? that's a first, don't think ive ever even had a receipt from a scrappy

I was, years ago, for a driveshaft for my GS. Discovered later that there was no VAT on second hand goods.

Hi
Thank you for the advice I will let you know when I fit the cluster as for the vat here's what goole says on vat on secondhand spares

Do you have to pay VAT on second hand car parts?
If the company is VAT registered they have to charge for it as thet item was part of thier stock, it doesn't matter if it was vat'd before or not, all stock sales will have it added. if they bought it in, they have to account for it leaving. If I sell a second hand part then i charge VAT on it.

Steve, have a look at the later posts on this thread for other info relating to the instrument panel:

viewtopic.php?t=65485

The VIN is NOT coded in the Instrument Panel ECU, but as I mentioned in the other thread, options will need to be coded correctly for your specific vehicle.

I would suggest that it is important you get the right one first of all as these changed from build date and are different for the transmission and engines fitted. That's before the configuration is done for the other options.

As for mileage - it will take on the higher of the 2 - either your current mileage or the mileage from the speedo you have bought.
